Why does a four year old want a skateboard? What four year old is capable of the balance necessary to use one, much less, use one safely?

This does not sound like a good idea to me. I would make him (yes, the four year old) do some research on the mechanical nature of the skateboard to better understand the question raised, "what kind?"  If he cannot answer this question, then he is not old or mature enough to handle this activity.

Buying a generic bike and a generic skateboard are two completely different things, quality-wise.

Your kid's got good taste, but he does know it's only a two-seater, doesn't he?
