Andy Dick robbed us of a live action Troy McClure movie and hastened the Simpsons dive into irrelevance.

/though Fox network's insistence on milking the Simpsons for every last penny and not letting it die on its own played a large part in the march to irrelevance too

Hasn't it been established that the cocaine Andy Dick gave Mrs. Hartman was like, six months before she committed the murder-suicide? Weren't Dick and Hartman good friends? Hartman was the only person to call Dick in rehab, etc.

The crazy wife killed Hartman. Dick didn't. And this is coming from someone who loves Phil Hartman and Jon Lovitz like a MF, so don't start with me.

Well, she was clean and sober until he instigated her relapse, so that's culpable enough for me. And for him to confront Lovitz the way he did shows douchebaggery of a magnitude even Hollywood doesn't see very often. So fark him.

Didn't Lovitz accuse Dick of being responsible, causing Dick to fire back the "curse" comment?

That woman had issues for years, unchecked. Popping Zoloft, drinking alcohol, and sniffing coke were her choices. She had two kids. Don't forget that Hartman was Dick's friend too. Someone somewhere introduced coke to Andy Dick for the first time, leading fo his addiction. Is that person responsible too?

No, Dick walked to Lovitz having dinner and told him 'You should thank me, you wouldn't have gotten Newsradio if it weren't for me.'

So Dick's a dick. Still doesn't make him responsible.

It's no coincidence that every show Phil Hartman left immediately went to shiat. SNL, Pee Wee Herman, The Simpsons, News Radio.

"Went to shiat" is a little strong.

Phil Hartman held the SNL cast together through the lean years until the Adam Sandler/ Chris Farley/ Chris Rock seasons, which were arguably, some of the best seasons on the show.

Likewise, The Simpsons has been on the air for 24 seasons. Hartman was involved with ten of those seasons. It could also be argued that some of the later seasons hold up comepared to the earlier ones, but I'm of the opinion that no one does Lionel Hutz like Phil.

You can't blame Hartman leaving the Pee Wee franchise. it was Ruebens who rubbed it out.

And don't be a dick, but NewsRadio was tailor-made for Hartman. His death destroyed that show, and it never recovered. It was like that show had a stroke or something.

Andy Dick wrecks peoples lives. Everyone around him. Mo Collins for instance -- i remember watching some program where Mo Collins basically said Andy Dick destroyed her marriage.

The only way to deal with attention whores of his magnitude is to quietly convince them cocaine is waiting for them in the back alley and then beat them where nobody can see or hear them, call a cab stuff them in and pay the cabby to push him out halfway across town. And when they scream and whinge about it after you deny and scoff. Because whos going to listen to a fey hyperbolist? The next time they come around you do it again. And again and again. Until they change or until they die.

They are to be ignored when they have an audience and beaten with phone books whenever they dont have an audience.

He's not responsible, but he's a serious asshole. One of the few people I've never ever heard a good word about from industry people. I think the only reason people like him are still around is because of the fame factor. We all immediately know who he is. People are interested in what the asshat [whoever it is, Omorosa or this prick] is going to do next.

I'd have a breakdown too if I realized my career was so far gone that I had to resort to Dancing With The Stars to get any sort of television time.

A little insight into Mrs Hartman....I dont remember what year but Phil asked..and got permission for her to appear with him in the opening scenes that feature each indiviual cast member...It was obvious Phil was uncomfortable with it but Phil was told they would do something with her...
Now if you notice Phil is sitting in a bar/restaurant booth,in his shot, and you see the back of a blondes' head(his wife)...Look closely and you'll see she is wearing long dangly (my word) earrings..and the earring you see is furiously dangling back and forth...
She was outraged they would not put her face in Phil's spot...She kept turning around everytime action was called...every time they would cut,she would biatch out Phil and the crew...Finally the director told the crew..next time she turns around to biatch at Phil...shoot!!     And that's why that earring is swinging so fast..

MaudlinMutantMollusk: How is this sh*tstain still drawing breath and Phil Hartman isn't?

/there truly is no god

It's not survival of the funniest, warm-hearted and charming.

It's survival of the creepiest jerk who's willing to do anything debasing and disgusting in order to survive

It's the only way I've been able to justify this waste of space's existence.

/why yes, I've been drinking
//WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE ME?!

FTA: "Nope, nope. But if I'm in the back alley with a bottle of vodka, you'll know I changed my mind," he said before adding, "No, that's not going to happen!"

Well, it did a few years back when Mr. Dick came to my town. Got kicked off stage early during a comedy routine, got drunk and hit the gay clubs nearby, where he reportedly made quite the scene. Cops picked him up next mid-morning, wandering around the neighborhood. Classy.

btw, when I say 'made a scene', he either peed himself or peed on someone; can't recall.

PIP_the_TROLL: MikeSass: Oh puh-leez...Phil Hartman was no great loss.

I disagree. The man was hilarious.

But the biggest loss (no pun intended) to Comedy in years was:

[media.avclub.com image 627x352]

Completely agreed. Even people like Chris Rock and Louis CK said he could surpass everyone, but he wouldn't let it happen.  A lot of comedians are technicians. Refining jokes, keeping logs, scripting everything out just to look organic. Patrice barely even wrote down any material. His off the cuff stuff was better than his act, and his act was mostly off the cuff.

He could make an audience 100% hate him in the first 10 minutes. Fill people with disgust and rage, get half of them to walk out of the room, and then by the end of the show, the remaining 50% is now love with him. That is pure genius.

ChrisDe: Manufactured drama on DTWT? No way!

Seems like it to me.  Despite how hated he is (and go ahead and throw me in there because of the Hartman thing) there's nothing in here to indicate any sort of real breakdown other than a run of the mill bad day.

Shall we all chip in to send him a 'fark off and die' bouquet?

Dead flowers are cheaper.
