OK - I hate to weigh in here but...

My live in and I raise beef cattle and most of the money we make basically goes back into the farm.  It does give us some cushion financially with our full time jobs but we work so much that it is like a second full time job.  Any woman that goes to this thinking that she is going to find a sugar daddy is insane since she will be expected to work on the farm too.  I don't mind it most of the time but it is a physical and dirty job that is never over...night, Christmas, etc.  Stuff has to be fed, babies are being born, fences fall down and it never happens at a time when it is convenient.  When it is 100 degrees and you have no grass because of the drought and cows are breaking down fences and escaping you really begin to question if it is all worth the trouble.

That sounds about right. In my small area there are multi-generational farmers, where even after the head of family divvies things up among the kids (each with their own full time jobs btw) they can still live the good life, multiple vacations, new buildings, build houses, etc. They do work very hard, but to say the majority of farmers around me are 'advantaged' is the understatement of the decade.

Seriously, except for a few people who are paid set aside monies, I do not know anyone who get subsidies.  Even after the drought, it was impossible to get assistance for hay and such.  I would have appreciated some help for the masive quantities of hay we have had to buy...

I'm working a gig in Iowa in a little over a week--they liked me so much last year that I'm making a return appearance.  Truth is, places like Cedar Rapids or the Quad Cities are seriously underrated and are actually very nice places to live in.  On the other hand, glamorous tourist traps like Sunset Boulevard or Manhattan are seriously overrated--Sunset Boulevard had some upscale shops but it was mostly nail and tanning salons.  I'll bet your typical corn farmer is a nicer person than your typical passive-aggressive Farker...

It speaks to the general immaturity of a lot of the people who post on Fark.  Baby nursing?  Well, I'll just whip my dick out and pee in public!  Never mind that the little baby will soon be pottytrained, because it is unacceptable for adults and older kids to urinate in public.  People who are deathly allergic to peanuts?  Never mind that the allergic person is someone's child, and nothing else is "wrong" with the person.  They should just be fed peanuts and if they die, oh well, Darwin.  A young woman weighs 150 pounds instead of 110?  Fatty.  Put down the fork, Fatty, say the multitudes of ugly people, people with tiny dicks, people who smell like a gym bag full of sweaty, dirty gym socks, people who are mean, rude, and generally unfun to be around, so they have no friends -- people who smoke, drink, do drugs, or have other unhealthful habits.

I appreciate the month of total fark that was gifted to me, but I really don't care to spend more time on fark.  I really do just read it for the articles, and sift through the garbage in the comments in case someone has something intelligent or interesting to say.

A person lives in the country and raises the food we all eat?  Durrr, must be really stupid.  Never mind that the farmer works harder than probably anyone posting on here.  Never mind that he has to have a keen knowledge of mathematics, the skills of a mechanic, the skills of a veterinarian.  Never mind that he and his family have to "go to town," probably a half hour away at least, to buy the things they need.

Sometimes you people make me sick.  Go ahead and post your "welcome to fark."  If you are so proud of being douchebags that you display it with that stupid picture, there really is no hope for you.
