If I've learned one thing from history, it's that getting a country hooked on drugs is doable and awesome.  How expensive could it be to get enough benzos and opiates in NKorean hands that they start exporting to China, wiping out NK's military ambitons and getting China to mop them up?  Drugs solve everything.

North Korea has said the U.S. mainland is within the range of its long-range missiles, and an army general told a Pyongyang rally last week that the military is ready to fire a long-range nuclear-armed missile to turn Washington into a "sea of fire."

Good.

Don't kid yourself.  All the congresscritters would get to their bunker and keep filibustering each other over whether money should be allocated to help all the poor people whose loved ones were killed.

Don't get your hopes up. NK's ballistic missile technology is so antiquated (based off of old SCUD technology from the 60s) that our anti-ballistic missile Aegis-equipped destroyers and cruisers would likely have no problem shooting anything they launched down. Either way, there wouldn't be a tomorrow in North Korea if they tried that. Probably the easiest way considering how brainwashed, backwards, and isolated that country is.

Aw, geez, North Korea. Light a match or something while you're in there. The smell's starting to drift out around the cracks. Maybe cut back on the kimchee, hey?

Kind of a moot point; their missiles wouldn't even reach Washington or have the accuracy to hit it their intended target.

North Korea is a drag on the entire Southeast Asian economy. Even China is tired of it.

If their delusional military wants a war, they're going to be on the **** eating end of the deal.

I'm just hoping that China doesn't call a lead role on any armed retaliation if NK does something. I could see them 'accidentally' causing a lot of civilian deaths to reduce refugee influx to China.

Actually I believe this makes them officially at war with the entire UN. I wonder if someone told them that the Chinese are not likely to come bail their chestnuts out of the fire this time, as it would disrupt iPhone production and that means more to them now than socialist solidarity.

Which technically makes them at war with themselves and China...

Oooh!  Maybe they can nuke Pyongyang.  I don't see how anyone could stop them from carrying out  that dastardly plan.

Yeah, I'll be more worried when their ICBMs aren't being hand-welded any more. Maybe in 50 years when they can afford robot controlled laser welders, but until they can have fun with their starving population.

It would be something if the South Koreans launched a surprise offensive directly northward. The North Koreans may have been significantly more resilient in the days of Kim Jong Sung, but today, one kick and the whole rotten house would come tumbling down.

I get so tired of the drone of North Korea - brinksmanship and nuclear proliferation and that chubby dictator's kid's kid who's the chubby dictator now.  It'd be worth finally fighting it out with these idiots just to not have to give a damn about it anymore.

There's something to be said for just doing the crazy-american-cowboy thing, looking them right in the eye and saying "You tore up the armistice?!?  GOOD.  We been lookin' for somewhere to put all these Afghan troops, Kim Jong Tonso'fun."

Reality is though that's the best way to handle the situation.

When deer herds get too large for an area, we kill off the excess. Same situation here. On the whole they're poorly educated, largely untrained, poorly supplied, no real resources... there's two options: break the bank to keep them at that level because you won't change it in three generations worth of spending due to scale, or kill them.  Frankly any logical decision maker will opt to kill them off until it's a manageable number to rebuild from.

Well, with communications cut off, and back to a state of war, it would not take much of a miscalculation for this to really get out of hand. <mandatory meme reference> And we'll be lucky to live through it. </mandatory meme reference> Especially since NK will now probably provoke an incident that they hope to control.

Meh if someone is needed to push a button sure. Otherwise I'm inclined to let the Chinese take care of it. They're pretty good about handling stuff like that. Even better than Texas.
