The same thing they'll do when you can 3D print anything else you want in seconds at home. Sell the pattern/recipe.

I still have a huge box of baseball cards from the 80s somewhere.  I was sure at 10 years-old that one day I would be rich off of my set of 4 Roger Clemens rookie cards.

Let me get this right. Sneaker companies are owned by white guys, who make yellow kids make shoes that make black people go nuts. Is that about it?
The yellow kids work in sweatshops, for peanuts to earn enough to buy some rice and some chicken.
The black guys beg, borrow, steal, or work in crappy jobs just to earn enough for a pair of "Magic Shoes" endorsed by a black sneaker pimp.
The white guys make millions.

That about sum it up?

And shoes aren't racist, are they?

Upper-middle class white guys work desk jobs to buy boats.  That's not any less of a waste of money than working at McDonald's to buy shoes.

I think fashion has always been understood to overvalue things viewed as "hot".

Everybody expect these will come down when tey become unpopular.

Yeah.

But fashion items always do this.  Nobody expects the hot shoes from last year to be hot two years later.

It's a long hard road before you sell.

I don't understand, either. Do all these teenage hottie dudes have a foot fetish? Are they going to turn 40 with an urge to suck their partners' toes?

Because, otherwise .... damn. They're shoes. They should be really comfortable; warm in cold weather; possibly not ugly; and that's that.

THIS RIGHT HERE

Sneakerheads piss me off to no end because they could care less about BttF or Paranorman (as in the article), but will buy a shoe cause "IT LOOKS MAD SICK YO" so the actual fans of themed shoes and people who would actually WEAR them never end up with them.

I'm just glad Chuck Taylors arn't cool so that I can get my DC Comics Chuck's in peace.

Definition of a boat: A hole in the water you pour money into.

Last year alone - not counting the actual boat payments - I am pretty sure I dropped a couple grand on operating costs, accessories, etc...

No, it's true.. You wouldn't believe what a $5 pair of worn shoes can fetch..
