2013-03-13 10:20:37 AM
Wow, Subby, the Japanese invented Methane Hydrate?  And as if that weren't enough, managed to get it in place all over the ocean floor?  Damn!

Wait, they sell used girls' panties in vending machines??

I know I shouldn't be surprised or in disbelief.

Wait, wait.  Did you know you can make fire from ice?  Yes, because Anthony Hopkins taught us how.

Surprisingly good film.

Because just what we need is to dig up more fossil fuels and burn them.

We don't deserve this planet.

They can burn a form of methane that costs a million dollars an ounce to lift? Brilliant!

The breakthrough could be a boon to the energy-poor nation, which imports almost all of its energy.

Cool...

If Japan can perfect its extraction technique, the area would provide the country with enough natural gas to last 11 years.

Wow... That should be a boon and solve all your energy problems... *rolls eyes*

Let's just hope that they manage to burn what they release. A massive scale release of methane would be a lot more detrimental than the CO2 that would come from combusting it.

Uhhh.. I'm no scientist, but I believe the term "frozen gas" is like saying "cold fire"

" Jogmec says there are at least 1.1 trillion cubic meters of the stuff in the trough where it is currently drilling, just off the Pacific Coast. If Japan can perfect its extraction technique, the area would provide the country with enough natural gas to last 11 years. "Japan's waters reportedly contain a total of 7 trillion cubic meters of flammable ice, which would supply the country with natural gas for many, many decades to come."
