dittybopper: Parthenogenetic: dittybopper: he was arrested while chanting 'doh, ray, me, soh' which he believed would protect him from aliens

Dumbass.  It goes like this:

Sol La Fa
                 Fa Do

I thought it was Re Mi Do Do So

I looked it up on IMDB:

To get the spaceships' attention prior to their arrival at Devils Tower, the five notes the scientists play are G, A, F, (octave lower) F, C. When they arrive at the tower and are attempting communication, the notes they play are B flat, C, A flat, (octave lower) A flat, E flat.

Then I went to the Wikipedia page on Solfege and translated the notes. I used the G A F F C sequence.

Without context, both are correct. You could also say it's Ri Fa Di Di Si, or any other funky translation of the sequence.

I prefer Re Mi Do Do Sol myself. Only n00bs assume it's in the key of C.

When you know the notes to sing,
You can avoid all alien things.

If only he had the right to carry a firearm, none of this would have happened.

/Doh!

There's definitely something in our lowest-level programming that leads to mantras... Especially as involve the pentatonic scale... as Bobby McFerrin will attest..

Don't get me started on "Our Fathers", "Hail Mary full of Grace," or "Om mane padme hum."

"In my judgment that would be a very grave risk and only when the authorities are satisfied that your illness has been addressed and managed will it be proper for you to drive again.

Nope - no cure for mental illness so court is -1

"You are also a danger to the police because when you are ill you view them with great distaste and suspicion and there have been a number of instances of tension between you and the police.

Judge has a sense of history +1

"Your record and offending justify custody but the public interest is not best served by sending you to prison so I am making an order which ensures you will receive treatment for your illness."

In a stunning maneuver judge pulls it out for teh win +2, for a grand total of +3

F is not Fa if the music is in the key of F.  It's Do.

There is something called 'Fixed DO' Solfeggio where the note C is do, no matter what key you're actually playing in.   If you're in the Key of F, playing this melody,  G-A-F-F-C, fixed do solfeggio would give SO-LA-FA-FA-DO. OTOH, putting the tonic note as Do ('moveable Do solfeggio') would give RE-MI-DO-DO-SO.  Same exact melody in same exact key!

In Close Encounters, the Kodaly hand symbols used clearly indicate that they are NOT using 'fixed do' as the sequence of hand signals is always given as RE-MI-DO-DO-SO no matter what key the melody is played in.

As a tympanist for over 40 years I often played pieces where the tunings of the drums was given in Fixed  Do Solfeggio.  e.g. a Mozart Symphony in D major would require the notes D (tonic) and A (dominant) for the two drums but my music would say "Tympani in Re-La".......

Confused yet?  Try modes!

/For homework, using fixed do solfeggio, what would C-D-Bb-Bb-F become?
