Ugh what a terrible website. And it's not even comparing Cardinals, it's comparing the average American Catholic to papal candidates.

Have you ever noticed that a bunch of celibate octogenarian white guys in Europe are different from a diverse mass of people in the US? Weird.

Well if you have a doctorate in theology, WTF else are you gonna do?

What? A BuzzFeed link and no Android Phone Advertisement in the article?

Newsflash: 100% of Cardinals are not women.

I hate being "that guy" but those commercials were so outrageously racist...

American Catholics are -on the whole- fairly moderate, but American church leaders (cardinals, bishops, etc) are extremely conservative.

European Catholics are very liberal, but their leadership is moderate.

Yes, but they can do it in Latin.

Cardinals. Second in the Central.

Wow, that is a shiatty chart.

Hey, Buzzfeed: comparing two very different groups of people and observing that they are very different in almost every way isn't particularly smart or insightful, even when you do it with a chart. It's not funnier, either.

American Cardinals aren't polite enough to give the altar boys a reacharound?

It's funny, before all this came to light, my brother and friends used to always think the alter boys were gay.

Apparently, that's not uncommon here. We have a Muslim at our church who decided to join because all the Muslim communities are too conservative (I'm in Los Angeles, btw, it was a bit interesting to hear that).

How in the hell did the U.S. go from Woodstock to being one of the most conservative countries on the planet?? Oh right. . .Baby Boomers wanting to get into heaven. ..*sigh*

American Catholics, it might be time to accept that you're not really Catholics.

As long as they don't get to smoke pot I fine with it.

I want them suffering in agony as God intended.

I'm only a Millennial, so I can't tell you first hand ... but I feel the main reason American Liberalism is so high is because when you shove so many people, languages, accents, customs, cultures into one area, people learn to be more tolerant. When I grew up in a small Midwestern town that was literally 99% white Christians, it was easy to scape goat those you didn't know or understand. Unlike most folks from my hometown I decided to leave and explore the world a bit. During my travels, at almost every place I went, I had people tell me I was one of the most conservative people they knew.

... Fast-forward 10 years ...

All my old buddies and I are are sitting at the local bar, when one of them speaks up and says "HellRaisingHoosier, you're one of the biggest liberals I've ever met." and all my other friends nodded in agreement.

So now I don't know what way I am. I'm definitely more liberals from traveling, exploring, learning and experiencing more, but some of those conservative values I grew up with just won't un-stick. If someone asks I just say "middle of the road" and leave it at that.

I'm not sure what race they are supposed to be racist against.  They mimic an American subculture.
