With a description like that subby, I was expecting Tiny Tim's "Tiptoeing Through The Tulips", or anything by Winger.

Doom and gloom metal are hard to experience in any means except live or with an exceptional sound system and great recording, otherwise the sound is distorted and slow. In my opinion, at least. Nothing terrible here, but the live experience makes it.

I liked this better when Sleep did it.

Embarrassingly late to the party, but I've just recently discovered the awesomeness of Destroyer 666.

In this case, I'd agree.
This week's listening, all over the map, and all bandcampy:

De Lirium's Order
Botanist
Atropos Project

Speaking of late to the party, which I always am (musically), I've just started listening to Windir.  Such great stuff.  Check them out if you like black/viking/folk norwegian metal.  The band formed Vreid after the singer died, who are really good but Windir is the shiat if you are into that kind of stuff. Epic, majestic, heavy awesomeness.

I'm on a big Summoning kick now.  Again, I'm never current with my metal obsessions.  Also bought an album by Lunar Aurora yesterday.  Good atmospheric German black metal.

great song.

things I found interesting recently -

Doombringer - Red Vapour Fills the Skull of the Cadaver (black/death done right)

Howling - Six Souls for the Witching Hour (death/thrash; Vanessa Nocera)

Windhand - Black Candles (stoner)

Occultation - Somber Dawn (psychedelic/occult rock - not as good as their album for me, but noteworthy)

Sabazius - The Descent of Man (speed metal; starts off crazy fast, but then shockingly kicks it up even another notch at about the 7 hour mark)

Impious Baptism - Descent from Hades (black/death)

Jess and the Ancient Ones - Astral Sabbat (psychedelic occult rock; new song; good stuff)

as always, thanks for your links.

I submitted 4Arm late last night and it was redlit literally in 5 minutes.

These Aussies wear their Slayer influences very well. Far better than this choice.

I like it, but with the live setting, the sound sucked. When they got into the faster parts, I couldn't hear the drums at all and it was just a big distorted mess. I've heard them before though, and I like it. Not my favorite, but good.

Black Moth on the other hand? Yeah....good stuff stoner rock with great female vocals.

They should tour with 5 finger death punch.

Slayer influence you say?

Been listening to way too much of The Foreshadowing this week. Great gothic doom, if you're into that stuff. Otherwise check out Crystal Viper if you want some awesome chick-fronted trad metal.

Oh, and Dream Death is finally back. New album rules. Especially if you're into that Celtic Frost band.

Nope. They are touring with Testament and winning over fans in a big way, from what I hear.

i didnt get to post yesterday, but here's some monday contributions:

bongripper is killer! they do need to be experienced live, however. they are opening for Floor (singer of Torche's old band) and Thrones (solo project of Joe Preston) in chicago soon, so that's going to be cool.

stuff i've been digging lately:

new Woe track from their upcoming album. melodic modern black metal. i didn't like it at first, but it's growing on me. I'm a big fan of their previous albums and am looking forward to the new one.

my friend plays guitar in Bastard, and they recorded a demo of punkish/motorheadish black metal. this stuff is built for headbanging.

Whores. from Atlanta aren't too terribly metal, but they blast out some reighteous noise sludge rock for fans of classic melvins, helmet, unsane, jesus lizard, etc.
