Gay marriage, Islam, the war in Afghanistan, the Occupy movement, even a kiss between two men that aired on "Glee" - it all became grist for Jackson's comedic commentaries,

Al Franken said that when he grew up, his family discussed politics every night around the dinner table, so that's what he's an expert at

Well, there's that.. plus the fact that he majored in government at Harvard.

Perhaps Victoria majored in being a no-talent ass-clown at Yale.

Not exactly. Media companies rely on a fairly diverse consumer base and use a fairly diverse workforce. Outside of FOX, there are few places where the solely paranoid, white, Christian, Republican consumer base and workforce exist. Combine this with the fact places such as Hollywood are image driven, and you have someone who will create tension and not appeal to others on a variety of levels including her ignorance and bigotry.

But I do not disagree submitter meant Hollywood is liberal.

After slamming President Obama, Muslims, homosexuals, and basically everyone except White Christian Republicans,

1/3 * 300,000,000 = 100,000,000 Republicans
1/3 * 300,000,000 = 100,000,000 Independents who don't care
1/4 * 300,000,000 = 75,000,000 Liberals who pretend to care but will watch something they aren't supposed to like if they don't get caught.

So a potential domestic audience of 275,000,000.  If she had an ounce of talent left my money would be on her.   Since talentless actors are dependent on producers who belong to the deranged 25,000,000 who give a shiat she's screwed.

I read her book (I've read every other SNL book too) and even with professional editing she comes off more unhinged and damaged than both Jay Mohr and Darell Hammond put together. And that was before she started discussing politics. I really enjoyed Tom Davis' book.

It might revive her career in Hollywood, but she would get soooo many death threats from right-wingers who feel "used" and "betrayed". I can't even imagine how they'd react to having a Hollywood actress pull the wool over their eyes. I can't imagine she'd be safe anywhere for quite a while.

It's just a risky gambit. She'd better be sure it's what she wants if she really is faking it.

For the record, I'm still convinced Ann Coulter is putting on an act, too.

Fox News' workforce is actually very liberal. The people who work behind the scenes are people who got their degrees in Communications, Graphic Design, and other liberal arts degrees. It's the on-air personalities and management, like Roger Ailes, who tend to be conservative.

After reading the article, I think she was one of those people who got famous in a pre-reality show era for being herself -- and herself was interesting because other people who did have comedic talent and ability were able to dance around her and make the show work. She wasn't one of those comics who invented a certain persona and who got famous doing it (like a Bobcat Goldthwait or a Bob Saget) -- she was just herself, and because people like Johnny Carson and Lorne Michaels found her endearing and naturally funny, she was easy to work into the show.

And that's exactly why her star fell so fast - the people who supported her dropped out of the game or moved on and the new people coming up through the ranks were competing with her for a job. She was underqualified for the work she had and couldn't find a way to transition into something more significant. So, she got pushed aside, ignored and forgotten. (I remember one of the bits in an SNL anniversary special was her standing up in an audience and interrupting Jon Lovitz during a routine and asking whatever happened to her. That was the joke, and it was painful.)

As the article says, what made her interesting again was being this has-been comedienne who suddenly seemed to go full derp... though the article points out that she always leaned this way and didn't feel the need to speak up until her star had already fallen and she had nothing to lose. Had she been more savvy, she could have perhaps spun this into a comeback, but she's not that person. She really is the vile, hateful monster she appears to be.

In a post-reality era, we don't see actors and actresses rise up in the same way, because we have reality TV to do that for us. Lucky us?

RassilonsExWife: ZeroCorpse: Andy Kaufman is-- or at least was-- Leon Redbone

Umm.. No.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leon_Redbone

Conspiracy theory of the day:

Leon Redbone's first appearance on American television was in 1976 on SNL during a show which also featured Andy Kaufman. His history was almost a complete blank. It was like Leon Redbone just appeared out of the blue that week, with only a smaller club appearances prior to that. Andy Kaufman was known to do that very same thing-- Playing clubs under the guise of his alter-egos before introducing the character to a TV audience.

If you watch that episode, you'll see the close-ups on Redbone. He looks a heck of a lot like Andy Kaufman with a fake nose, mustache, dark glasses, and costume (panama hat, suit, etc).  If you check out his jawline and chin as compared to Kaufman on that episode, they look similar. The voice Redbone uses is unique because it's Kaufman puffing up his lips and singing through his nose.

I still suspect that Leon Redbone is a character that was first performed by Andy Kaufman. Maybe it still is Kaufman, and maybe, like Tony Clifton, it's someone else picking up the character and continuing with it. Either way, Redbone has always been very secretive, very private, and it has been damn near impossible to find out much about the man's history prior to that appearance on SNL.

Even the name-- Leon Redbone-- is very Kaufmanesque.

Perhaps he is still Kaufman, living a different life after "death" and enjoying the best joke of all.

Another hint: He travels to engagements exclusively by car, saying, "I carry around many unusual items and devices. They make life difficult for airport security personnel and flying impossible for me."  --- Maybe these unusual items and devices are the elements of his disguise, and going through airport security would "out" him as someone else.

The only sources for information about his life before he was famous are newspaper articles that contradict each other. Otherwise, he doesn't tell anybody anything.

quiotu: Something tells me Victoria Jackson's on her way to becoming the next Chevy Chase... except not as funny.

/Also, Andy Kaufman is-- or at least was-- Leon Redbone.

The British believe that King Aurthur will come back in the nation's time of need. I would like to believe that when we need him most Andy Kaufman and Bill Hicks will come back to save us all.

Mitch Hedberg will be waiting at the top of the broken escalator to Heaven, temporarily stairs - sorry for the convenience.

Good for her...Obama needs to go the "old fashion way" along with everyone else in Washington (both Democrat and Republican alike IMO), homosexuals can 'eat a d!ck" and/or "lick a crack" (oh wait...) for all I care, and Muslims, well Muslims are fine with me as long as they are not trying to 'kill the infidels' (however, anyone who preaches that "God" wants us to take the lives of other people who are different than us need to "Die in a Fire" IMO....Muslim or otherwise).

On second thought...they should let the pillow biters get institutionalized (married) only so long as the 'butch' gets cleaned out by the 'the biatch' of the relationship when they split up. Why should homosexuals be protected from getting screwed over by the US Court system when they "get divorced" (split up with each other)???

They should have to pay just like all the normal/straight people IMO, and the days of da gays getting special treatment by NEVER having to pay for a bad breakup need to be over. Equal rights means getting farked EQUALY by the court system...fair is fair after all Am-I-Right???
