Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell was Oh no, not again.

I thought about going that direction with it, but since he didn't know who Douglas Adams is it probably would have gone over his head.

/ I try to curtail my smartass tendencies, but FSM's sake, you're already on google's home page - right below the doodle there's a little box that will answer almost any question you have

Actually, see the computer panel next to the towel? There's a search icon there (magnifying glass). If you click that it googles Douglas Adams for you.

I did too. I'll go one better and say I enjoyed Mos Def as Ford Prefect. Coolness and swagger with just the right amount of fish out of water awkwardness.

Think I'll fire up the BBC show for the drive home today.

The mini animations in the guide are awesome. Marvin in the opening doors in the top left is a nice touch too.

Still have my dogeared, ratty, taped together copy of Hitchhikers. Back when there were only 2 books in the series.

Watching the movie version now at work, and when I get home I'll dust off the BBC show.

Im in the "enjoyed the movie" crowd myself. Since it is one of the rare "intellegent" comedies around (a comedy that does not rely on stupid jokes, I.E. fart jokes and such, to be funny)

I could've done without the stuff with Malkovich, but Mos Def was great as Ford and I liked the movie too.

I thought the movie was well-done.  I prefer the cast of the BBC mini-series, but it does feature that charming BBC production budget.

I thought it was kind of lame. More like a Doodle from their first year. I mean, it was OK, but nothing spectacular. If they'd had a V.O. with the Guide entries, it would have been cooler. Marvin was kind of a let down, too.

Yeah, little animations with some beeps and boops, but no narration I heard. I saw the entry on the Earth, the babelfish, and one other, I think. Like I said, personally, I thought it fell kind of flat.

It's odd, I liked most of the performances, but not the movie.  I guess I'm letting my love for the books cause nerdrage over the things that were changed or left out.

Not true Nerdrage unless you compare everything to the original source, the BBC radio show.  Then you can have rage all you want.

Radio into Album into TV into Book into Albums and Books into Radio, Albums, and Books and so forth, back and forth as needed.

I saw this earlier, but didn't check it out.  It's not up as the home page anymore, but it's only 10:44 pm here.  Google knows everything about me, why not set it to be time zone specific?  Ever since I got my Android phone they know exactly where I am, but they can't take time zone into account when decided which home page to show?

You are correct in that facepalm

I find it kind of weird that Douglas Adams talked about the guide in the late 70's- early 80's and here we are. Smartphones that are practically guides now.

More to the point: Wikipedia. Has much that is apocryphal, or is at least wildly inaccurate, but is significantly cheaper than traditional encyclopedias, and has "... that anyone can edit" written in small, friendly letters on its homepage.
