(Huffington Post)   "Parenthood" actor Craig T. Nelson blasts NBC as being "completely out of it." Adding that he should know because, "I've been on food stamps and welfare -- did anyone help me out? NO"   (huffingtonpost.com) divider line 63

Ok, apparently I'm the only one brave enough to say it...

In a TV lineup filled with tired reality shows and the same cop/investigative drama in a dozen iterations, Parenthood is, hands down, the best hour-long drama on network TV today. Undeniably well written, well acted, and compelling.

I'm pretty confident that I'm not the only one here who feels that way, although I may be the only one with enough cojones to turn in my man card and admit it.

steve_wmn: Dax Shepard had the only interesting character in the show, playing the younger brother that never grew up created by Keanu Reeves.

I'm pretty sure Dax's character is based on Tom Hulce's movie character. I could be wrong but I am fairly certain about that.

non-racer X: Slow To Return: I would have believed "Coach" was still on the air before I believed "Parenthood" was still on the air.

/Also, something about Lea Thompson in All The Right Moves.

I will always love Craig T. Nelson, just because he was a sex monster in Flesh Gordon, the porno ripoff of Flash Gordon.

It's a farking TV show for crying out loud.  It's not the answer to life's strife and woes.

Christ I hate celebrities

Co-sign.

It really is a great show. Been a fan of Katims since FNL.

Hasn't anybody noticed that every episode has a happy ending? Every Braverman eventually gets what they want (not what they deserve). I gave up on it after Max won the election for student council president.

One Love: Silly Craig. Don't you know NBC is a democrat station and your tv show is aimed at republicans? Obviously it always comes down to politics (his subtext whenever he's crying about something).

Come again?  There's not much Republicanism on Parenthood beyond the underlying Family Values mantra.  Single mom?  Two interracial relationships, one interracial marriage?  Kids out of wedlock?  Former Berkeley hippies?  The political activism for the Democratic candidate for Council?  Recording studio that embraces the history of San Francisco music?  Adopting the poor Hispanic kid?  This is not the Sarah Palin hour.

/Modern Family and Raising Hope kill parenthood in the balls.

This

/Wife DVRs Parenthood.  I watch because, well, marriage.

You could very well be right.  Reviewing my own weekly viewing habits the only hour long dramas I watch consistently are Person Of Interest and Grimm.  On Wednesdays I'll watch the ABC sitcom line up.  The rest of the week I do something else.  I should really sign up for a gym membership and spend 4 or 5 nights a week at the gym.

I don't know about every hour having a happy ending (getting cancer isn't a happy ending).   But, by the end of the season she is "cancer free" and on a beach in Hawaii with her husband, so, they do end up being happy.

Max winning student council president didn't bother me as much as the adopted kid that was not getting along with the mom at all, all of a sudden in a week did a 180 and was portrayed as being "super cool" with his "new mom".  You can't portray a kid as being that "troubled" and then everything is awesome in a week.   Reminded me of the Jimmy Smitts season on Dexter, where I feel they got to writing the 12th episode and went "Oh crap, we have to tie everything up", and it got really really sloppy.   I know they are the perennial "bubble show", so, to an extent they just wanted everyone in a "good spot" at the end of the season, but, that seemed forced.
