I thought Greenland was controlled by Denmark. Greenland is like their Alaska.

Hey, subby, maybe you could have worked in something about how Americans are fat.

(I presume subby is a seal clubber)

Greenlandic can't be right.

Should work the same way as Poland, since they are both -land. Residents of Greenland are Greens. Things from Greenland are Greenish.

I thought so too but according to the article they are semi-autonomous and voted for full independence in 2008.  Oddly enough it doesn't say if they received it or not.

The politics of Greenland are actually very relevant to your life, because Greenland has one of the world's largest remaining oil reserves. An independent Greenland is unlikely to pay attention to enacting environmental regulations or sign on to Kyoto (or whatever inevitable greenhouse-reduction treaty must be passed if we hope to preserve human civilization as we know it); the indigenous people are fed up with eating walrus and are increasingly committed to oil as their ticket to the big time. Up to 120 billion barrels of oil poses a significant threat to attempts to stop the worst effects of global warming. So, yeah, count me in as one of those 31.

FTFA:

Siumut, Greenlandic for Forward or Progressive, and Kleist's Inuit Ataqatigiit or Community of the People Party have generally similar platforms. Both advocate socialism and independence from Denmark.

Fark off, we are the People's Greenland Front.  No, wait, we are the Greenland People's Party.

I read that as "Slutmut Party". That would be more interesting.

I didn't know they were an independent country. I thought they were a territory of Denmark or Iceland.

I, for one, welcome our new masters of the UU, which probably will never be called the Double U.

Lost Thought 00: I didn't know they were an independent country. I thought they were a territory of Denmark or Iceland.

They're best described as "in transition toward independence," while Denmark looks after the smaller details until they also become attended to by the Greenland government.

Also, Denmark tends to be rather proactive about illegal drugs entering Greenland, since they can bring a stronger and more savvy enforcement presence, and because most of the drugs are arriving from Denmark. :(

I know a man whose father was from Iceland and whose mother was from Cuba. And since you already know the punchline to this joke, I'm not going to bother finishing it.
