Wait. People hate Jude Law?

2013-03-10 01:57:24 PM
Two of them will automatically turn me off to seeing anything they do or have ever done.  One will draw me in to just about everything she's done, except the movie about the moron Mormon missionary.

I ain't clicking through no slideshow man.

Nicholas Cage is hated because he deserves it.

2013-03-10 02:03:50 PM
Kristen Stewart doesn't really deserve the hate.  She deserves as much emotion as she can express at any given moment which is nothing.

I've despised Travolta since Pulp Fiction. Tarantino should have let his career die off instead of reviving it with that film.

Deslided.

For the really lazy:
10. Kristen Stewart
9. Ben Affleck
8. Keira Knightley
7. David Bowie
6. Colin Farrell
5. Nicholas Cage
4. Anne Hathaway
3. Tom Cruise
2. Matthew McConaughey
1. Jude Law

Who hates David Bowie?

/Cage CAN be a good actor, if he wants to be. He just takes every script offered to him and mails it in.

Precious Roy's Horse Dividers: Who hates David Bowie?

Beats me.

He was fun in The Prestige.

Cage baffles me. He does a movie like Leaving Las Vegas and then stars in a series of awful action flicks to apparently pay his debts. I'm sorry but the dude can act.

/Matchstick Men was also very good

Yeah but he was good in Pulp Fiction so it was worth it for him to refuse to go away in the subsequent 19 years.

I keep getting told that Kristen is good in other movies. If that's true, her performance in Twilight lies partially with the director. Like Batman and Robin. If you saw Dusk till Dawn, Three Kings or even Ocean's 11 you'd know that there's no reason Clooney couldn't play a smooth playboy or a badass. But Joel Schumacker is an incompetent asshole.

Precious Roy's Horse Dividers: Who hates David Bowie?

I don't, but he has been in some shiatty movies - and he his new music isn't nearly as good as his old music.

/Cage CAN be a good actor, if he wants to be. He just takes every script offered to him and mails it in.

Yeah - he's alright in my book. He's been in some bad movies - especially his version of Superman, but give the guy a break.

Who doesn't like Raising Arizona though?
I also thought Wild at Heart was good.

Is that wrong?

Tax issues - he owes quite a bit, that's why he takes these crap roles.

Let's see, what hasn't Cage done...

He did teen heartthrob
Straight up action
drama
comedy
Cohen brothers
Cher's one handed love interest.

And lots of crazy.

I have never gotten the hate for him.

That was a surprise. I mean, WTF? I've never heard/seen anyone speak poorly of the guy WRT *any* facet of his existence, let alone his acting.

For a while he was a sex symbol, and that tends to engender disrepsect from a lot of people. But he's a good actor. I'll watch anything he's in.

Even when he was The Pretty Face... jeez... I don't recall anyone getting in a huff.  Dude really is a good actor, definitely.

Matt (as I call him) McConaughey can be smug and he made some rom com bad choices, but the dude can act his ass off.

Grafting a horse's head onto a human body is not an inexpensive proposition.

I liked that movie a lot. It was just so absurd and it starred "Maniac Nick Cage", who I prefer over "Sad Sack Nick Cage".

Cage can act. It's true. Hell, I thought he was even good in Moonstruck but then he'll do something like Disney's The Sorcerer's Apprentice and I'll just shake my head. The "one for the money, one for me" thing Hollywood has had going on for years now is one thing but Cage is all over the place.

I've always kinda dug Cage since I first found out that in order to avoid trading in on the family name of Coppola he adopted the last stage name "Cage" after "Luke Cage, Power Man", a comic I used to read as a kid along with "Iron Fist". Geek love and all that.

SilentStrider: Wait. People hate Jude Law?

Apparently all men are jealous of him cause he's such a hottie or something. I'm not getting it either.

Now Alan Rickman, on the other hand, that guy needs to have of those Phantom of the Opera-esque accidents soon.

He's the one who's *really* making the rest of us look bad in direct comparison.

*shakes hairy fist at devilishly good looking Rickman*

I understand the hate for Affleck but I've always liked him. It should be noted that I never saw Gigli.

2013-03-10 04:34:44 PM
Law, Farrell, and McConaughey all had years in which it felt as though the heads of Hollywood got together in a dark boardroom and decided that ______ WOULD be the next giant movie star, damn it, and cast them in everything. Some can't forget the fatigue that ensued. Of the three, I'd say Law's the shiatty one who deserves the residual hate he still gets.

/Law's year led to that amusing sequence where Chris Rock called it out while hosting the Oscars and Sean Penn put on his best sourpuss face and announced to the entire audience that "Jude Law is a GREAT actor" out of nowhere as he was introducing another category

It doesn't matter how much you polish it, when your source material is farking Twilight, no one can turn it into good.

Some surprising ones on there.

Only one I'd say I actually dislike is Tom Cruise.  Crazy little mofo.

2013-03-10 05:11:22 PM
I went through that entire slideshow. NONE of those actors are underrated.

Nicholas Cage is hated because he deserves it.

Cage hating is a hipster douche thing. Shut up.

2013-03-10 05:32:51 PM
Cage gets dumped on because, deep down, he's a normal person.

Tom Cruise gets shiat because he's got stupid "religion" but that's separate from his talents.

Kristin Stewart gets less shiat than she deserves.

2013-03-10 05:34:06 PM
Underrated? Don't you mean overexposed? Nine of those on the list do too much which is terrible, but all have a few bright spots. David Bowie is awesome in movies, and I have no idea how you can hate this man for anything, even singing so close to Mick Jagger.

2013-03-10 05:35:43 PM
I hate Keira Knightley with a passion of a thousand suns. This woman simply cannot act. ''Never Let Me Go'' was a wonderful, but she almost destroyed it every time she was on screen.

2013-03-10 05:36:40 PM
I think the author confused Bowie with another part time actor

Cage is hated because of what he was/still could be. Sean Penn once said he was a great actor who wound up being a great performer. That about sums it up. He has great talent and makes almost nothing but utter shiat movies.

I hate David Bowie, but only because he is The Sovereign and leader of The Guild of Calamitous Intent.

I gained a lot of respect for Matthew McConaughey from his performance in Killer Joe. The guy clearly has talent in the right role.

The Onion is prophetic: Deslided.

No one hates Bowie. No one hates Cage, but they sure don't respect him. Always thought Jude was well regarded, and McConaughey can do no wrong after Wooderson as far as I'm concerned.

antidisestablishmentarianism: I understand the hate for Affleck but I've always liked him. It should be noted that I never saw Gigli.

He was the bomb in Phantoms.

4. Anne Hathaway

This again? Who hates Anne Hathaway?

Don't be glib.

I can't stand Tom Cruise...not just because he seems like a psycho butthole in real life, but because I have a hard time believing him in almost any role he's ever played. And "Magnolia" is Anderson's worst film, so using it as a defense of Cruise as actor does not work on me.

For "people", read "women"; a few years ago, Law cheated on his girlfriend (Sienna Miller) with his kids' nanny. Apparently, the Oprah/View/Regis&Kelly target demographic never forgave him for that.

FYI, straight men are not jealous of dandy men who will most likely scream "NOT THE FACE!!" in a fight.

fusillade762: This again? Who hates Anne Hathaway?

I hate that she's not naked more often.

2013-03-10 06:23:20 PM
This list makes no sense at all.  How can Tom Cruise ever be called "underrated?"

And what is Bowie even doing on this list?

2013-03-10 06:25:07 PM
Why the hate for Keira Knightley ?

2013-03-10 06:32:44 PM

Fallout Boy: FYI, straight men are not jealous of dandy men who will most likely scream "NOT THE FACE!!" in a fight.

And FYI, most straight men also don't formulate their opinions of other men based on the likely outcome of imagined bouts of fisticufffs.
