Is this the one who's mother publicly disowned him when she found out what he did?

"Onto some bullets."

No kidding, he deserved so much more.  I'm actually angry with the prison for allowing him to have the means to take the easy way out.

This is not good news. Not because I give a flying shiat about the suspect's welfare, but because the other suspects will now try to pin the majority of the blame on him so they can get lighter sentences and he won't be there to refute it.

/I also submitted this with a better headline

I have a hard time celebrating anyone's death.

Think I'm ok with this one.

If I was one of them, I'd beg the court for a life sentence rather than face what's outside.

Not to worry.. If Indian jails are anything like Italian jails (protip: they are waaaay worse), the guy got "something else" prior to be helped to hang himself...

I'm thinking that now they'll all be racing each other to rat out the rest.  Now they can see the writing on the wall and it consists of a 'suicide' note in each jail cell.   The one who turns on the others may be able to buy life in prison for himself.

No.  It would be wrong to celebrate his murder by the guards.  There is something very wrong with the justice system being subverted by someone who claims to uphold it, and that should never be wrong.

But a suicide?  That's a mite bit different.

2013-03-11 12:53:21 AM
Guys...guys...GUYS....wait a second here. He wasn't found guilty; the trial hasn't been concluded. As far as I'm concerned he was an innocent man. Yes, the media said he was guilty. I wasn't there. You weren't there. So for Crissakes shut the fark up...

Oh, ha-ha.

If I knew I'd done something awful, I'd off myself in jail before the trial so that my family could say "Well, Spidey was never convicted, and maybe it was the guards, or she knew she mightn't get a fair trial..." and protect their consciences. Kind of a 'this is a good death' situation, like the Operative offered in 'Serenity.' It's just about the only honorable, moral, face-saving way to go when one has failed so utterly.

Of course, all that is easily avoided by not horribly gang-raping anyone to death like a damn reaver.

So yeah.

Look, I have some moral qualms with the death penalty, but not because it kills bad people.  I have problems with the death penalty because it often kills the wrong people.  I have problems with vigilante justice because it subverts the rule of law, and because it also often kills the wrong guy.

If this guy really died at the end of a rope he put around his neck, I feel no sympathy for him.  I don't believe in torturing criminals, but I do believe in imprisonment, and for certain crimes, if it wasn't for the possibility of getting the wrong guy getting convicted, I'd believe in the death penalty- not for vengeance, or an eye for an eye, but because someone with that little compassion is almost certainly not going to be rehabilitated.

How many people died in the world yesterday?  I will not shed a tear or feel sorry for this man's passing, except maybe that a trial might have given India a chance to address some of their problems with violence towards women publicly.  That might have given this poor woman's death some meaning besides 6 people getting to ejaculate.

He decided he deserved it. I applaud his judgement. My grandpa was killed by a DUI and a mugger killed one of my aunts. When criminals decide they deserve the death penalty, let them have it and celebrate that there's one less dirtbag taking up space.

Nobody was ever arrested for the mugging and the DUI got off with nothing.

Too many crimes are never solved.

Agreed. I'm not celebrating. Just completely, utterly, indifferent.

If i did truly want him to suffer, and be punished for what he's done, then i'd be disappointed he took the cowards way out. But punishment, although satisfying sometimes, achieves nothing.

Life is not a comic book. Batman isnt real and if he was, he would never catch a Joker in the act. He would have to meet the badguys in a cell, after they were arrested, and beat the shiat out of them.

And that, wouldnt be right.
