I like her personally, but she's gotta stop throwing around the rape subject so casually.  I get that it was terrible ordeal, but it's going to start sounding like "get out of dodge free" card soon.
Also, sometimes she says she was raped three times, and other times just twice.  That confuses people who don't know her story.

2013-03-10 09:23:37 AM
Like all celebrities, she'll get tired of daily grind that is running for high office and coupled with a legitimate primary challenger, she'll lose and/or drop out.

Well seeing that KY is a solidly red state, and she is planning on running as a Dem, there is a perfectly good chance that she won't have a serious (like dem house member or state leg member) candidate  opposing her in the primary and she'ss actually end up against whomever the Republican is int he general election.

We've had famous athletes, but I can't think of any actors that tried yet, I think she'll get the democratic nomination, if for no other reason that to force Mitch to spend some of his money

Does it ever bother anyone that, and I'll use this situation assuming she gets the nod and it's her and Mitch, this is the absolute best we can come up with? Of all the people in this state, these two are the most qualified to fulfil the job? No one else would, could, and should be doing a better job?

Am I the only person who is just straight out pissed at this system?

I think you should consider the pictures you posted, with the exception of Bono, none of them were household names, and Bono wasn't really that big of a celebrity when he went into office.

True. Liberal Minnesota would never send a crazy right wing nut job like Michelle Bachmann to Washington.

I've been saying this for years.

But the thing about Mitch, he does take care of Kentucky. When it comes time to talk about Military base closures the ones in Kentucky are off the table. He also helps direct research money to all of the public research universities in the state, I'm not sure somebody like Judd or Rand Paul has the pull the continue that.

Did Bachmann run statewide? No. She ran for a House seat.  It's almost like politics is local.

I'm not sure Ashley Judd is a household name, or even that big of a celebrity. The more important distinction between her and those others may be that she's female. The worst stereotypes of celebrity might be applied much more harshly to her because of that.

As a Canadian who spent last weekend in Kentucky, I'm getting a kick, etc.

- Learned it's pronounced Lou-ah-ville;
- Learned that you guys keep the good bourbon down there for yourselves;
- Learned that US gun shows are both entertaining and frightening.

One question remains: every little town we drove through had a nice old town square, with nothing but 20 or so lawyers' offices in it. WTF?

Yeah, I know - but those are/were minor celebrities or entertainers. At least I didn't bring up this guy:

Well its hard to get a serious candidate from the "wrong party" (blue candidate in red state and vice versa) because if you are say a congressman or state rep from a "wrong party" district you are looking at giving up your house seat in order to maybe win put probably lose the senate seat.

And of course if you are the "right party" for your state its considered bad form to challenge the incumbent from your party unless there is some scandal thats likely to make him(or her) lose in the general election, and you will have the full weight of the party machine working against you and for the incumbent.
