seadoo2006: kiwimoogle84: Uh, no. Just, no. You're forgetting- that when ALL claims are paid through the gov and/or by the hospital, (basically run like Kaiser- not a bad system but it only works because it's a small percentage of the hospital systems) there's no more intermediaries. There's no more health insurance companies. MY ENTIRE JOB FIELD of a decade will be up in smoke. Millions of jobs lost. MILLIONS. Meanwhile fifteen ladies in a DC office monitor the hospital AR/AP and DC will say their economy is thriving.

When there's no insurance to bill or to verify, no financial agreements to be made, no coders, no claims examiners, no claims adjusters, no customer service people for patients to call.... That would be a huge blow to the economy. I'd be reduced to returning to school to learn a completely different trade in order to stay alive. Either that or just go on welfare like the government is actively trying to get me to do.

So, wait, you just admitted that your entire field of business is based on bureaucratic inefficiencies and you want me to feel sorry for you because the government is actually 10x more efficient than private insurance? LOL ...

Inefficiencies? Really. Inefficiencies. So you're saying that because we can reduce the number of salaries in order to get it all done, it's inefficient? What ever happened to job creation? Or job security? Hell, I know more about the entire insurance system than 90% of the people who work in government paid healthcare. I'm practically irreplaceable with what I know. So go ahead and tell me how reducing our healthcare system to one that will lay off a million workers in favor of a system run like the DMV will be better? Fewer salaries paid, sure. But not more efficient.

I'm not saying it's a perfect system, but it's as it should be- lots of options. Not to mention, do you know how much doctors and hospitals get paid on government claims? Pennies on the ten dollars. I paid Medicare claims for a while. A hospital bills 24,000 for a surgery. We send them payment of $800. The hospitals and doctors eat so much of every single claim. At least hospitals are paid like they should be when you bill a standard HMO or PPO through an insurance company. It's expensive to keep a hospital running. Believe me.

seadoo2006: Thunderpipes: Government controlled health care will also make doctor supply dry up, worse than it already is. First thing government does, is reduce payments to doctors. Then the incentive for 8 years of school and hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical school is gone. Why do all that, to make 80k a year when you can just be a school teacher?

Funny ... I was just thinking how many doctors became school teachers in Canada, England, France, Spain, Ireland, Belgium, Italy, Austria, Germany, Poland, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Japan, and Australia ... man, they must have a HUGE doctor shortage, huh?  People have to be dying on the streets as well because of so few doctors not being able to make a decent living ... oh wait, you mean that doesn't happen ... and only in America do we throw people out of hospitals? Oh damn ...

Joe Blowme: seadoo2006: Thunderpipes: The article I posted is a crunchy article as well, but makes my point.

Fair share according to liberals is pay 100% of the bills for anybody who votes Democrat. Democrats should pay no taxes whatsoever, because it is fair, in their minds. Only evil people work, and must be punished.

Funny, because with the tax I paid last year, I could've bought myself a pretty nice new car.  I'm liberal ... I think my taxes are too low .. so, uh, wtf are you on about?

You do know you can choose to pay more if you really think that, but we know you wont because your faux rage is just that, faux.

I happily pay 2% more this year for SS ... should've been more than that, but oh well, GOP grandstanding will never see that happening any time in the near future.

Everyone is, but you were crying that you dont pay enough but are just lying because if you really felt that way you would be paying more by checking the box and writing that check.... so we can all see you are full of shiat. Put your money where your mouth is and pay your fair share damn it.

I was stupid once too, I got better. Those countries are all small, the ones that are not are experiencing problems. They also collect taxes from a much broader base than we do.

Of course you are "happy" to pay more taxes. Every liberal is on this board, until it is time to, you know, actually pay taxes. If you were so gung ho to pay taxes, you would actually elect people who would broaden the tax base.

And where do we throw people out of hospitals? Our poor receive better medical care than the rich in most nations. It is free. How often do people go to Canada for surgery? Takes something like 6 months up there to get your knee fixed, takes 6 weeks here. Screw that. I have to get a plate taken out of my ankle. They are scheduling 5 weeks out. In Canada that would mean I miss another summer of running.

When our lawmakers make it so, I will ... just like you.  So, while you grumble all the way to the post office to file that return, I'll just have another deduction out of my checking account.  Again, cry about it.  Jeeze, nobody in the 1950s thought the 92% marginal tax rate was some communist plot to steal your monies ... it was expected from everyone that was wealthy to support the society we live in.  Hell, even McCarthy, that red-faced blow hole didn't even take time to call a 92% marginal rate communist while he named just about everything else under the sun as a sign the Ruskies were coming.

Thunderpipes: Lots of words.

Actually, the original scope of my remarks was far too narrow. I should have used the term "ideologically predicated predictions". Of course, even pragmatic, historically based attempts to predict the economic future have a dismal record of success.
This is because economics is not a "hard science" , if, indeed, it is a science at all. An economy is not a machine, wherein pulling lever "A" will predictably yield result "B" - and it never has been. Further distorting this inherent difficulty with rigid ideological paradigms only makes it worse.
In the early days of the Roosevelt administration, the exact same ideologues that are around today were predicting the exact same thing they are predicting now - an endless downward spiral into utter economic ruin. Instead, we recovered from the Great Depression and entered the greatest period of ecomonic expansion ever known.
You predictions are worth precisely as much as those issuing from the mouth of the most didactic Marxist imaginable.
But hey - you just get on with your bad self - and don't ever change.

Yes. Absolutely. Why should someone get crap for free just because they don't feel like working for it? I know of people who rode out unemployment and turned down jobs just because they didn't feel like working. Meanwhile I am breaking my back trying just to survive. I just want to go to work and come home and earn my paychecks. But I instead get to pay for low-income people to get CELL PHONES for FREE! YAY! You made a previous comment regarding not feeling sorry for my job field disappearing. Well not everyone can be rich, dude. Glad you can afford those extra taxes. I make a decent living and I'm still scraping by, because you don't know my life circumstances nor what I'm paying for/dealing with.

I am absolutely for a welfare system that requires recipients to work part time for the state picking up garbage or working in a homeless shelter in order to receive their pay. I'm absolutely for a welfare system that requires female applicants to go on mandatory birth control.

And also, not all conservatives are all 'MERICA! GUNS AND MILITARY AND PIE! I want every single troop withdrawn from overseas like Obama promised to do. Instead he pulled them out of one place and sent them other places. Not what we bargained for. I don't think we should be sticking our nose in ANY overseas business, nor sending other countries aid when we can't even pay our bills.

Don't expect any help from Congress or SCOTUS. They have been full of self-aggrandizing farktards for quite a while.

We will continue to lose our liberty in the name of security and will continue to lose our economy to organized greed and corruption; it's the American Way.

Not even close to being rich, I'd say you need to be north of that $200k line, which sadly, I'm not even close to ... However, I'm solidly middle class, top 20% income ... but I live in Ohio, pay next to nothing in rent, have only a small amount of student loan debt, have a live-in GF that works, and we don't have kids.  With what I make a year, I could barely afford the rent for a 2 bedroom apartment in NYC, but see, life is about decisions.  Like when you have a kid, you're going to be poor unless you rob a bank.

But hey, don't tax the rich, I don't care ... all you're going to do is butt fark the middle class, you know, the one we're all in because only 2/100 of us are pulling home a $250k+ income.  My exit strategy is moving back to Ireland if things go tits up, what's yours?

To quote Adam Corolla from The Hammer: "You called me middle class. That's about the nicest thing anyone ever said to me." I joke but it's true- I take home the poverty line for a family of four. Which doesn't sound that bad but living in California (because that's where all my family is) is awful.

And actually, I'm for capping CEO to low-rung employee ratios and upping the taxes on capital gains. So not all conservatives want to ignore the problems with the super wealthy either.

Moving to Ireland sounds good to me. Maybe I'll do southern England. We'll see if I can find an agent for the book I wrote. Maybe I can become the next 1%er.

Fair share according to liberals is pay 100% of the bills for anybody who votes Democrat. Democrats should pay no taxes whatsoever, because it is fair, in their minds. Only evil people work, and must be punished.

I am a 'socialist Marxist commie librul". I have paid for college using student loans and in fact voted to RAISE taxes in my neighborhood to improve the public schools. I have a full time job and have received zero handouts. How does someone like you and your fellow trolls explain that O' Great Trolly One?

There are some extremes on both sides, it's true. However, then there's people like me who kind of don't fit anywhere. Pro marijuana legalization, pro birth control and pro choice, pro death penalty, anti war and foreign aid, anti welfare, anti Obamacare, pro wealthy tax increases.Trust me, I know I'm a bizarre sort. I simply follow the logic that you have to work to earn your living and there are no free lunches, because for every free lunch person A gets, person B now has to pay for two lunches.

Paint it any color you want, your boy is bad for the country. 7-8% unemployment with less people working and lowering family income is the new norm. Hope. Change. Just going to get worse with Obamacare fully implemented.

The country is bad for the country.  Millions of us are responsible for the crash and now for a recovery, not one single man in the WH. Whether its BHO or GWB. The people caused this mess.

Yes. Absolutely. Why should someone get crap for free just because they don't feel like working for it? I know of people who rode out unemployment and turned down jobs just because they didn't feel like working. Meanwhile I am breaking my back trying just to survive. Seriously? I'm about as liberal as they come and I just finished working on a campaign for a tax levy for the local school district.

Plus, I'm a single mom who has never been on any type of welfare, and I have a decent job with benefits. Let the butthurt begin.

All those programs put in place for single moms and you choose to work? Youre making the rest look bad! Aunt Tom!

As with most things I do.... I choose to work to piss off Republicans. It confuses them because I don't fit a stereotype. As for the thing I reproduced with.... all I can do is claim temporary insanity.... the very definition of generational welfare and die-hard Republicans.

Oh who am I kidding? I thought I could "save" him, but that was stupidity to be talked about some other time. Either way... I work, I pay for my kid, I voted to raise taxes for his school, and I don't take handouts. However, I don't think everyone on welfare is "lazy," and I'm all for helping out those who need an honest hand and I'm for kicking everyone off the government tab who gets their "gold card" by claiming "my back hurts." Yeah, mine does too, naproxen is a good thing, now get your arse to work!

I'm not going to deny that I'm angry about a system that isn't designed to help the hard-working. When I discovered I had a medical issue but had no health insurance, since my job at the time didn't offer it, I still made "too much" to qualify for ANY type of aid. Which is hilarious because I barely scrape by. So I had to change jobs to one that paid the same but only offered terrible "insurance"- if you can call it that- since I pay $400 a month to only have 70% of my medical bills covered. That really sucks for me.

I just dislike people who abuse the system. There's cases where it's needed- like my stepfather, who gets partial unemployment because his work only has work for him 2 or 3 out of 5 days a week since no one is building anything right now. But I just despise the derp in America today.

Just some comments.

1) Single payer / waaaaaaa my industry is going to die if it happens: No matter what happens with taxes, cuts are going to have to come from somewhere. The insurance industry is by nature a parasitic industry, and if in total efficiencies can be made by eliminating it then its what we should do. It sucks to be the people in that line of work but....

2) Someone is going to lose / not in my back yard! - This is one of the major problems facing the country at the moment. Everyone knows there is a problem, everyone is angry about it, *no one* is willing to take the pain to fix it. "The goverment needs to spend less... but don't you dare cut the pork that feeds my industry!", "The poor should find a job the damn lazy bums, but don't they dare ask for programs to help them do so!"

3) Lies, Damn lies, and statistics- Yes, the top 1% pay more income taxes *in total* then the everyone else, but this comparison falls to pieces when looked at as a percentage of income paid in taxes with *all* relevant taxes figured (Income, payroll, sales. property-figured indirectly as part of rental costs). There is also the fact that you can't take what the poor don't have. The only direct way to raise revenues is to tax the top 20% income earners more *while* closing loopholes for everyone.

4) Haha, yea stick it to the rich.. wait what do you mean your cutting my programs too?!?- However, the Republicans are right that we can't just tax our way out of this mess in the long run. Government programs *in total* are going to need to be cut over time. The sequester, in and of itself, wasn't a terribly bad idea, just horrible implemented and timed. This is going to mean cuts in defense, this is going to mean reductions in 'entitlements', this is going to mean improving efficiencies in the markets and programs that are going to negatively impact entire industries, research institutions, and peoples lives as programs are cut, industries are rendered redundant and tax supports are scaled back or eliminated. The best case would be that we scale back the "Sky is Falling!" rhetoric and implement these changes in a calm, methodical, and rational manner after some further economic improvement. Basically using keeping it at a point where it just sucks a little. You know, cutting programs during the good times to minimize the economic impact of the cuts themselves.

Letting terrorists attack the Twin Towers?

Watching the banks destroy the American/World economy?

Entering into two unfounded wars that sent our friends and children and fathers into harm's way unnecessarily?

Embarrassing our country with his clumsy, bullying approach to foreign relations?

Oh. Yeah. Total Bush league behavior. The country is clearly worse off than it was 4 years ago. You've convinced me - and the majority of the country. You know, the majority that voted for him. Now the Obama naysayers are just a loud, frightened minority.

If living on the government dole is so good, it's a real wonder why smartypants like thunderpipes and Joe Blowme haven't gotten the sense to just quit their jobs and live on welfare.  Shiat man, if welfare gets me a Cadillac and some 24" rims along with cash money and EBTs every month to buy lottery tickets and booze, sign me right the fark up!

....

Or, it could just be that these disingenuous farktards don't actually believe a word of the filth that leaves their silly little minds and they are just cogs in the wheel like the rest of us plebeians angry that they are stuck at home with 4 kids, a house that's underwater because they were too dumb to read the market forecast, an ever declining savings account, and a non-existent 401k and they just want someone weaker and easier to punch every now and then.

I'm fine with that, but at least just admit to it you dweebs.

Fair enough, and I agree with you for the most part. In fact I don't think anybody really likes those who game the system because it isn't fair. I just don't think it does any good to be seething with rage over it.  It just makes a person look like all they have is an axe to grind and it turns people off to engaging you over the issues.

You make a valid point about my seething rage, it just hits me REALLY close to home right now since after my $400 in insurance deductions, I'm still looking at easily several hundred dollars in medical bills every month. But pre tax, and pre deduction, boy oh boy, I make twice minimum wage. I should be ROLLING in dough. Also, I'm mad about other things right now so this is kind of just an outlet for me to rage about the stupidity of EVERYTHING right now. What with several of my friends who are SO happy that weed is closer to being legalized- and I think it SHOULD be- but it shouldn't be a major political platform issue, and I'm disgusted with how this recent election played out.

Also, you forget I'm a female. Apparently raging hormones and nagging is all I'm good for.
