Heh heh.

Let's ask Ollie North what he thinks!

<i>/if you don't think our current government has a hand in the drug trade, you are stupid, and you should feel bad.

2013-03-13 09:29:40 AM
So instead of just shutting down the operations completely, this rebel outfit just pushes Columbia's problems off onto another more ruthless drug cartel. Maybe finding common ground with the Columbian government means making shiat worse for it.

I heard Drew actually accepts cocaine as payment for TF subs and for banner space.

Featured partner links, on the other hand, are a dark compact. The secrets to how they are formed (and what passes for payment between the parties) are too horrifying to even type, let alone speak aloud.

/It involves cats and Makers Mark. That's all I can say without crying myself into a panic attack.

The desperation with which Buzzfeed spams their links has convinced their site sucks and I should never go there.  I mean if they were amusing or interesting, they'd go green on their own merit, right?

Any takers, Drew?

I have a beef on this too; as if "featured partners" are not deserving of our witty retorts or smart ass comments because they "pay to have their fine products on here". like, they couldn't take the "gentle chides" from your members- it IS fark, after all and sometimes the threads comments might even be positive- Really-

They have an IMBD entry for some reason.   http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1617981/ Also they had to be the easiest people in the world to troll, their work product sucked and all of Fark pretty much agreed.  Those threads were amazingly bloody.

That is what I don't get.  The only time I've ever clicked on Plug links is after I've seen some positive comments in the thread from user accounts I recognize.  By turning off the comments they ensure I never look at them.

ferretman: Does anyone even view the 'partner links'?

No. There's not much point when there isn't a discussion thread. Even if half the thread is made up of Farkers complaining about the sponsored links, there's still some conversation available.

Back on subject. i must admit to being a bit surprised that it is possible to buy and transfer shares in the Colombian cocaine trade. I wonder if they issue stock certificates, perhaps in a small and easily rolled up form? If I call a stockbroker and ask about buying into cocaine, will I instead get the number of his source in Soho?

I have yet to click on a  Featured Partner link, and I won't until I can read and post snarky comments about it or the headline in the comments section.

Finally a thread to biatch about the (Featured Partner) Links -- at least until this thread goes down the memory hole.

Serously, Drew, either drop the program or don't be such a chickenshiat and turn on comments on those links. It's the quality of the community in the threads that are Fark's stongest point. Fark isn't going to be able to compete with Reddit on quality of links.

Of course, I'm guessing you still care enough to not turn Fark into an experemental lab to see how much shiat the users will put up with before they leave the site in droves.  Don't have Fark end up like Digg.

They merged it with Adult Swim and fired almost the entire staff, some bits tried to make a show on AS but they also crashed and burned horribly. And I agree with you, those threads got vicious fast.

But I loved the regular things from them, such as the Fark TV With sweat and dead mans balls

This! Those featured partner BS links are something I will absolutely not click on, unless I can comment on 'em. I don't click on all the nutjob sites you always find in the politics tab simply to deny them the click too.

It always amazed me how those people couldn't handle criticism.  If you post something to Fark, clearly you'll face snark, but really a certain level of snark from Farkers is a good sign.  When the entire community shreds you over the span of 200 comments, maybe you need to reconsider your act.  They never got that, over the course of two attempts.

Part of wishes they never quit honestly, I mean the content posted was pretty bad. However you could always be assured that your Monday's would start the day off right with a proper fail thread and by the end of it you could a good laugh.

I would if I had clicked on everything else and was still bored. That lasted until a couple days ago when I clicked on one that was something along the lines of "Top 5 celebrity Hot Messes" and it was nothing more than a worn out list of old celebrity rehab jokes and an ad for the new Jack in the box Hot Mess burger at the bottom.

I can put up with ads if they at least give me something worthwhile on the page to read, but that was the most pathetic thing I have ever seen. Wont click on any more.

I only noticed the other day that the 'geek_ext' finally went away. I'd been using my plain fark.com/geek bookmark to view the geek tab exclusively because of that _ext BS.

Fu*k cocaine, we need the DEA to shut down this lame featured partner link thing. Till we can directly comment on how damn stupid they are I'm all set with clicking.

Is this comment thread going to be deleted like the last one where we complained about Featured Partners links?

2013-03-13 11:51:02 AM
I've clicked a few when I'm bored. Seems weird not to have comments... that's the essense of Fark. But I understand the necessity. At first I was annoyed by them but go for it, Drew.

2013-03-13 11:56:36 AM
I'm not going to complain about the featured partner links, because that's pretty small potatoes.

Rather, I've been getting spam through a friend's email account that have been nothing but a single link to a Buzzfeed article.

What seemed at the start to be a second rate Cracked rip-off has turned into a self-promoting piece of second-rate shiat site that relies on spam and paid placement to get hits. Which, honestly, is a surprise given how many Buzzfeed articles were being submitted and greenlighted here. I figure they saw the uptick in hits from Fark and went for broke by buying placement.

That's obviously backfired on them. As has the spam. They won't be getting any clicks from me.

No chance.  Drew knows exactly what would happen.
No clicks from me, either.  I avoid them, but they seem to be breeding.  They sure don't fit in well with the "witty headline" motif, do they?

If Fark's users hate the content in the Featured Partners links, then BuzzFeed is stupid for paying for the placement, and Drew is stupid for shoving it in our faces.

What partner links?

2013-03-13 12:41:56 PM
I turned AdBlock off on this site when I saw that little banner at the top, saying that Fark gets its support by the loading of adverts. I can put up with stupid, animated crap that I'll not pay attention to, even though it slows my ancient laptop a little, in order to help keep this site alive...

I turned AdBlock back on, once I saw that the fourth link down was an advertisement masquerading as actual content. If that's how you vote with your wallet these days, consider my vote cast. Ads are fine, but when they're put in the place of content I can't abide.
