12349876: Silverstaff: realize that these county lines were generally established around 200 years ago. Kentucky became a state in 1792, and quickly divided up into the 120 counties it has today.

30 weren't created until 50+ years after Kentucky became a state.


Still in the horse-drawn era, so the whole "get to your county seat in one day by horse" idea still applies, and with 120 counties, that means 75% of them were created in the first few decades of the Commonwealth.
