Corey Perry could score 50 goals in every season for the rest of his career, yet I would still remember him more for his douchetastic play on the ice.

Including, picking a fight with Pavel Datysuk of all people...and Datysuk more than held his own which was hilarious.

Not a dirty play at all, that guy should keep his head up

We need to start looking for nominations to replace Pronger on the flowchart, since he's all-but-literally-retired.

Perry was my 1st round pick.  Giant mistake. Done nothing the first half, is going to be suspended for the second.

(Other big mistake? Taking Kipper in the 5th, Jesus he's been horrid)

Still nothing better than the Brian Campbell hit on R.J. Umberger. Totally clean and legal. Open ice hitting is an art form.

So when is the lawsuit coming from former NHLers who are just now realizing that banging your head into things is bad for you?

Puck was loooong gone. He might as well have just finished his check during the next game they play.

Corey Perry with a gutless cheap shot?  That's about as unusual as a sunrise.

They showed this clip in Pittsburgh last night during the Pens/Bruins game. This was Claude Juliens reaction.

I had just taken a sip of beer when Claude made that face last night... Thanks, Claude.

I'm absolutely not an NHL fan at all so this may be totally off the wall. What about suspending, particularly for egregious penalties, the offending player for the playoffs and not the regular season? You get a five game suspension in the middle of the year and how much effect is it going to have on the team's season. But hold that suspension until the playoffs it's really going to hurt the team. You might get coaches discouraging dirty play.

Just throwing that out there. Remember when you are tearing this apart that I don't know very much about hockey, so be gentle.

Oh, and, yeah that was a cheap shot to the head... Send Perry packing for a long time. That's pretty much a text book example of what the League us trying to get rid off.

Let's see what the geniuses in charge of discipline do, though.

Un-F'n-Believable. I get they are tired from 3 games in 4 days against good teams but come one. You got a 2 goal lead with 6 min left to go. You gotta walk away with a win there.

2013-03-13 12:40:26 PM
Yes, Zucker shouldn't be admiring his passes like that, but it was late and it was predominately a blow to the head.  Suspension seems fair.  Since it's a short season I'd say 2-3 games.

Absolutely... Sloppy play. Turnovers in the defensive zone. Inability to get the puck out of their own end.

They gave Pittsburgh way too many chances to get back into this game, and while Khoudobin was playing well, you can't expect him to save all of those with no defensive help.

It'll be interesting to see what Charelli does with all that cap space...

2013-03-13 12:46:53 PM
The Wild are starting to play up to their potential, now they have targets on their backs.  We need to pick up an enforcer like Boogey again.  farking cheap shot.

2013-03-13 12:49:31 PM
Perry's scheduled for a phone chat so 5 games or less. And since the league says that if prior suspension was not within 18 months he won't get the repeat offender treatement.

Knowing him he'll probably trade Johnny Boychuck away for some suck-bag (See trades: Kaberle, Tomas...)

Well, I hope not... I'd say he's made more good trades than bad trades, though.

He has, but that one comes to mind foremost.

The Recchi trade was probably the biggest plus going the other way. Although the Bruins also picked up Steve Montador at that trade deadline...

Blindside late hit to the head, can't tell if his shoulder elevated before or after contact... 3-4 games I'm guessing. Just a dumb move.

Something like this should get 50 games.

There's no need to hit anybody at all after they've released the puck

Just make the length of the suspension match the time the player is out injured (maybe plus a couple of games for good measure). Including the current game. Injury player can't return to the ice, then can his assailant.  Players would start thinking twice about this sort of thing then, and the rest of us could get back to watching the game.

I was going to go with Jordan Tootoo for the Avery replacement.  Years of watching his 'late and/or cheap hit and then skate to the bench when challenged' routine has made me hate him far more than Avery.  The fact he playing for Detroit now is perfect after watching years of Draper, Maltby, etc do the same crap.

In other news, Blake Geoffrion is retiring today (update: may retire), months after he sustained a skull fracture in an AHL game.  He is 25 years old.  That's why this cheap shot shiat needs to go.

Shanaban cited Ovechkin's prior (which was more than 18mo previous) on his last suspension.  But he's got some kind of personal vendetta against the Capitals.

MugzyBrown: There's no need to hit anybody at all after they've released the puck

Well, you can't say that without a clarifier...as a near-instantaneuous puck gone/hit is allowed, but this was ridiculous.

Very late, blindside hit, and head targeted (that could be debated due to Zucker's size)...Perry's comments about how he was "already committted to the hit" are absolutely ridiculous.

Won't work. Superstar injures a nobody. Nobody's team keeps the nobody on the IR for an extended period, to rob their rival of their superstar, making a significant dent in the standings.

That achieves the same thing the CBA was designed for, a game that nobody can win and anybody can lose.  just saying...
