The least expensive place to get married is Alaska, with an average of $15,504 per wedding.

Yeah, still too much.

Oh, good - I can plug the inn my wife and I got married at back in '01. Back then the elopement package price was $1000 for 4 days, then we did a 12-day road-trip honeymoon in Canada for under three grand - and the Atlantic provinces were refunding sales taxes to Americans, so we got a $150 rebate when we got home.

Anyway, look up the Notchland Inn in New Hampshire. Smack in the middle of the White Mountains with next to nothing around. Gay-friendly since back in the day, too. Across the road is one of the trailheads for Mt. Washington.

Alaska isn't the least expensive place to get married it is where people spent the least on average for weddings. I'm sure you can get married in Manhattan for $200 if you want.

You know what they say about women finding a mate in Alaska. The odds are good, but the goods are odd.

When I was stationed in Kodiak the townie women threw themselves at us coasties. We were their ticket out of Alaska.

/I miss Alaska.

What's the least expensive state to get divorced? That's the most important question for anyone at risk of paying alimony and child support.

Hubby and I got married on Ester Dome (just outside Fairbanks) back in 97. One of the wedding shops brought up a gazebo and we had a friend do the ceremony. The mountains even came out for the occasion. Then we headed over to the Pump House for a prime rib dinner reception for 50 in the glassed in room on the riverfront deck. Total cost was under $5K.

/still married

I got married in Alaska.  We used the beautiful NPS ranger station I worked in at the time, my coworkers were my witnesses and because Alaska has awesome rules about who can actually do the marrying (anyone), an old stoner hippie friend of ours preformed the ceremony.  Total cost was the gas to get this friend to a courthouse so he could fill out the form and the cost of the license & store bought cake.

Given the time and the season, I had guests show up in uniform, jeans, or hip waders.  And the wedding was perfectly awesome in every way.
