xrayspx: sno man: If the first one was "Nice jeans, they'd look great on my floor" would this still have been an issue?

I was thinking if it was "genes" that might be a doofy MIT nerd twist.  But on thinking about it, it implies "I want to club you with a shovel and drag you bleeding back to my apartment", so I guess no.

How about "Nice genes, they'd look great in my offspring" ?  No violent overtones, at least.

I've taken several nude photos of her over the last few years. Send me an email, and I'll gladly send them along.

I went to law school with this guy: Student Sex Survey Leads to Suspension.

And the paper spelled his last name wrong.

dinch: Dang, I thought for sure there'd be pics of hot MIT chicks in here.

:,(

Never forget the 4-10 rule: due to overall scarcity, a "4" at a State college is a "10" at MIT.

These seem pretty harmless to me, and I wonder if its not sexist for all the commentators to immediately assume these were pick-up lines meant to be used by men on women?  "Do you wash your clothes in Windex? "Cause I can tottaly see myself in your pants" is pretty Unisex.   Isn't sexist to assume only MEN are sexual agressors and users of cheesy pick up lines*

*well yes, of  course they ARE in the real world, but that's only because the only pick-up line needed by just about any woman who really wants to get laid is "Hi, nice to meet you, I really want to get laid"

2013-03-12 02:16:29 PM
blatz514: "So cheesy pick-up lines are offensive?"

Everyone should be offended by 'jokey' pick-up lines.
FFS they weren't funny the first time and most of them are old enough to drink.

Ohlookabutterfly: So although my genetics and DNA dictate I must be sexually attracted to women because of their figures and looks I'm supposed to ignore those millenia of evolution because some people find it offensive?

The pussification of the North American male continues unabated.

Yes, if by "pussification" you mean "the growing realization that women are not slaves or toys," then, yes, the pussification of the North American male does indeed continue.

Why don't you scream and cry about it a little more?  I would enjoy that.

MIT nerds? Those women sounded fat and ugly.

Band SHOULD have read, "That dress would look better on someone else."

Theaetetus: sno man: If the first one was "Nice jeans, they'd look great on my floor" would this still have been an issue?

It still sexualizes a conference that has nothing to do with sex. How about saving that shiat for the annual adult film expo?

Oh give it a farking rest, and pull the stick out of your ass.

It wasn't AT THE CONFERENCE, it was at a venue in Austin.  The VENUE provided the wrist bands, apparently without having checked with anyone from MIT.

Also, this particular conference has more than a little bit of sexualization going already... or are you too brain dead to realize that?  OH, I know, you've never been to a real conference.  Scared of crowds?

Furthermore,  WE ARE TALKING ABOUT CHEESY PICK UP LINES.  Have a bit of perspective, PICK UP LINES.  In fact, pick up lines SO BAD, they are considered JOKES by almost everyone.

Please, seriously, just shut the fark up already.

Spoken like a true liberal christian queer, of course you hate me with no true frame of reference,  everything you are proud of and/or believe in truly disgust me, but you continue to feel superior to me if it helps you maintain that shroud of denial you've wrapped yourself in

Theaetetus: Marcintosh: I don't mind the offense and put it near the commercials that make men out to be complete nincompoops when it comes to domestic life. I find those to be offensive and perpetuation of a stereotype.

First question: are the owners of advertising agencies and household goods manufacturers primarily male or female?
Second question: are the men made out to be complete nincompoops  overall, or complete nincompoops solely when it comes to domestic life?
"Gosh, honey, I can't help myself from breaking plates when I do the dishes, making a mess by running the blender without a lid when I make dinner, and shredding your underwear when I do laundry. I guess you'll have to do all of those chores, while I go have a fulfilling and rewarding career outside the home as well as a rich social life with my colleagues and friends."
I don't think those ads are really denigrating men as much as you think.

Yes, if only I had someone who'd pay for my upkeep while I had all the time I wanted for my hobbies. Sure, I'd love to do chores (barely 2 hours a day) while she'd work 8 hours + commute. Then I have 5+ (Not counting the evening when I can claim that it is unfair that I have to do all the chores and blackmail her into doing the dishes and looking after the kids for a bit by withholding sex) hours left to do whatever. Even kids are only a drain on my free time for the first few years. Then they go to school for 6 to 7 hours and after that they are old enough that they'll mostly take care of themselves. Plus I can make them do some chores I dislike most. Social life with friends? While/after working 8 hours and commuting? Having 5+ hours of free time a day is the far superior option. And let us not forget about the weekends, having looked after the kids and the house for the entire week I'm entitled to some me time (with the guys).

Millenia of evolution requires you to believe a conference can pass out wristbands making unrelated, sexist, and frankly lame jokes without garnering any negative attention otherwise you'll feel like a pussy being forced to ignore the fact he has a sexual orientation?

Just commenting that the women don't have/had it quite as bad as people like to claim. Especially as it relates to the following part of the quoted comment: "I guess you'll have to do all of those chores, while I go have a fulfilling and rewarding career outside the home as well as a rich social life with my colleagues and friends."

If you can't manage the chores and a fulfilling and rich social life with all the available free time you have compared to a full work week you are doing something wrong.
