He's the director we need, but not the one we deserve.

If you found Inception confusing you should probably revert to watching Nick Jr. and reading coloring books.

My money.  Shut up and take it.

"The film ... will follow a group of explorers who travel through time after discovering a worm hole. The press release describes it as "a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest reaches of our scientific understanding."

Don't worry idiots who couldn't follow inception, the execs will still force him to stop the movie or slow it down repeatedly to explain every five minutes.

Oh boy, another big bloated mess with artificial moral dilemmas and a plot that falls apart the moment you think about it.

Nah, Nolan does that on his own.  He can't write anything but exposition.  There's no character development.  His direction is so flat it looks like a soap opera.  Zero humor.  Gaping plot holes.  Nolan is the most successful bad director of our time.

James Cameron takes a lot of knocks.  But that guy knows how to develop a character and keep a story going.  Nolan's snoozefests don't compare.

I completely agree.

Which is why Nolan's "Batman" movies are terrible. I'm pretty confident that history is going to agree with me, too. 20 years from now, people will watch Nolan's "Batman" movies and say "Boy, those are really boring and plot-less".

Inception wasn't confusing at all.  It was just stupid.

Who here ever has dreams that mundane?  They're three layers in and it's still a boring everyday kind of environment (only it's cold out and there's these skiers).

Last night I dreamed I was in a giant lake full of milk teaching monks how to juggle canteloupes.  Typical messed-up stupid crap your brain shats out while you sleep... nothing you'd need a spinning top to tell you wasn't really happening...

Except all of his other movies that aren't batman. The prestige really is a great movie and of course memento

Dream within a dream? They slowed down the action so many times during the last hour that it continually knocked me out of the movie. It was stopped and slowed down so often and some people still couldn't follow. I thought it impacted quality

I forgot that was him, and then I saw it again recently and forgot how good it was. And following is really worth a watch just to see what a good film maker can do with no money and 3 unknown actors

But Inception wasn't confusing--at all. If anything, it was 30 minutes too long.

eh, I think they'll hold up well (though I honestly don't remember a damn thing about the first movie), but I don't think The Dark Knight Rises will be seen in a positive light. I think the only people defending that movie are fanboys who like the idea of an Intelligent Batman Movie over, you know, an actually good movie devoid of inconsistencies.

as much as I like Nolan's work, I do think his fanboys patting themselves on the back for being smart and understanding movies is getting more than a bit annoying. It's not like Nolan didn't spend 30 minutes of the movie explaining the plot to the audience.....

I think you'd dig it.  I just saw it not too long ago, and it was pretty good.

The film plays around with the chronology of events, but it's not hard to follow.

I was confused with rises; batman specifically said that some days you can't get rid of the bomb, but then HE GOT RID OF IT. Complete contradiction.

You goddamn right I would. Just sat through some McG trash today. I don't understand hate for batman movies. Ok I do a little, but I think it's a little baseless considering source material and the fact it's a block buster. I could gripe about the changes to bane but I understand them.

Danny Boyle's Sunshine was 2/3 of this until the infuriating out-of-nowhere last third that came straight out of Event Horizon.

It was so full of promise then it turned into a cinematographer's idea of horror wank.

I love that movie and all but why didn't that ship end up in the sun? Was that guy the first captain to have pandorum?

I think they might've stopped the ship before running into their problems.

I like Sunshine despite the horror movie last third. I believe that it's likely that there was no way to get that last act to work without some sort of 'race against time' theme. Otherwise, they woulda sidled up, set up their shiat, and finished the job.

What was confusing about Inception? They explained everything that was going to happen before it happened and then displayed it happening in painfully obvious ways. It would have been more enjoyable if it had been less direct.

Let me guess the cast....

I'm an unapologetic Chris Nolan fanboy, but you know what I want to see him do?

I want to see him go back to making smaller, more focused noir pieces like Memento and Following.

I enjoy his big epic-scope films, but it would be great to see him scale things back a bit.

Mrbogey: It was so full of promise then it turned into a cinematographer's idea of horror wank.

Pretty much, aye.

thecpt: I love that movie and all but why didn't that ship end up in the sun? Was that guy the first captain to have pandorum?

I think MadSkillz hit the nail on the head.

Admittedly, it's been some time since I've last seen that movie, and I'm a bit reluctant to give it another go-round.

Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener: Memento

Easily his best film, although I haven't seen  Following. Nolan's weakness is directing action scenes. It seems like they might have flowed okay on the storyboard, but once you actually try and chain those comic book panels into a cohesive shot, it all falls apart.

As for  Inception, it was a basic heist movie with some sleight of hand to make it seem less simple.

Not that hard to follow Inception, just watch The Game. It was just a rip off with an orgy of special effects slapped on.

Inception was the best sci fi movie since the first matrix came out
imo

Indeed.  Do these folks only watch movies by Tarkovsky and Antonioni?
