The real horror here is that the money that they raise will be used to train children how to effectively hit things with blunt objects.

TEACHING CHILDREN TO HIT THINGS WITH BLUNT OBJECTS.

You know, things similar to hammers, clubs, and baseball bats.

Blunt objects were used to murder 496 people in 2011 - including children - that's 1.5 times as many people as were murdered with ALL rifles combined - including "Assault Rifles".

That's right, for every 10 people murdered with rifles, 15 were murdered with blunt objects similar to baseball bats.

Worse still, these "Assault Bats" can be bought at virtually any variety or sporting goods store, with NO background check, NO waiting period, and NO age restriction - if a child is old enough to lay money on the counter, he or she can walk out with one of these killing machines - no questions asked.

Isn't it time we had a rational discussion about Little League?

Stop the madness.

Write your Congressmen, people.

I don't see any problem either. Of course, I recognize that it's just a rifle, and that it's the user and not the machine that dictates the behavior.

o.k. subby.... the "problem" is that it looks sorta, kinda, maybe like a gun that was used in a crime somewhere else?

Why, exactly is this a problem for another group of people in another place and time? We don't demonize every bartender in town every time someone gets a DUI? Why should every gun owner be demonized for the actions of one lunatic?

The more liberals persist in acting like gun owners are trafficking in kiddie pr0n and ought to be ashamed of themselves and go hide in the basement; the sillier and less relevant you become.

Not an assault rifle. Nor was the firearm used at Sandy Hook. Less than 2% of all murders in the US are committed with rifles (and far from all of those with AR-15's). There is basically no better choice for home defense than an AR-15. If the kids benefit and nobody is harmed, then what is the problem exactly?

Also, interesting related recent development, the Department of Homeland Security just ordered 7000 AR-15s with 30 round magazines and they very specifically referred to them as Personal Defense Weapons. So one of the few departments of the federal government actually qualified to talk about firearms considers them appropriate for personal defense.

The problem is you are taking what is supposed to be the scapegoat for all of our nations suffering and casting it in a positive light.
That ruins the rest of the narrative.

Am I the only one who feels caught in the middle between crazy jackasses? A certain vocal part of the gun rights set would have me believe it's perfectly reasonable for people to walk around with high-power, high capacity rifles anywhere and everywhere, and that even questioning the idea is tantamount to being a communist. Meanwhile the anti-gun people would have me believe that if I so much as play a video game like Grand Theft Auto I have effectively engaged in genocide against all the babies of the world. I may be naive, but there's probably a middle ground where the people who aren't great big coonts live.

Yes, the government and police departments should be the sole arbiter of a gun culture.

willfullyobscure: This isn't a legal decision, its a cultural one.

And you should not be the arbiter of my culture. It is OK if you wish to opt out, I would think no less of you. I merely request the same level of respect.

willfullyobscure: So don't blame me when the open carry tards and the hurr durr imma tactical dude assholes manage to frighten the rest of the country into taking your guns away, You could have had them if you kept your traps shut and didn't act like complete tacti-tard rejects from life and wave your gun penises in everyone's face.

I agree with your reasons, and disagree with your suggestion that they qualify for the revocation of rights.

Good question, may have been the early-1970's - that was when toy and department stores stopped selling quasi-realistic-looking toy guns.

If you believe every gun is a threat because there's a few nuts out there, do you believe every Muslim is a threat because there's a few who flew planes into buildings on 9/11 ?

Real Women Drink Akvavit: ...Classes and testing should be required before being permitted to possess ANY firearm, along with anyone who owns a weapon being held legally responsible for its use, even if they were not the one using it (so keep your firearms secured at all times and no loaning out your firearms to unlicensed people, just like you wouldn't loan out your car to someone who wouldn't/couldn't pass the tests for a licenses) ...

Would you support classes and testing before people are allowed to consume alochol or other drugs? How about before people are allowed to operate farm machinery? Swim in pools? You don't get a license to drive a car. You get a license to drive on the government's roads. I know government-licensed drivers I wouldn't trust to drive my car, and unlicensed individuals I would trust. If the government provided gun ranges, then it might be reasonable for them to have training requirements for using those ranges (not that I think the federal or state governments should be in the gun range business). And finally, what about classes and tests for voting? Someone shouldn't be allowed to defend themselves, but voting for someone who's promised to send our troops to kill tens (hundreds?) of thousands of people in a foreign land, is okay? Voting to suport the world's highest incarceration rate? Military spending almost as much as the rest of the world combined? A President who can assasinate anyone, citizen or not, without a trial? Can the people who vote to support these crimes be held liable for them?

Hey, aren't you supposed to be saying "No one is going to take your guns away"? You should stay on message.

He switches every other thread. This thread is concern trolling.

Next thread he is back to nobody wants to ban guns.

I'm pretty consistent about wanting to ban AR-style guns. they are out loud crappy tech,  fashion statement toy guns, with no real value, and only designed to give the user a tactical hard on. They are antithetical to common sense, actual knowledge about firearms and the great firearm traditions of this country, and their users are almost certain to be ignant morons. They should be banned simply because we don't need a CIVILIAN paramilitary gun culture. This isn't a legal decision, its a cultural one. We don't want sex and vilence on TV, we don't want to walk around Topeka looking like its farking Somalia.

Came here to say this. Most military style firearms have killed thousands if not more in wars and people don't point that out every time one of them changes hands. If they outlawed sensationalism, the media would have to actually work to get viewers.
