(The Daily Dolt)   Paul Ryan concedes the GOP budget numbers are based on the assumption that a unicorn will poop billions of gold coins directly into the Capitol building sometime during FYs 2013-2023: "Well, we believe it should"   (thedailydolt.com) divider line 176

This kind of explains why the Republicans' polling projections were so far off the mark in November.

Gold price crashes, international markets in death spiral, Paul Ryan proclaims victory.

The flaw in their thinking is that unicorns poop rainbows, not gold.

2013-03-11 09:20:44 AM
He then encouraged Republicans everywhere to clap their hands to show they do believe in the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

2013-03-11 09:21:19 AM
More Bizarro World echo chamber nonsense from the GOP... ObamaCare is not going to be repealed.

2013-03-11 09:27:33 AM
And let's not forget this is their "super smart numbers guy and policy wonk".

So, the same budget assumptions that were used to prop up Obamacare.  Interesting.

Imagine that Mitt Romney had decisively defeated Obama in the 2012 election on a platform of tax cuts for the rich and deep cuts to government as the only way to reduce the deficit, dramatically repudiating the President's call for higher taxes on the wealthy, continued implementation of the biggest expansion of the safety net in 60 years, and more government spending to boost the economy.

Then imagine that Democrats in the Senate (the only part of government they controlled) responded to this by proposing to dramatically expand health care and stimulus spending and pay down the deficit only with 100 percent tax hikes - and not a single penny more in spending cuts - and on top of that, then suggested President Romney has failed to sincerely try to find common ground with them. Paul's back to embracing Medicare cuts as well, after expressly campaigning against them to be VP just a few months ago.

This is more math that Republicans do to feel better and study it out and furthermore,

This is not news. Paul's first budget said the same thing.

ObamaCare will not be repealed.  They know it.  They tried 30+ times.  Really, all he is saying here is "If you don't do what we want, the most cooperation you can expect from us is wetting our pants, throwing ourselves on the floor, and having a temper tantrum.  We certainly aren't going to deal with reality unless it is OUR reality."

Once again the Republicans reach their hand out in a spirit of reasonable compromise.

2013-03-11 10:48:11 AM
It is really no different from his previous budget that assumed that massive tax cuts for the rich would result in 10% growth over 10 years per year because Socialism. That has never happened and you can't base a budget on an unproven assumption unless you are using Republican Math.  You can balance anything if you make crazy assumptions.

Can we just get the GOP their ruby slippers already, they can click em together and go back to 1950

Paul Ryan's plan is the logical follow-up to tax cuts for the wealthy: benefit cuts and tax increases for the poor.

If you took a 6 month old dog turd and then rolled it in fresh diarrhea  baked it for 2 hours and then shoved a stick through it and put it in front of a microphone it would still be more likable than Paul Ryan.

In normal times you would be correct.

These are not normal times, and Paul Ryan is seen as a leading intellectual in Conservative circles.

2013-03-11 11:10:01 AM
So being the "numbers guy" in the GOP really just requires you to talk about numbers. No consistency needed, and math hardly matters, just throw out some numbers.

the GOP budget numbers make perfect sense if one simply starts with a set of wildly implausible premises.

That trickle down economics works?
