Dennis Green is where I thought he'd be.  It's nice to know that someone crowned his ass for that.

Top 10 coach meltdowns not including hockey, I suppose.

Last year at nationals qualifiers I was beating this kid pretty thoroughly and off to the side his coach was having a meltdown of that caliber. It was really freaking gratifying. Every time I hit the kid the coach would flip out a little worse. Purple, screaming, cursing with made-up words, it was epic. One of my favorite moments.

List fails without Lee Elia.

What about Woody Hayes? It's not a meltdown to punch an opposing player on the field?

Did anyone on the list lose their job because of their meltdown?

2013-03-13 10:22:20 AM
That wasn't even Jim Mora's best one.

How did John Chaney not make the list?

Bobby Cox got ejected from games more often than any other manager. Of course, he did it largely just yelling at the umps. And he was always boring at press conferences.

// old school
// I do like the UM coach - that's a situation worthy of a rant, and apart from being too mad to make grammatic sense sometimes, it was a good'un

That wasn't a meltdown. That was just an analysis of the situation. People think that was a meltdown, because they aren't Cub fans. They project their own manager on the situation, the manager of the Yankees, say. Or the Dodgers. They imagine their own managers saying things like that, and they think it sounds crazy. And they would be right. But these are the Cubs, and as a Cub fan, I can tell you that a real meltdown ends with sobbing.

I am surprised a publication such as Coed Magazine does not provide a well-researched piece on coach meltdowns.

Wait, no I'm not, it's called Coed Magazine.

In my opinion, "I'm a man, I'm 40!" is truly the greatest.  The fact that it is regularly referenced in conversation with my friends cements it for me.  The chair throw was good, but no quotability.

I'd usually point out that the reason hockey was omitted is because it's not relevant to most people, but there's a women's basketball coach on there so yeah, I got nothin

Submit links to hockey coach meltdowns...I'd gladly watch em.  There's no crazy quite like hockey crazy

Yup. "I'll kill you! I'm gonna kick your ass!"

Unfortunately, the clip here doesn't do the whole thing justice, as it doesn't include the beginning (Calipari stopping his comments with a "WTH is going on back there?" look) and cuts short the end.

It was at that point that Chaney went to "just-shy-of-great coach with a loveable irritable streak" to "pretty good coach who might not be worth the trouble". (Although he obviously stayed on for a number of years after that.)

Super Chronic: List fails without Lee Elia.

This.  Elia's rant is likely not included because there's no video of it, but it's the standard by which all other meltdown rants are measured.

Oh, NSFW language, but turn it up anyway and tell your boss they can kiss your farking ass, right downtown, and print it!

List totally fails without Woody Hayes!!!  His meltdown in Ann Arbor in 1971 is an all time classic, storming the field, ripping the plastic off the down markers then stomping on them.  All while we sang Na Na hey hey goodbye.  Good times!

Nah, that's just Burnsy.

Back when it happened, that bit got a shiat ton of air play on the local morning zoo crew stations around here, as you can well imagine.

It's actually funnier with the bleeps.
