Very good episode last night.

2013-03-11 09:19:01 AM
I was ready to quit this show for good after this season's absolute atrocity of a premiere, but credit where it's due...these last two episodes have been two of the strongest in the entire series.

2013-03-11 09:52:13 AM
So Andrea told the Governor all about the whole Rick-Shane-Lori paternity thing? They must have some weird pillow talk.

2013-03-11 09:58:14 AM
Let me get this straight.  Rick has no problem ignoring that poor kid who was yelling for help.  He has no problem shooting those two guys from New Jersey in the bar.  But shooting a real and credible existential threat to him and everyone he knows?  Nope, that's too much.

Weak.

Ryan Coleman was behind the writing of this one, great writer all around.

In fact, if I had to guess its almost as if they switched writing crew and direction midway through production. Because though while this season has been great IMHO, much better than 2, the difference between the first half of season 3 and this half are almost night and day.

I was expecting a sniper shot to kill Maggie after she kissed Glenn last night.  Figured that whenever there is an emotional breakthrough, someone's gonna die.

Yeah I expected something to happen also. It's apparent the Gov has spies on them...

I'm guessing the Hague Convention doesn't apply in a zombie apocalypse, but, c'mon, it would still be rude to kill someone under a flag of truce.

Why are the zombies so easy to kill now?  You poke them in the eye and they die.  Why are they even a threat? BORING!

The writing and directing in the meeting was garbage. All of the dialogue sounded like words just said to fill time, and the scenes themselves were disjointed.

Maybe some have been around longer so they have been decaying more?  Also, the group has been killing zombies for a while now and are getting pretty good at it.  It's pretty easy to figure out zombies.  You know their motivation and how they behave.  Now the real threat are other humans.  So just like many of those space movies, you usually don't have to worry about aliens.  They are mostly harmless compared to your psychotic crew members.

I was hoping they'd both lapse into their British accents during those scenes.

CarnySaur: I was hoping they'd both lapse into their British accents during those scenes.

Andrew Lincoln once talked about how he has the same problem that most British actors do when performing in an 'American' accent in that certain words will always trigger their native sound so sometimes script rewrites are done on the fly for dialogue to avoid those trigger words.

For some reason, I thought last night was the season finale, and spent the entire episode waiting for something jaw-dropping to happen.  I'll have to go back and watch it with the right perspective.

It was an excellent episode. Like others, I was expecting something to happen when Glenn and Maggie were having their make-up sex. They seemed to be foreshadowing something. Regardless, makes you long for HBO when Maggie is headed for a sex scene.

Did I hear a baby crying occasionally during the meeting between Rick and the governor?

Also, Darrell aren't you aware of the dangers of smoking? That could seriously mess with your life expectancy.

This.  Too many blank stares and glaring without words.  To be fair, it's not the only show to suffer from this problem.

Compare and contrast to an Aaron Sorkin show.

Real life is chattery, with lots of movement.  TV and movie writers have gotten pretty bad at this.

Considering what everyone has been through and the present dangers of zombies and humans, you'd think they could get somebody else to cover the watch for a bit.  It seems like it would be incredibly easy to ambush the prison at the moment.

Now I just imagine Steven Yeun at every read-through going, "DoMaggie and Glen get naked in this scene?"
"No, Steven." "How about this scene?" "No, Steven."

I heard that Lauren Cohan was on Talking Dead and screamed, "Oh FARK! She's on the Death Couch!"

With that in mind, I would take Maggie and Glenn getting doubletapped by Carl to free up and the actors for the new HBO series, "Lauren and Steven Get Naked Early and Often", as a replacement for "Girls".

Why is it weak? He was there to broker a peace deal, so he sat down an listened to what he had to say. Rick knows that they are tremendously outnumbered, and for all he knew if he would have killed the Governor there none of them would have walked away from the meeting alive, and the Governor's men would have finished the prison off and killed everybody inside.

So shooting him at that moment would have been stupid. Instead walking away and saying you would think about his demands was the smarter thing because know you have time to prepare yourself for the attack that you know is coming.

I'm thinking he has common sense enough to know that if the Governor ends up dead at this meeting, there are probably standing orders for his little ragtag army to level the prison by any means necessary.  Figured he might want to be there to help defend it instead.

Kill the Governor, and what then? Survive the henchmen ready to shoot out Rick's crew? And you think that was ALL of the Governor's people that came with itchy trigger fingers?

Nope, unless Rick wanted everyone to die together, he let him walk.

It'll be interesting how they pull Tyrese in at this point given that the Gov decapitated him in the comics. Maybe they will stretch the Gov into Season 4.

I imagine there was at least one round of "tell me everything you know about this guy".

Could have also been New Black Guy and his group.  They were at the prison during Rick's meltdown.  Stands to reason that somebody might have white nighted for him and explained to them all the good reasons he had for going crazy.

They need to bring back either the testudo or the phalanx. Well I guess a modified testudo since it's not like the zombies are launching arrows or rocks.

Also- I seriously doubt the Governor has snipers posted around the prison. The shot that took down Axel was the declaration of war. But it's the preception that people are swarming around outside with high-powered rifles is exactly the right tactic to take to keep Rick's group scared and inside. Frankly, the Governor needs to keep his skilled people close to him to train the townies.

He has somebody watching it. Remember when he told Rick that that was a nice haul of guns they got? He knew that they went out and found some guns after the attack.

Oh yeah. He did say that.

Also, wouldn't it be great if the Gov used Andrea as a shield to bust into the prison?

Terrible episode, again showing how inferior to the comic this show is.

In the comic Rick has no problem killing the leader of the prison group in cold blood during a zombie attack. In the show, he lets tons of people die, including the backpacker from last week. He knows the Governor is terrible, and the ring leader, that Andrea or puss McGee is 2nd in command and unlikely to lead a retribution. He knows they're going to attack his group anyway, they already DID attack and kill Axel. And yet, he doesn't kill him the first chance he gets.

And why didn't he? So that it kind of makes sense when tons of characters get wiped out in a few weeks because he didn't end it when he could have, and Andrea didn't end it when she should have, because only then will they realize the blatant and obvious truth knocked over their head again and again and again that the governor is a terrible, mashup character of Creed songs played over one another. "I'm evil, but I'm human, but I'm crazy, but I'm loved and justified."

I only watch now in hopes that Rick will die, Daryl will take the lead and the show will be renamed Duck Walking Dynasty.
