He's the mayor of a bankrupt, corrupt city.  Kind of goes without saying.  Any Republican voters fled a long time ago.

A standard in reporting these days is to state the party affiliation in the headline if it's a republican.  For a democrat, if they bother to mention the party it will be in the last paragraph.  I've gotten into the habit of assuming democrat if the news article doesn't make it obvious right from the start.  I've yet to be wrong.

I don't really think that's true, unless you're dealing with an obviously partisan media outlet.

This was overkill to teach him a lesson. Don't be black and in power in Michigan.

FTA:
"That was one of the main themes in the government's nearly five-month trial, which featured a mountain of evidence that included 80 government witnesses, scores of bank records, contract agreements, text messages and secret video and audio recordings."

Oh goody...we've reached the delusional and stupid "I can out hyperbole you" part of any "FARK Detroit thread."

For example, could you have had a 10,000 person 5K run in downtown Baghdad like was held in Detroit (Corktown) yesterday?  No, then STFU, you are an idiot.

Next will come the "it's because of racism" part of the thread...then followed by 500 memes and "nuke it from orbit" comments, then the next days' news.

Rinse and repeat FARK, rinse and repeat.

To be fair, letting the National Guard practice various things (ending with demolition) in some of the abandoned areas would probably help.  They get urban warfare practice, the city gets rid of some of it's crack houses.

We did that about ten years back with Dayton, Ohio, where parts of the west edge of the city were enough of a match for Baghdad that the Marines ran their urban warfare drills here.  Sadly, they did not in fact demolish, raze, clear out, or "liberate for teh freeeeedomz" any of the crack houses.  But at least the practice drills were beneficial.

Exactly. If there is no mention of the person's party affiliation the default assumption is that it is a Democrat. Since starting  this - three years ago - I have never been wrong.

And yet there is no media 'bias' in reporting.

Corruption has become such a way of life in Detroit from top to bottom, private sector as well as public, that Kwame, being a relatively young man, just thought everybody knew about it and understood it.  It could well be that he does not truly understand that normal cities aren't that openly corrupt.

You absolutely could run a 10,000 person 5K run in downtown Baghdad.  Most runners might even perform better there, since there you get the endorphin rush of a runners high mixed with the adrenaline of screams and explosions!

Best yet, most of the runners would probably make it over the finish line, one way or another.

But whatevs - It takes me 22 minutes to get to work and I can see Canada from my desk (...and a live bat exhibit Thursday at the RenCen's Wintergarden).  When it gets a little warmer, it'll be lunch on the RiverWalk.  I'd rather work down here than in an industrial park staring at black top and weeds all day.

If anything is going to start a riot, this will.

Good thing that it's raining. It makes some parts of Detroit slightly less flammable.

At least we have some entertainment on the news for a few days. I already got out my binoculars, firearm, and marshmallows. I had to bring the beer off the deck because of the warmish weather. I'm ready.

The current mayor is too liberal for my taste but seems honest and is trying to do a gpod job. The same was true of the lady in office before him. Atlanta's problem is the writhing nest of maggots that make up the city and county governments and school systems. They make the UN seem ethical.
