I met him, fifteen minutes ago. I was told there was nothing left. No fastball, no changeup, no slider; even the most rudimentary sense of balls or strikes, hits or strikeouts, OBP or SLG. I met this five-year veteran, with this blank, pale, emotionless face and, the blackest eyes. . . the devil's eyes. I spent eight pitches trying to hit his stuff, and then another seven trying to keep him from beaning me because I realized what was living behind that pitcher's eyes was purely and simply. . . evil.
