It doesn't name DRM explicitly (probably why I got the greenlight - inaccurate headline), just a general rant against the type of crap EA Games and Disney pulls, but wrapped up as a cute little story about a toy maker.  Please note this isn't my day job, just a hobby.

Cute animation, tho.

I did abuse LBP2 and LBP Karting to make the video.  Not the music obviously, that was all from scratch.  The music came first and everything else was made to fit it, which is utterly backwards on how this sort of thing should be done.

You're right, it was more of a mental rant that started it all, mostly from reading Fark threads.  Obviously when the narration was shoehorned in we weren't going to come out and be that obvious about it since it was pretending to be for kids anyhoo.  The writing was tweaked and added to heavily by the narrator which made it less rant-y.

... a video about copyright abuse.

When you're going to wave a giant red flag at the angry corporate bull, it's a good idea to make sure that your feet aren't nailed to the floor.

Felgraf: Mmmm, I dunno. Was Red vs. Blue violating Bungie's copyrite?

Bungie explicitly gave them permission, so no. If they hadn't, then yeah, probably.

If I make something in MS paint, am I violating MS paint's copyright?

If you copy MS Paint, then yes, you are. If you make something in MS Paint, no, as (i) your original work is not a copy of theirs, and (ii) the copy of the software that you do make - from the hard drive into RAM - is explicitly allowed under both your license and the copyright act.

Which is what I did.  They include the developers tools within the game so you can make your own games including cutscenes and whatnot... anyone who has ever playedeither of the 2 games used could tell you in an instant that what I did was "drawn" 100% custom, including importing artwork.

The whole thing is made with LittleBigPlanet and LittleBigPlanetKarting.  It's somewhat ironic that those are Sony games locked up tighter than a bank vault and have the most paid dlc and micro transactions...which this guy seems to own just about all of.

No DLC in there, just the two base games. But I laughed about that very irony myself quite often while I made it.  For me the important bit was the music - the rest is just icing on the cake.

No DLC?  Clearly, I need to win more items.  Aside from subject matter, that work would really get noticed in-game...really good job there

Two different situations.  Red vs. Blue used Bungie's copyrighted art assets.

I didn't watch most of it. I know you weren't going for green so you may not care but I think the video would be more watchable without the chapters. Also maybe it's just my phone but the sound seemed painfully tinny.

Hmm, you might be right on the 'chapters' thing.  Video is a relatively new thing for me, still learning.  On the sound I never tested it on a phone (or did a mono mix - oops)

Hey thanks.  As said, vid is new to me and I pretend to be a 'director' even less than I pretend to know what I'm doing with the goofy music.  But then for me any excuse to gargle in stereo and use 4 tracks of kazoo...

It wasn't bad, but holy schnit was that a lot of padding for no reason. A good story has pacing and timing and that thing was so far off it made me cringe. Long stretches of no narration with duplicate shots (or the same shot from a lightly different angle) just leaves your audience begging you to get on with it.

Jesus.  TL:DW.  I got through about 5 minutes of that and wandered off.

As for DRM, I don't want it in the material that I purchase.  Period.  I didn't buy ebooks until I had a way to strip the DRM so I'll be able to access the content on any device for as long as I manage to hang onto it.  I rip all of my movies to a 26tb fault tolerant array and play them back in whatever manner I choose without DRM telling me I can't put a copy on my tablet or my laptop when I go on vacation.

I don't mind DRM on the content that I rent or borrow as long as it works.  Until recently, I've been borrowing ebooks and audiobooks from my local library and it's been great.  Unfortunately, my installation of Overdrive Media Console shiat the bed and I can't borrow audiobooks anymore.  It took the library days to respond to my request for help and all they did is pass my inquiry along to Overdrive (who doesn't support their software directly).  Still waiting for help.  Of course, I could easily obtain a pirated copy of the book I want to borrow but I'm trying real hard, Ringo.  I'm trying to be legit.  DRM isn't stopping people from getting pirated copies of the material.  It's stopping me from borrowing a legitimately licensed copy.

DRM and anti-circumvention is DMCA related. IP law. Patent trolls are the same. The narrative here is that ideas are being tied, locked, and gagged by people and corporations. Hence why Trademark, Copyright, and Patent seem to be so tied at the hip. They all stem from the concept of owning concepts and restricting the actions of other actors in the marketplace through Government Action.

Made it to about 5 minutes. Attention span had nothing to do with it, it was the fact that every 10 seconds of dialogue was followed up by 30 seconds of animation and music. If you had a point to make, you should have gotten to it faster. I'm not going to waste 17 minutes of my time to listen to something you could have said in 3.

I didn't record the vocals myself since the narrator lives on the opposite end of the country from me, but we're both hobbyists, so compromise is always part of the equation, especially when you're married and talking about hanging up bass traps in the 'guest room'...

And others mentioned the pacing, yeah I certainly can see that, but since this was my first attempt ever at a movie-ish thing and since the narration and video were made to fit the music instead of the other way around... well I can live with it being less than a commercially polished product.  Thank you to EVERYONE who made it through all 17 minutes (and 5 seconds, lol).
