Well, these nerds are never going to survive in a real bar situation.

If the first one was "Nice jeans, they'd look great on my floor" would this still have been an issue?

It still sexualizes a conference that has nothing to do with sex. How about saving that shiat for the annual adult film expo?

Don't hate. Lord Thorn is now a very successful coroner.

Apparently the joke wasn't these were cheesy pickup lines of a bygone era and they're ironically funny, but "Her herr were making fun of women".

Which doesn't make any sense considering the source and the suggested audience.

In no way do I condone the MIT Media Lab.

I do, however, condone and support naked women.

The party was co-hosted by the Knight Foundation and Mozilla - why aren't they taking any flak for this? Also, it clearly says the wristbands were handed out by the club where the party was hosted, and that they had nothing to do with the Media Lab. Why isn't the club getting any crap for handing them out?

Not saying the Media Lab doesn't bear any responsibility, but it does seem like they're being scapegoated just a tad.

MIT media lab? They'll always take the bicycle, because the clothes wouldn't have fitted.

Maybe they were promoting gynecological health, similar to these from a breast cancer research foundation.

You know, like "hey baby, why don't you take off those pants/dress so I can check you for cervical cancer."

What do the haters have against womyn's health? Damned sexists.

Heh.  I think the Media Lab Director (or whatever he's called) had to make the statements for the uptight parents, not for the students or applicants...

/heard many of the wifey's stories about Steer Roast and parties at Senior Haus.
//yes, it really was similar to the antics in in the dorms in movies like "Real Genius"

ok, I don't think these should be offensive to anybody, but why females specifically?
/ or "female professionals" even more specifically.  Unemployed females don't have cause to be offended?

So although my genetics and DNA dictate I must be sexually attracted to women because of their figures and looks I'm supposed to ignore those millenia of evolution because some people find it offensive?

The pussification of the North American male continues unabated.

Good point, although it would be fair to say 'dress' is a little gender loaded through history.

here here.
It's cheezy bar talk at worst, at best it's a stupid attempt at humor.  Let it go and make me a sammich dammit.

The Captain announces to the passengers that the plane is going to crash.
A woman stands and screams " Is there a man here that can make me feel like a woman before we die?"
A man stands, begins to walk to her, rips off his shirt and says "Here, IRON THIS"

Offensive?  Depends.  If you, like me, feel that this attempt at humor points out the ignorance of some men then, no, it's not offensive.
If however you feel that the attempt at humor was made at the expense of women then yes, it is offensive.
I don't mind the offense and put it near the commercials that make men out to be complete nincompoops when it comes to domestic life. I find those to be offensive and perpetuation of a stereotype.  That is a simple fix though.  I don't buy those products when I shop for the family.

First question: are the owners of advertising agencies and household goods manufacturers primarily male or female?
Second question: are the men made out to be complete nincompoops  overall, or complete nincompoops solely when it comes to domestic life?
"Gosh, honey, I can't help myself from breaking plates when I do the dishes, making a mess by running the blender without a lid when I make dinner, and shredding your underwear when I do laundry. I guess you'll have to do all of those chores, while I go have a fulfilling and rewarding career outside the home as well as a rich social life with my colleagues and friends."
I don't think those ads are really denigrating men as much as you think.

These nerds clearly need all the help they can get when it comes to picking up chicks. I say let them have the glimmer of hope these wristbands provide. After all, we need more smart people in the world, not less.

I was thinking if it was "genes" that might be a doofy MIT nerd twist.  But on thinking about it, it implies "I want to club you with a shovel and drag you bleeding back to my apartment", so I guess no.
