mysticcat: In other news, Blake Geoffrion is retiring today (update: may retire), months after he sustained a skull fracture in an AHL game.  He is 25 years old.  That's why this cheap shot shiat needs to go.

http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/9044951/blake-geoffrion-25-mulling -r etirement-skull-fracture

While I appreciate the sentiment, the actual hit was a beautifully-executed piece of body checking, and not at all the kind of thing Perry got up to when he decided "Welp, I'm already this far in, I might as go for it.  And, while I'm here, I might as well leave a mark."

What happened to Blake is really unfortunate, but it was a by-product of playing high-speed pro hockey, not a by-product of playing pro-hockey against players with no respect for others' future health. A good breakdown of what happened, medically, here (by Jo Innes of Puck That Hurts). Now, whether better equipment and/or a cage might've helped reduce the risk of injury, well, that's another discussion I'd be happy to weigh in on the pro-safety side of.

Finally, w.r.t. to the hit at hand, I don't think Perry tried to pick Zucker's head, but he didn't try not to, which, in my opinion, is a bigger problem.

Wasn't he just saying this exact same thing about Julien & the Bruins? :)

If Ducks go 4-0 or 3-1 in these 4 games I expect Perry to be gone. 2-2 is iffy but if they go 1-3 you'll see an extension very quickly.

FTNHLRB:  48.1 Illegal Check to the Head - A hit resulting in contact with an opponent's head where the head is targeted and the principal point of contact is not permitted. However, in determining whether such a hit should have been permitted, the circumstances of the hit, including whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously with the hit or the head contact on an otherwise legal body check was avoidable, can be considered.

If only the NFL considered the same thing.

Goddamn it.

//I agree, he should be suspended

Well, their next 4 games are @ Dallas, @ St. Louis and then home vs San Jose and Chicago. Chicago is the only game of the 4 that I would call a likely loss so you may be right on that.

/FYI, none of those games are back-to-back.
//All have 1 day off in between.

He's right. Everyone knows what a bunch of floppers the Habs are... Oh, you mean, Milbury. He's only interesting when he's taking s shoe to a Ranger's fan. : )

But seriously, he's right. Bruins are their own worst enemy right now and it's useless to whine about flopping and bad calls, etc. Bruins need to tighten up their game, grind it out and play a full 60 minutes. That's what they haven't been doing as of late.

Also, Kelly out indefinitely with a broken tibia... That sucks.

Pentaxian: I'm absolutely not an NHL fan at all so this may be totally off the wall. What about suspending, particularly for egregious penalties, the offending player for the playoffs and not the regular season? You get a five game suspension in the middle of the year and how much effect is it going to have on the team's season. But hold that suspension until the playoffs it's really going to hurt the team. You might get coaches discouraging dirty play.

Just throwing that out there. Remember when you are tearing this apart that I don't know very much about hockey, so be gentle.

A five game suspension during any point in the season is going to hurt your team.  That's five games that your team may drop as a result of the player not being there, especially if your a points producer such as Corey Perry is. Those five games could be 10 points in the standings.  That could be the difference in making the post season or getting an early start on your golf game.

Don't know why some people say Perry has been bad for their fantasy pool. Guy has 24 points in 25 games. I'll take a point a game player anyday...matter of fact I did, when I took him with my second pick in my group's fantasy draft this year (behind Karlsson and in front of Kopitar).

Damn. I didn't know he was related to Howie Morenz, who had his career (and life) cut short by an ugly hockey injury.

Because in matchup leagues, being absent on the score sheet for 4 weeks as a #1 pick is inexcusable. Troy brouwer picked up more goals in a week then Perry had all season.

That's what I don't understand: when they put their minds to it, the Bruins seem unstoppable.
