WTF Indeed: A pirate drama.....and NBC wonders why they get beat in the ratings by PBS.

This could be awesome.  It probably won't be, but it could.

And while I didn't like Pirates of the Caribbean:  Mermaids and shiat, Ian Mcshane makes a damn good Blackbeard.

I would have preferred Hugh Laurie, which was the rumor for many months until now.

2013-03-11 09:00:35 PM
He was great in that jewel thief movie.

Hey Malkovich, think fast!

Gotta love those little moments where the extras are drunk and get belligerent.

It got the guy a SAG card though.

Horatio Hornblower as a weekly series would be awesome. The old miniseries was enjoyable enough.

Laurie needs to do a comic role now. It's been too long.

Or the next Doctor.

He's three times as old as Blackbeard was when he died.

Pass.

One line and improvising.  That's fair.

Could be worse. Could be on ABC. Then it would be cancelled after the 2nd episode.

They wanted to use that scene and to have a speaking part in a movie, to my understanding, you have to have a SAG card.
/Saw some show about the making of that movie.

Color me doubtful. There's a reason period naval adventure doesn't get made much anymore. Unless they are going to forgo the actual "ships fighting on the high seas" part, I see no way to do this on a TV budget.

A kid I knew in high school had a line that was cut from Remember the Titans. He didn't get a SAG card, but he did get $800.

It was filmed at my school, most of the extras were DHHS students.

Hornblower did it 10 years ago on the BBC's budget.

Loved Hornblower, but would LOVE to see Master and Commander as a series.  Their stories had more ebb and flow, and were much funnier.

I second this notion, a Master and Commander series has a lot of potential. it is a shame they blew the entire wad on that movie.

It will start off well and then it may change nights, then after airing ten episodes will be off the air for 4-6 months and they will restart with no marathon or recap and hope people still give a damn and then cancel it leaving another incomplete story arc

Hell, even Bolitho or Ramage or Dewey whatever. Bolitho would be perfect and most likely comes without the rabid fanbase of the O'Brian books howling for blood when you change up a plot point.

My high school was one of the teams that was "portrayed" in that movie.  We were all superpissed that they went and filmed the thing in Georgia, when they could have easily filmed it all where it actually took place. It's not like high schools die and you have to hire lookalikes to play them decades later.

NBC can never make a good pirate drama because they can't make one that's rated aaarrrggghhh.

NO, but that was when Georgia started offering tax incentives to film here.  Seems to have worked,  Walking Dead, Vampire Diaries, Anchorman 2, I think Hunger Games 2 are all filming here currently.

I haven't read Republic of Pirates yet (what this is based on), but Colin Woodard's  American Nations was an awesome read. Should be a pretty neat series.
