I'm by no means pro-gun, but subby's headline sucks. The woman was exercising her 2nd Amendment rights simply by owning and carrying a gun. Murder doesn't enter into it.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:  Women shouldn't have all the rights that men have.  They're too high-strung.  If they want to try shooting a gun, they should ask their husband for permission, and he'll let her borrow one of his low-powered guns that he keeps around for teaching toddlers to shoot.  And if he's smart, he'll load it with blanks before he hands it over to her.

i believe what Trollmitter was attempting to call attention to was that the current NRA advocated interpretation of the 2nd amendment greatly facilitates these sorts of heat of passion crimes due to the pervasiveness of firearm ownership in contemporary american society. err somethin.

If you aren't going to confuse owning a firearm with automatically using it to kill people, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave the thread.

There is no way this could have ever been prevented with any type of controls on guns. Even if you removed all the guns, this woman would still shoot her ex boyfriend.

Odd since I keep hearing how the 2nd Amendment applies to everyone and it has no restrictions. Are you now saying there are restrictions? That's not what the 2nd Amendment says according to the NRA.

Those are the people proposing reasonable restrictions on gun ownership.  Reasonable.

"Police said they have no clear motive right now"

1. "The couple's breakup was hard for Myles to accept, and she harassed Davis, even confronting him at local gas station."

2. From the fiancee: "The day before he died, he asked me to marry him, and I said yes."

3. ?

It doesn't take a police investigator to know step 3 was Facebook.

Holy farking balls batman. She committed a crime with a gun. It was a chance encounter outside of a post office. She drove by, saw her ex, parked her car behind his and then shot him. Why are we not talking about outlawing cars or post offices?

If she slit his throat or ran him over everybody would be talking about how crazy she was.

But it was the gun that made her do it.

Was it a Glock 1911 or an AR-47?

Wait a minute, Mr. Postman
Take a letter, Maria
Sealed with a kiss

etc. etc.

I'm sure there's comedy gold in there somewhere but I'm too lazy to go digging for it.

The same reason we aren't talking about outlawing guns.

What's the least survivable, a gunshot, a knife wound, or getting hit by a car? If you said anything besides "gunshot" then you're an idiot. Nobody doubts that she's crazy - so why did she have a gun? If she'd been a crazy without a gun, maybe the ex boyfriend is still alive.

Father_Jack: i believe what Trollmitter was attempting to call attention to was that the current NRA advocated interpretation of the 2nd amendment greatly facilitates these sorts of heat of passion crimes due to the pervasiveness of firearm ownership in contemporary american society. err somethin.

Exactly. It's the refutation of "an armed society is a polite society." She was armed, and now he's dead. The NRA seems to think that everybody who carries a gun is automatically on the defensive and will only use it for the purest of reasons, like to protect an innocent schoolchild from a rampaging psycho-killer. Their opponents believe that everybody who carries a gun is just a spilled latte away from shooting the barrista, the guy in line behind them, the meter maid who gave them a ticket while they were inside the coffee shop, and three more random people on the sidewalk. The answer obviously lies somewhere in between.
