Sounded fun, but the app for the iPad won't log in, given the reviews a common thing. Oh well.

Just use Comixology, they have the same deal. They provide the back end for the Marvel all itself, and their app own is solid on both iOS and Android. Their servers are getting hammered right now, but once it dies down you should be good to at least purchase all the ones you want to get them on your account, and then download them at your leisure once the craziness subsides.

I've used Comixology for a couple of years, and love it. Frequent $1 per issue sales on good stuff like the entire runs of Transmetpolitan, Y: The Last Man, and The Boys, and on a good device like the Retina iPad or a Nexus 10  the art looks better than on paper. It got me back into weekly comic collecting again after a decade of only grabbing the occasional trade, and I've had very little trouble downloading comics onto multiple devices. Whatever DRM they have is Steam-level unobtrusive.

Got to this page when the server gets unfarked. There is link near the top you can click that will add all items in the sale to your cart.

What kind of Kindle do you have? Color comics aren't going to look that great on a 6" eInk Kindle, and the Fires have a Comixology app that works well for me. I do most of my comics reading on a Fire HD.

The original Fire... Always been a borrow from a friend reader. Not a huge fan, but they are passable when free, and some are pretty good... What does Comixology have/offer? Never looked hard for a comic app or anything of the sort before.

Can someone put up an update when the torrent is posted? :)

So, wise Comixology-using person.  Ever heard of any issues of being able to log in there on a normal browser but not via Android app?  I mean, I assume it could be just a delay due to their servers being pillaged by some absurd number of people at once searching for the "add all to cart" button, but still...

/Trying to get this all set up, woot.

Comixology basically is the iTunes of comics. It's got the major publishers covered, plus a lot of good indies, so you can read anything you want from mainstream DC/Marvel stuff to more interesting stuff like Saga, The Underwater Welder, and The Stuff of Legend. It has apps for every smartphone and tablet out there, too, so if you upgrade you device you don't have to worry about losing your stuff. You can even read the comics via the web browser on your computer. I had a original Kindle for a while, and it was an okay device for reading, but you may have to zoom in a bit for the text to be easily readable, (there is a panel by panel guided reading mode that you can always use, too). The Fire HD is a lot easier to read because of the higher resolution.

Haven't run into the issue on my Fire or my Android phone during normal circumstances. I'm assuming their servers are just farked right now due to the onslaught. With the servers being hammered, I'd focus on getting the issues into your account first before the sale is over, and then worry about downloading them later at your leisure. Once you own them, you own them. Also, since they do the back end for the official Marvel and DC apps, you'll see anything you bought via Comixology show up in their apps if you use the same account (useful, for example, if you have a Windows Phone, since those only have the DC app and not the full Comixology app).

There's no need. Comixology has a full app that is integrated into Amazon's payment system. The only issue I've had is that due to some deal with DC comics and Amazon, for a while I couldn't see any DC titles if I looked through the store on the Kindle, but I could download them on the Kindle if I purchased via the website.

Yep, either you can't get to the page with the actual #1 issues(Just keep getting bounced to stories ABOUT it), or it just hangs and hangs. I managed to get about 139 of them in my cart, and then I think I lost it all...

Hopefully that's the case.   I'm curious whether they did do anything to prepare for this sort of response, though I honestly don't think it should have been unexpected.  I mean, gee, put tons of stuff up on the internet for a brief period of time -- what else would happen?

Too bad they're totally farked right now.  How is it that we're in 2013 and major companies still can't handle a farking online promotion?  For fark's sake, even Google can't handle the demand when launching their Nexus products.  It took me hours to order my Nexus 10 on launch day.  It's pathetic.

I managed to get two titles downloaded through Marvel's app on my tablet but it appears they force you to use "guided view" which goes from panel to panel.  I've got 4 million pixels.  I can view a full comic page  as it was intended without looking through a keyhole.  So I went over to Comixology which lets me read titles properly.  At least there I can add titles in groups so I only need to do 20 groups but they're so overloaded I've only managed to purchase one group.  Maybe two.  I can't tell if that one's gone through yet.

Pathetic.

Nobody thinks that except you.  The "time limit" mentioned is the time during which they will be available for free through Marvel and Comixology, not the length of time one has to read them.

2013-03-11 12:56:41 AM
The problem is that comics designed for print don't read very well on tablets. A lot of modern comics are designed with big splash spreads and bleeds across pages that are difficult to read on a 10" or 7" screen as it is, and when you shrink them down to see the whole thing, it's impossible to read the words.Strip comics are much better for electronic devices because they're contained and fit on the screen well.

Also, Marvel's #1s are usually about setting up stories that aren't that great when they resolve in later issues (if they ever get finished in the first place; many peter out when the creative teams depart). I can't imagine trying to sit through 700 of them.

1000 Ways to Dye: Finally, I can get my hands on NFL Super Pro #1!

I used to buy those 10-packs of back issues in the 90's at a pharmacy, lots of uncanny X-men from 200-300. And a Superpro #1 almost 50% of the time.

Yeah, I'm not even going to try tonight. I'm going to wait until tomorrow when they throw some more servers on the fire. If it turns into a debacle, they'll probably just extend the sale out to a full week or so.

Books I looked for and didn't find:
Not Brand Ecch
Millie the Model (And Millie's Friend Patsy)
Iron Man (1967)
Doctor Strange (1974)
Human Fly
Rom: Spaceknight
Amethyst
The Punisher Meets Archie

This is still a very cool offering. But it's not every #1.
