Oh, look, it's *this* thread again, where the obese fans of bad music get to feel superior to somebody who dare not eat they way they eat.

You mean the one where the celebrity who demands tolerance for his lifestyle but is incredibly intolerant of anyone else's has a turn of bad fortune and farkers make fun of him?

I'd never even heard of this guy until a few weeks ago when he demanded a venue at which he was playing conformed to his personal dietary habits.  So I guess that's one way to get your name out there.

You know, a well balanced diet (including protein, iron, and calcium) does wonders for the immune system. You elitist vegan prick.

For somebody espousing a supposedly superior, healthier lifestyle, Morrissey seems to spend a lot of time as an inpatient.

You know, I really hate to be "that person," but I'm in the same boat as you.  Prior to the venue conflict, I had no idea who he was.  All I learned from Google was he has a stupid haircut, and he was in a British band in the 80's that I've never heard of...and he looks like a smug prick in his Wikipedia photo.

Back in the 90's, the pre-emo kids had his t-shirts and he was mocked on Beavis & Butt-Head, and that's all I knew about him, and definitely all I WANTED to know about him.  Glad to see I wasn't far off.

He's not going to sleep with you dude.

I actually like a lot of his music but as others have noted he preaches tolerance while being an intolerant douche. None of this is unusual, sometimes I think you have to be a douche in some area to be a talented musician.

It's totally different.  Hitler didn't spend entire concerts and tons of print ink discussing why his mustache was the only mustache that anyone should have, and that anyone who disagreed with him is evil and should be restrained and forcibly shaved.

His dietary choice is an attacking point because he is very vocally judgemental of people who are not vegan/vegetarian. The Smiths have an album called "Meat is Murder", for chrissakes. The man walked off stage at Coachella because he could smell cooking meat. He does ads for PETA. He's an uberdouche that insists on making his extreme opinions about vegetarianism and animal rights known, which also opens himself up to ridicule. So, your point is sort of irrelavent, as Hitler did not call out people who didn't have a toothbrush moustache and call them murderers.

Plus, Hitler's moustache is the only awesome thing about Hitler. He rocked that shiat like no one else.

Morrissey was also supposed to appear on Jimmy Kimmel's show a couple weeks ago, but refused to do the show because one of the other guests was from that Duck Dynasty show. Morrissey referred to the Duck dude as an "animal serial killer" and said he would only be on the show if the Duck guy was removed as a guest.

FTFA: "Questions about the state of his health prompted him to release a statement to his fans: 'The reports of my death have been greatly understated. Once admitted to the at Royal Oak in Michigan, I received treatment for concussion, a bleeding ulcer, and Barrett's esophagus. The positive from all of this is that there are now no known ailments left for me to try.' "

Gotta admit, I found this humorous on his part.

Wouldn't hang with the dude, but love his music.

I love Marr's work with Moz more that either of their individual output, but there is no question Moz achieved more solo than Marr did. And since they pretty much invented emo, before there was emo, is it fair to use that label?

As for his talent or lack of it, he was a completely self-taught vocalist who, as anyone who has seen him live can attest, has terrific pipes and stage presence. Take a look at any of the earliest smiths performances on youtube - they had their first songs perfectly realized from almost the instant they met.

Straight emotionally stable carnivores for Moz unite!

Like other Farkers ITFT, I probably wouldn't want to hang out with him either, but I've been a big fan ever since the earliest days of The Smiths.

I would follow a reunited Smiths/Stone Roses alternately-headlining tour for many, many US dates.

Sorry but the Cure was around emoing it up before The Smiths.  And I would even go gas far as Don Mclean.

He's not a musician.  He's a lame monotone crooner who may dabble on an instrument to write a new tune.

His band members are the musicians.

I have always hated this self-important prick.  I have a theory that he doesn't even like music.  I can't imagine him actually being moved by a piece of music or even enjoying it.  He doesn't seem to enjoy anything and his fans seem to love that about him.  He is a dour, self-aggrandizing pseudo-poet who can turn a clever phrase and then sing it in an unbearably maudlin and schmaltzy style.

Just completely unlistenable crap.  One of those bands I instantly turn off if they come on the radio, which thankfully is not very often.

I hope he is told his antibiotics were tested on animals, even if they weren't.

I guess Morrissey doesn't remember the wisdom of these lyrics:

But still I'd rather be famous
Than righteous or holy
Any day any day any day now

I think this might have made the old Fark music thread explode:

cdn.idolator.com

The song is being re-released with the new cover, I think that song is the last quality thing Moz did, after Stephen Street left/was fired/got fed up it was rapidly downhill for Moz' stuff for me.

It's hard to argue with a gut dislike for the style of a musician. But, the facts are that Marr wrote cord progressions and riffs, took them to the band, and laid them down. Then Moz came in, matched a lyric to the piece, and composed a melody, completely in isolation. If that isn't musicianship, then fark all is.

Eh, people just give him a hard time because they must feel bad on some level for eating meat. Otherwise, why the fark should they care? There are lots of people like him. I see it all the time. Once a vegan makes the mistake of letting it be known that he/she's a vegan, suddenly talking about animal roasts suddenly becomes HILARIOUS. You can let them know you think their lame jokes are lame-o and they can stop, now, but they'll keep doling them out. Why? There are many "passionate" cyclists, for example, who never stop reminding others that driving a car is stupid and wasteful and unhealthy compared to cycling or walking; there are many yoga nuts that preach about the wonders of yoga; there are lots of fitness nuts who shun flabby and/or obese people, but I haven't ever heard of any of these being called "fascists" and they don't seem to piss people off as much as vegans do. I can't fault people for being passionate about anything, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. Stating their preferences doesn't hurt me, neither do attempts me to convert me to try line dancing. It's your choice to go along with the herd in terms of the food you eat, but regardless of how smug or whatever Morrissey can be about it, I can't understand being so angry about an outspoken person's veganism that you'd want to send him a bacon gift when he's unwell in the hospital. That's pretty farked up.
