She should have bid $20, $30, and $40 on the individual prizes. You never lose if you go with $20, $30, and $40.

She'll probably just win again. You'd think producers would be smarter about that sort of thing after that Hunter Tylo case.

she earned that money-

Does she get to keep the cheap catamaran?

You would think that in this day and age, with digital imagery in the palm of nearly everyone's hand, we could get a picture of the model to go with TFA. Drew Carey is a nice enough guy I suppose but I don't want to see him when the story at hand is about models. Oh well, off to Google search...

I wouldn't be too sure of that.  From what the article says it sounds like her main issues were with her own health.  A few months of being treated differently shouldn't have caused that.  To me it sounds like the usual game of seeing who we can stick with the bill.

-It's a job where they only hire attractive, younger people in good shape
-Your entire job skillset is to act charming and look attractive
-Why were they required to rehire her?
-$7.7 mil is a ridiculous settlement for that kind of thing

Anyone, not just her could sue them because technically they breach normal hiring policies by being looks oriented. It's a ridiculous suit.

After Cochran won her trial, the California Supreme Court made a decision about jury instructions...

Maybe it's just early in the morning, but I'm not getting this. And I'm too tired to bother.

2013-03-13 11:03:27 AM
Aren't the model's contracts seasonal on The Price Is Right? I think I heard that in another article about this. But what really bothers me is the $7.7 mil that she won. Why so much. I can see maybe her yearly salary but not that amount. That is a cash grab.

Mrs. Cochran's case was sent back to the lower court for retrial on a technicality.

Somebody at FremantleMedia knows that judge and called in a favor. There are no laws that apply to big Hollywood producers in the land of fruits nuts and flakes. I hope the next jury doubles the damages.

2013-03-13 11:15:07 AM
This seems like such a minor technically that I doubt a jury would find differently. But why did the judge change the instructions? That's just asking for a reversal.
Also I bet most of the people that watch this show are old females that probably don't care if they see a preggers woman up there. The only people that do are the shows producers that want something to put into the spank bank.

That reminded me of this tidbit (as seen on Wiki):

"Officially, the mountain climber has no name, although several hosts have used their own names for him. Doug Davidson referred to the climber on The New Price Is Right as "Hans Gudegast", which is the birth name of his Young and the Restless co-star Eric Braeden. Drew Carey has referred to him as "Hans", "Yodel Man", and most frequently, "Yodely Guy." At The Price Is Right Live!, he is often referred to as "Johann." Dennis James referred to the climber as "Fritz"; in one infamous incident in 1976, after the climber fell off the cliff, James commented, "There goes Fritz!", unaware that Janice Pennington's then-husband, Fritz Stammberger had recently disappeared in a mountain climbing accident; James's offhand comment upset Pennington so much that she remained backstage crying for the rest of the episode "

I'm not one to easily dismiss discrimination suits, but it's fairly obvious she was hired on looks and looks alone.  Mature adults should be willing to enter into employment contracts that state outright "You are being hired because of your physical appearance, and your continuing employment is predicated on the maintenance of a specific image."

Pennington later put out a book theorizing that her husband, who was one of the top mountain climbers in the world, had been a CIA agent who was captured and killed in Soviet-occupied Afghanistan.

The point of punitive damages are to be ridiculous. They're supposed to be punishments. If they're not very large, people won't care about paying them.

That's the way it should be. Woman is nine months pregnant and then POP! the baby squirts out her enlarged bellybutton. Daddy or Mommy chews the cord and the circle of life continues....

If they had any common sense, they not only would have kept her on the show, they would have put the spotlight on her and used her pregnancy as a promotional tool.

When you're getting paid by the hour or the appearance, it's perfectly reasonable. By your logic, the least stressed people in the world should be homeless bums, because they have no jobs.

so, your job is to be eye candy
you hid something that impacts your ability to do your job from your employer
you were fired for having a lesser ability to do your job.
you deserve 7.7 million dollars why?

i can understand if your job was data entry or something other than "look pretty for the cameras"... but you're farking scenery. they replace the carpet when it gets stained/worn out too.
