He's still no less electable in similar constituencies.  Proven time and time again.

Mrbogey: detroitdoesntsuckthatbad: The one day I was onsite doing some consulting and couldn't get to Fark... Grrrrrrrrr.  The sad thing is this will do nothing to stop the pay for play attitude among the rest of the elected officials in Wayne county or the blatant us-vs-them racism from the south side of 8 mile.  Detroit is a city designed for 1.8 million but populated with less than 700,000 who all would rather cut off their nose to spite their face.

/fark that guy right in his cornhole.
//but it's foolish to think corruption in the area ended today

CSB: I met an AT&T tech who worked in the city. They had one of their larger aerial cables cut down and sold for scrap. The cable was behind an apartment complex and it took them a day and a half to get the new one in there and replaced. When they were done they went back to the office to sign out for the day.  As soon as they got back in, their supervisor sent them back out to check on it because reports of outages were coming back in. Yup... someone stole the brand new cable they just put up.

He was tired of working in Michigan and particularly Detroit and asked me a lot about Southeast Louisiana. He liked the time he spent down here and wanted to get as far away as he could from Detroit despite having lived there all his life. Parts of New Orleans are bad... but they're nothing like what I see and here out of Detroit. At least our abandoned neighborhoods have a reason.

Fun fact: in Detroit when you drive around you often see a 50gal drum sitting in the middle of an alley. So many that there's no way it's a coincidence. When you actually look in them you see black soot. They're all used to burn off insulation from wire scrapped from houses. Once you start looking for them, you realize they're everywhere.

Onkel Buck: StreetlightInTheGhetto: Mattoon: Remember when Democrat Anthony Weiner was mistakenly identified by Newsweek as a Republican?  Since it was a sex scandal, they should have known it was the Party of Clintons.  I agree with previous comments that any reported scandal involving a Democrat seems to omit the term "Democrat".

STFU Donnie.  He was a Detroit mayor.  Every goddamn person in the country can figure out it was a Democrat.

Wouldn't that be racist of them though?

I actually wasn't thinking the "majority African American" angle; I was thinking along the lines of every damn Detroit thread where someone mentions 'look what happens when Democrats are in charge for years LOL".

It's *far* more prevalent on the far east side of 8 mile.  Not entirely sure why that would be.

/grew up playing softball and being babysat by one grandma or another on either side of the divide
//Warren and Detroit sides respectively
///Still totally exists but there's plenty of blame on the north of 8 mile white side, historically speaking - there used to be an *actual wall* along part of 8 mile.  West side.  Young didn't make anything better, though.
////SO took a pretty awesome neighborhoods of Detroit history class. IIRC part of that wall still stands.

Onkel Buck: megarian: OgreMagi: megarian: Ah. This is all over the news here in the D interrupting regularly scheduled programming and now NO ONE is going to be able to watch Judge Mathis.

shiat just got real.

Why are you still in Detroit?  Seriously.  I'm beginning to question your intelligence.

I actually have a really good job.

And I spend a lot of time up north :)

Where at? I used to canoing in Atlanta and Lewiston

Torch Lake, mostly. Also Witefish Point. But Paradise (real name of a city in the UP) is interesting, too. We go to the Painted Rocks in the summer. So pretty.

Melvin Lovecraft: Couldn't have happened to a more deserving fellow.  And 98K514 is right.  Given the chance, Detroiters would elect him again.

/guy's a shiatstain
//hope they throw the book at him

I'm not so sure about that.  There's a small number of extremely ignorant (ignant, as they say in Detroit) people who will never believe he did anything wrong, because he was the Hip Hop Mayor.  Detroit is getting better, though.

Judge Mathis is from The D  and friends with Kwame. Probably all kinds of mixed emotions up there today on the part of TV viewers

If anything is going to start a riot, this will.

Good thing that it's raining. It makes some parts of Detroit slightly less flammable.

Slightly.

It can't rain all the time...

Popcorn Johnny: OscarTamerz: When the FARK are they going to try him or one of his cronies for that murdered hooker?  Given their general incompetence they are probably still using the damned gun as a service weapon so all the Feds would have to do is match the bullet and get the shooter cop to roll over on whoever might have contracted the hit.  I know solving murders is not the Detroit way but it might just start a trend.

As much as I'd like that to be true, there just isn't any evidence that it ever happened. They don't even have solid witnesses that there was ever even a party at the mansion.

Snitches get stitches.

/Detroit politics. I bet white people made Kwame do it.

LOLWUT??

HillshirefarmsGOMEAT: Why am I surprised at this? Ol racist Michigan never wanted this family in power in Detroit. They took Carolyn Cheeks-Kilpatrick through the ringer (his mom) when she was in Detroit politics and now her son is in office (was in office) and they come after him too. Really? 20 years in prison for getting yoga lessons, paying for tuition and going on vacation? Is this not the lives of half of middle-income America? And he had tailored suits! OH, the humanity! This was overkill to teach him a lesson. Don't be black and in power in Michigan.

Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points....
Stealing money from the city you run = street cred??
I hope GOMEAT is Kwame's new nickname in prison.

3StratMan: Stone Meadow: barneyfifesbullet: Missing from the article, the word Democrat. That figures.

You forgot "black".

I mean, if you're going to go full derp you need to complete the picture.

Oh, so if it was a Republican politician that got the conviction the Farklibs would be all giddy, going on and on about the supposed typical Republican behavior, but since "Democrat' is mentioned, it's derp.

And then I remembered- in Farkland, Democrats are holier than thou, have never done a damn thing wrong in their lives, and are 100% truthful and on the up and up at all times, while Republicans are all corrupt, scum of the earth closet homophobic homosexual liars who all need to die in a fire.

So basically my first sentence was a waste of time.

Corruption doesn't distinguish between political parties. But Detroit always votes for Democratic mayors (hint: Republicans don't run for office there). Some have been good, like Archer and (somewhat) Bing, others have been corrupt like Young and Kilpatrick. Nice try, though.

WhoopAssWayne: Typical corrupt scumbag democrat. Almost every presidential scandal happens in the second term. Obama, from the Chicago school of corruption, is next. And no matter what he eventually gets caught for, the fark liberals will be there to bend over and take one for the team, right in the cornhole.

Nice to see you showed up with your usual derp. Carry on.
