I've had Muslims tell me with a straight face that unless you can speak Arabic, you can't really understand the Koran. Because God only speaks Arabic or something, and it just can't be translated properly unlike all the world's other major holy texts over the millenia. So learn Arabic if you want to discuss the Koran, infidel.

Pretty convenient.

apparently this works on Jews as well

http://blackrod.blogspot.ca/2013/03/oy-vey-will-sandy-shindlemans-la ws uit.html

Then, a couple of weeks ago, Warren, whose website declares he is "gathering and sharing evidence that will bring Sam Katz and his band of thieves to justice before organized crime takes hold in Winnipeg", raised the ante. He circulated a blog titled 'The Katz Doctrine' which consisted of ten points along the lines of:

1) God is never angry about the Jews, just about the Non-Jews.
6) Jews may steal from Non-Jews.
7) Jews always have to try to deceive Non-Jews.
8) Jews may lie to Non-Jews. Jews may use lies (subterfuges) to circumvent a Gentile.
9) Every Jew is allowed to use lies and perjury to bring a Non-Jew to ruin.

Ouch. The reaction was immediate. Even people who supported his provocative poster because they were fed up with cronyism at city hall distanced themselves from what appeared to be outright anti-semitism. We certainly did.

It doesn't matter, we're talking about the Koran now. Just because the bible is violent doesn't mean we can't point out violence in other religions. We should be pointing it out in all religions, and all their flaws and inaccuracies as well. They are all farked up and cause more problems than they 'solve'.

It's a half-truth from some half-assed muslims.
To properly interpret the Koran you should read it as Muhammed wrote it. Unfortunately the idioms and semantic/pragmatic wordplays are as lost on modern arab readers as they would be on english readers so the whole point sort of just...dies. Also what institutes a "proper interpretation" is sort of fuzzy. And also, this in no way means that you can't argue against a muslim touting his views in a debate. You can properly interpret his words as he says them. ;)

Its a little different because if you ask a general member of society about the obama quotes, the typical response is, 'that's some inbred redneck'.   If you question arabs partying in the street on 911, the response is, they are, of course, justified, stop doing what they dont like.

I'm quite certain that it isn't telling everyone on one hand, not to kill your children because you are low on cash, and on the other hand, telling you to eat them.

Mohammad didn't write the Koran. He was illiterate. He related his (often conveniently times) "revelations" to others who eventually wrote them down and collected them into the Koran after Big Mo's death in 632.

first: The photo of one of the ads in the article shows Osama Bin Laden. Calling Bin Laden a "prominant Muslim" is like calling Ralph Rene a "prominant scientist". Also the American Freedom Defense Initiative is explicitly anti-Muslim.

Well, since you're using the King James Version, we're not dealing with a very accurate translation For instance at first glance 2 Samuel 12:31  sounds really bad, but that's because of improper translation and modern use of the English phrase "put under" having changed emphasis.  Reading any modern translation, David puts the people to WORK sawing, making bricks etc.  Not exactly the same thing.

And Deuteronomy 28:53  is about the curse(s) you will receive should you disobey the Lord. It's meant to be shocking and awful. It didn't happen. Read the passages leading up to it, they're just as bad or worse.
Similarly Isaiah 13 is a warning/threat to Babylon to stop sinning.
And Ezekiel 5 as well, is the punishment for disobedience. It's a reference to the same Deut. passage. "See, some really bad shait will come to pass, don't you remember?"
I've got no explanation for 2 Kings 2:23-24. Stephen Colbert had it right.

I've never heard anyone argue that. In fact, I've heard just the opposite. Many Christian theologians study ancient Greek and Hebrew.

I have heard that you need to learn the Koran in Arabic to really understand it though.

2013-03-13 10:56:16 AM
There certainly are congregations of Christians who believe only in the KJV.  They're usually very conservative groups, where the women are subjugated and must keep their hair long and covered.  Cruise around the web a little, and you'll find them.

Agreed.  There's plenty of blame to go around.  Christianity used to be as evil as the Islamists are now.

Also, this is using the words of current Jihadists, not merely ancient words.
