The other thing that kinda makes me wonder is why Rick thinks they have to kill this guy as some retaliation for what he did to Maggie and Glen. Merle did most of the whooping on Glen and he's in the group now, so why the blood vendetta against the Gov over groping Maggie? Hello, apocalypse going on, do you really want to engage in a gunfight with some of the last remaining human beings because he copped a feel? Seems like an overreaction to me, particularly since you'll be putting everyone's lives at risk including your baby and son.

...

The Gov killed Axel and broke down the gate w/ the zombie loaded ice cream truck.  As for Merle, they seem to have given him a "just following orders" pass and passed the blame on to the Gov.

I don't know if he's been given a 'pass', per se...I think we're going to see some of Merle's aggression play out in the next couple of episodes. Noboy in the group buys that he's safe, but the enemy of my enemy is my friend, especially when vetted by Daryl. I think Michonne has her eye on him, anyway. She would've run him through during that scuffle, but she needs to be in the group as much as he does.

Kornchex: Would you pick up a stranger that close to Woodbury?  The Governor obviously has eyes on the prison.

The backpack could have been a bomb to take out Rick

Digitalstrange: You know the Gov and presumably his closest Lt's will be away 2 days from now at noon. Invade Woodberry in force and eliminate the scrubs who make them numerically superior while their leadership is away. Leave Woodberry burning and get back to the prison and set for the Gov's small invasion force.

That's the Gov plan, get Rick and his best out of the prison on a wild goose. Gov never intends to meet him back there in two days, he'll be using that as a cover for the attack.

Actually I believe they are slowly rehabilitating Merle. When Hershel is telling Rick of the groups mood he mentions Merle and Michone want to go on the offensive. In the argument about Merle's past actions it comes up that he didn't kill Michone when he probably could have. Merle ducks the question. Merle was right about going on the offensive in a few comments in last nights show. He is racist and hard edged but otherwise a pretty straight up guy. He says what he thinks and you always know where he stands.

My suspicion is that he will be instrumental in the upcoming battles and will save someone like Glenn or Michone or Rick, maybe all of them, in a big way.

Ummm, no. His expectation was that Rick and his best would show up to turn over Michone. He ordered his men to take Michone alive but kill everyone else. He then expected that killing the ones left at the prison would be easy. Bascially my idea is turn it on its ear. Eliminate his numerical superiority and his base while he's out looking to ambush their leadership

I really dont want to see that trope play out. I want Merle to cleave closer to the idea that he should stick with the winning team until they're not winning anymore. If he can't switch sides, I think we'll see Merle try to hightail it outta there. There's no point in dying for anyone else, except maybe Daryl. But I see Merle looking at Daryl and going, "Eff this, I'm out, and you should, too!" And Daryl will be all like, "Damn you, brother!" And then Michonne is all like, "He's mine."

Glen might want a piece of him as well. That would be a great scene, just as Merle is thinking about heading out, Glen follows him in to a cell, and beats the living shiat out of him.

serial_crusher: PsyLord: There will always be new zombies. Remember, they are all infected. You don't have to die from a zombie bite to become a zombie. Death from natural or unnatural causes will turn you into one as long as your brain is intact. So even as the older zombies die out, if humans still are dying, more zombies will be made.

Yeah, but if humans were still dying in numbers that large, the group would have encountered a lot more survivors.  Most of those zombies died in the initial outbreak.

/ I figure everybody's poking muscles have gotten a little stronger too, with all that practice.

There's probably plenty more survivors and zombies out there. We've only been in one state for the series after all. I hope their budget will one day allow us to see a really big swarm like them running into a mass of walkers migrating from New York.

Merle will be accidentally bitten on the hand.  They amputate but he still dies of sepsis and Daryl puts him down permanently.  Probably be bitten in the season finale and dies in season 4 opener.

ongbok: kumanoki: redmid17: You beat me to it. When you're overmatched and outgunned, listening under a flag of truce isn't a bad option.

Also- I seriously doubt the Governor has snipers posted around the prison. The shot that took down Axel was the declaration of war. But it's the preception that people are swarming around outside with high-powered rifles is exactly the right tactic to take to keep Rick's group scared and inside. Frankly, the Governor needs to keep his skilled people close to him to train the townies.

He has somebody watching it. Remember when he told Rick that that was a nice haul of guns they got? He knew that they went out and found some guns after the attack.

Yeah, I was wondering how he knew that. Weren't the guns all bagged up? I don't see how a guy with a pair of binoculars spying on the prison would know what was in those duffels.

ObeliskToucher: BATMANATEE: ObeliskToucher: maverickzy: Let me get this straight.  Rick has no problem ignoring that poor kid who was yelling for help.  He has no problem shooting those two guys from New Jersey in the bar.  But shooting a real and credible existential threat to him and everyone he knows?  Nope, that's too much.

Weak.

Remember the comment that Rick makes when he asks Michonne to drive them back to the prison -- "I see things".

He's driving to the town, sees the hitchhiker by the side of the road, and just assumes he's another figment of his imagination. He doesn't say a word (because what if the hitchhiker *is* just another figment), and everyone else is waiting for him to say "stop" (or not).   For the trip back, he admits (only to Michonne) that seeing things isn't such a good thing for a driver -- now that he and Michonne are on good figment-sharing terms.

The look in his face when he sees the body at the side of the road on the way back definitely had some "Huh... guess that one was real" in it.

Except that Carl very clearly saw the hitchhiker too.

Yep, he twisted around in his chair to look back at him... and didn't say a word to Rick ("... everyone else is waiting for him to say "stop" (or not).", as I said.

They must have said something, because they backed up and picked up the guy's backpack.

That's why I'm figuring Hershel won't die...yet.

Merle only lives because his brother is a valued member of the group and they don't want to lose Darryl.  Without Darryl, Merle gets an unceremonious bullet.

What I hate about a lot of this is the amount of characters that won't say that ONE thing that will help people figure things out, just to keep the plot moving.
"what happened to maggie"
"he's a sick man"

wtf...yea let her keep guessing.  what, he fed her worms?  gave her a pedicure?  Judas.

also with the hitchhiker, I like the angle that rick just thought he was seeing something, and no matter how much hiker screamed, michonne or carl didnt' say anything like "what about him?" which of course they would because they've said stuff like that time and again.

I like it more as just a dreaded, silent agreement between the three of them that it "sucks to be him". Just showing how farked things are when even something as simple as giving someone a ride becomes a "better him than us situation" that they will usually no longer risk intervention with.

It makes sense. It seems that they are setting it up so that she leads a revolt at Woodburry, so it would makes sense that the rest of the season is building towards that.

I think it would be awesome if the season ended with a battle that includes the Governor attacking the prison, and Andrea leading a group from Woodburry attacking the governor. Then in the midst of this giant fight they encounter a mega herd  that basically along with the battle, leaves the prison and Woodburry either destroyed or  undefended, and wipes out most of the population of Woodburry.

My wife made fun of me for the longest for reading The Walking Dead. Then when the show came out I got even more grief for watching it. That was anyway until I got her to sit down for a few episodes of season 3. She was hooked and watched it front to back from season 1.

I walked in to our bedroom earlier this year and she had one of the issues from Volume 2 and was reading it. She looked up over the comic at me and said

"Shut up, shut up, I don't want to hear"

Cool story, Bro!

I got my girlfriend caught up on Season 1 right before Season 2 premiered and she was farking HOOKED. She's watched all of the show read the first omnibus of the comic and got "The Rise of the Govenor" for her kindle. Hoping to get her on BSG and GoT next :)
