As long as van Persie and Fabregas are in form, there's no way Arsenal can lose!

Good a thread.. I thought after mine went red hours ago that the mods were just going to let it go since the last few had been trolltastic shiatfests.

Erm, about that...............

Also in bad for Arsenal news, Sczeczny didn't make the trip with the team, so Fabianski is in goal for the away leg.

2013-03-12 03:35:27 PM
Aresenal is done, but no one is going to be too surprised if Messi drops 4 or 5 on Milan today. Especially without their groundskeeper to cheat for them.

I saw the odds were 35:1 for Arsenal to advance. Thinking about putting a fiver down just for shiats and giggles.

No, I don't think they'll advance. But I'd like to see them get a goal in the first half just to keep it interesting.

I think they only get 1 goal today. Milan will be knocking him down all day again. But damn if i dont want Messi getting a hat trick today

Bad run of form. Losing to Real's B team, then Real's A team, The AC Milan in the space of a week and a ahlaf will cause people to start asking questions about you.

If its going to happen for Arsenal, they need a 5-star performance from Walcott. 5-2 gets it done

Yes, I'm aware, but faith in Barca seems to be especially weak. I attribute it to skepticism of the Barca style and the relative small size of their players, and maybe their lack of emphasis on defense.

This just in. Reports from the Vatican report white smoke drifting from the conclave chimney. The story coming from an inside source that a Dark Horse by the name of Lionel Messi has been named the next Pope. Explanation as to breaking previous practice of naming an existing cardinal was scoffed away with the claim that this was "clearly God's will".

I think it's more hope in their diminishing form than lack of faith. People know Barca on their day are unstoppable, they're just hoping that age of the players, number of games played, something, anything is finally catching up to them so someone else has a chance.

Most don't want 1 much less 2 English keepers.

Schalke has tied it, but they still need another due to away goals.

2013-03-12 05:14:27 PM
How to turn Americans into soccer fans is to simply have them watch Messi and Barca operate. I have converted a few people over the CL to watching soccer just on his games alone. That and they always ask me Ronaldo looks like such a d-bag. I simply say...because when you are that talented you can be.

Milan have looked like scoring a grand total of twice this match and have missed both. They can't get a hold of the ball and even when they do, they can't seem to string together any passable attempts at going forward. While they just need one garbage goal to move through. it is highly more likely that Barca get a fourth and put this to bed.

Good news Bayern and Arsenal fans, you get the Czech ref Kralovec who dicked us over in the league this past weekend. It wasn't that he let agressive play carry on, its that he missed many blatent calls. He stopped play when he shouldnt have and let it carry on when it should have been stopped.

Also Ribery and Podolski are both out it seems.

Podolski is out, as are Wilshere, Sagna, Diaby and Gibbs.  I'm pretty sure that regardless of the officiating, Arsenal is going to be curb-stomped this afternoon. Only a miracle would put them through today.

2013-03-13 09:05:01 AM
Oh, and Villareal, the replacement for Gibbs, can't play because he's cup-tied.

Arsenal's back line today consists of Vermaelen, a beer vendor off the street, a groundskeeper whose orange vest looks close enough to an Arsenal jersey, and a Daily Echo photographer who was in Munich to cover a completely different story but generally dislikes Germans on principle.

So Arsenal are out their #1 keeper, two starting midfielders, both starting fullbacks, a backup fullback, and your 4th best scorer and best assist man. And your going up against the current best form and scoring team in all of Europe.

Ya'll are farked.

Ugh; heard on The Monday Night Club on Five Live that maybe Moyes is looking to move on from Everton.  Praying that Wenger either leaves, moves up or heads to PSG so that Arsenal can hire him.

Chelsea would give him a fat contract, so would Citeh if they decide enough's enough with Mancini, but would hope that Arsenal snags him beforehand.

2013-03-13 03:46:34 PM
Not holding my breath for arsenal going through, but would love to see them put in a comeback attempt like the one they did last year vs AC. I have a could chunk of change heading my way if Arsenal and Malaga come away with W's today

ScouserDuck: Anybody see the stunner that helped the sounders overcome their deficit against Tigres in th CCL?

Yes and i am very tired after staying up to see it last night. Tonight i will probably stay up to see if Dynamo and LA Galaxy can join Sounders in CCL semi-finals.

Of course if Arsenal do pull off the miracle, they will be missing at least 18 players in the next round.

Yeah, look at the stats and really Arsenal were lucky to win. Fabianski played really well and had plenty of work to do. 45% of possession and being outshot by about 4-1 is not a formula for consistent success.

In the last 3 CL seasons, Arsenal have beaten Barcelona, AC Milan, and Bayern Munich in the knockout round, but failed to advance each time. What a kick in the danglers.

Sorry but that's not the argument should be going with. They know it's a two-leg tie. They've had some unlucky draws to be honest. There are 4-5 teams I would have rather played at this point

It's like the clubs that put in their wiki article that they knocked off Real Madrid or Manchester United back in '92... yea they beat them, after they were crushed in the first leg.

Oh, I understand that. I was more commenting on their incosistency. They are obviously capable of getting a great result, but at the same time incapable of putting 2 good performances together.

Very true. They're almost a shoe-in to get out of the group, and a shoe-in for an early exit in the knockouts

I was also getting flashbacks of Bayern last year in the CL final. They were supposed to crush Chelsea who sneaked in by parking the bus vs Barca and they fell apart at home. They very nearly did the same tonight

Sorry I couldn't join y'all this go round - missed the match, too. Having a bit of a family tragedy that I've had to rush home for a few days and handle. But man, looks like I missed a good one.

I've gotta say, while I never want to see them lose, this isn't a bad loss. They played very well, built a lot of confidence, and can now focus on fourth place without distraction. I don't believe they had it in them to win the CL, so this isn't a terrible result.

I do appreciate it. Without going into too much detail, we lost a family member rather unexpectedly. It's pretty painful, but I've got a solid family that's doing the best they can, and that's all you can really ask for.

Of course, is Wenger had actually spent money to get talent...this wouldn't be happening.

...by falling just short of pulling off a similar comeback the day after Barca had theirs. They played very well, of course.
