Last week, Sen. Chris Murphy couldn't get the new will.i.am and Britney Spears song "Scream & Shout" out of his head.

So that's what's passing as cool now?

Just out of curiosity, why is this tagged with "Vice President Joe Biden"?

"I'm very careful not to try to use lingo that's above my coolness pay grade"

Sounds like his coolness pay grade equates to entry level.

Determinations about who is too hip fall under Biden's authority as Senate President.

Ironically the word "lingo" is some rather uncool lingo.

He sounds pretty melvin to me, actually.

That's a pretty goofy article, but I have to agree with him about that damn song.

Bring the action oontz oontz oontz.

It remains to be determined whether the Senate's youngest members will be able to channel a shared appreciation for overdone fads like the "Harlem Shake" into a collaborative push toward policy changes.

I think I figured out why that stupid fad annoys me so much. It's not so much that it's overdone, it's that it's one of those things that doesn't take a whole lot of wit or cleverness or thought to do -- just wear a dumb costume and wiggle, and someone's bound to think it's full of instant funny. Maybe it's the same reason other people love them so much.

"Whenever I talk about Biden, my 4-year-old son still says, 'Oh, that funny vice president!'" Murphy said.

Don't we all, kid, don't we all...

Wow, shiat, that guy and I are the same age. And yet he seems so much more like a REAL ADULT.©

WTF.

There are some things that, if you don't know them, can't be explained to you by someone else.

Hm, I think I get it. Thanks for the explanation!

Murphy paused and looked up at the ceiling as he tried to settle on an appropriate musical artist. "I'm trying to pick which - I'm not going to say Nick Lachey." He giggled, seemingly in on the joke, then relented. "And Nick Lachey as a legitimate mainstream pop artist."

WTF is this shiat? Stay out of it, Nick Lachey.

"If regular people are talking about food and parenting and music and sports, then I think it's appropriate but also probably important that their elected officials talk about the same things too."

There's a difference between being relatable, and blatantly pandering. This dude seems to be veering towards the latter.

It remains to be determined whether the Senate's youngest members will be able to channel a shared appreciation for overdone fads like the "Harlem Shake" into a collaborative push toward policy changes.

Seriously, WTF is this shiat? I hate you, Buzzfeed.

Because the unit of measurement for coolness is the Biden, where Biden is eleven and zero is Romney. Onion Biden is over 9000.

The funny part is the setup. Shows dozens to hundreds of people doing normal things, and then it cuts to them all dancing. Sure, you already know the "punchline"... so it's kind of like an interpretive dance version of the aristocrats joke.

Damn it, I can 't read Chris Murphy's name without seeing that unflattering picture of him that Linda McMahon stuffed in my mailbox every day for 6 months.  I've been programmed.  Damn you Linda!!!

The Biden Scale is not absolute. Romney actually has a negative score, but we have yet to perfect an instrument that will survive his pervasive non-coolness long enough to send back a reading.

The only analogy masters agree that most closely explains this fact is so inadequate that explaining it to non-masters only leads to false-thinking among the unknowing.  I'm sorry, but this is how it is.

Dude, young people don't vote. Even the ones who can can't be bothered in high enough percentages to make it worth your while to try and be a 39 year-old man sadly trying to relate to them.

Wait, this guy is supposed to be hip?

s3-ec.buzzfed.com

No matter how much I try to resist, every time I hear the will.i.am/Britney song, I like it more.

We're supposed to believe this guy likes will.i.am and Britney?  This guy is cool and hip?  This is what's wrong with our country.  Voters want cool and hip, not smart and nerdy.  Who the fark is that Fartbama guy, he's so "professorial."  We want a guy who likes will.i.am.

Because "Vice President Joe Biden" is the kind of fresh, hip, happening reference that kids today are all grooving to. You dig?

If you're a senator, you don't have a coolness pay grade.

///sad that people in positions like that even think about being cool
//told Raoul Jr. the other day, "I have no expectation of ever caring about being cool"
/not a senator

Murphy doesn't need to be cool.  He's the rare politician who seems authentic and seems to care about people and doing the right thing.  I was happy to vote for him.

I always choose to turn the radio off and listen to my transmission continue to eat itself rather than let Scream and Shout play. This guy loses my vote just for that reference.

I thought it was hip to be square.  Has Huey Louis betrayed me?
