(TMZ)   If you were the one who mashed up Carly Rae Jepsen with Nine Inch Nails, one of the band wants you to know it's an "insult." And if any musician would know about being insulted, it's a drummer   (tmz.com) divider line 96

To be fair, making NIN fans angry is like shooting fish in a barrel. A dark, emo barrel full of fish living a life of quiet solitude an loathing.

If anything, the NIN song got upgraded.

Heck, before this, I didn't know he existed. The only member of NIN I knew was Trent.

There are a few people on the net who are very talented at Mashups....

Just about any by Mark Vidler, although some are better than others.... https://www.youtube.com/user/markv1967?feature=watch
Top ones by Wax Audio.... https://www.youtube.com/user/waxaudio/videos?view=0&flow=grid&sort=p
Always thought this one worked... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwJQy2BkJ-o

The best ones are an audio AND visual experience... they do an excellent job of mixing the video as well.

But, since you have these guys do it so well, you gets hundreds of thousands of people who also think they can do it, who come up with very substandard remixes and upload them to YT.

Yeah, not a fan of mash-ups, don't see the point. Now get two crappy songs and mash to make a good one then you might have something.

The only thing I learned from this is NIN had the same live show drummer for 6 years...  NIN is Trent, always has been Trent, and always will be Trent.. The rest are just along for the paycheck and free travel to play his music so he can sing.

That's because Trent IS the only member of NIN. From wikipedia:

As its main producer, singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, Reznor is the only official member of Nine Inch Nails and remains solely responsible for its direction. Nine Inch Nails' music straddles a wide range of genres. After recording a new album, Reznor  usually assembles a live band to perform with him.

This guy's just some schmoe Reznor used because he can't play all the instruments at once.

1. Chris Vrenna was a hired TOUR drummer. Who cares what he thinks?

2. As someone who grew up a NIN fan, I think it's fantastic. Who cares what I think?

3. Someone needs to do scientific research into why Call Me Maybe's chorus is so goddamn catchy.

Trent likely wouldn't care.  He's re-mixed their stuff enough so that you can barely know what it is, things like further down the spiral, he's into making a new experience out of older work.

Who really know's though?

Anyways, NIN had a drummer?  A player isn't an artist, maybe some impressive technical skill, but the writer is the artist.

It's not even like he only had one arm, just half a brain and a large ego.  Not as big of a douche as Lars Ulrich though, but maybe there's some connection there.  Is there some sort of drummers past their prime support group where they all gather around and bolster each other's confidence to the point of ludicrousness?

Wow.

It's incredible how truly irrespressibly pop-y 'Call Me Maybe' is. That music makes even 'Head Like A Hole' sound perky. Impressive. And disturbing.

I was gonna say... Chris was just one of Trent's tools.

Anyone ask Ringo's opinion on anything? NO. Keith Moon? Maybe if you got a Ouija board.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if it was done by Trent in an afternoon.

Fark that bro. My kid like is it and hell I don't mind when a little CRJ pops up on Winamp. Funny I can't say the same about NiN... Really, for myself, I think the only Jr. High band I escaped with was NOFX.

I would also recommend stuff from Eboman. He does mashups of sounds not so much songs but he cuts and dissects music like nobody I have ever seen. Plus his donuts with buddha is a legendary track.

Objectively the "Call Me A Hole" mashup isn't very good.  There's far too many bits where the melody is dissonant against the backing track. We tend to forgive them and focus on the parts where the harmony does work, but it could have been done better, even with subtle use of autotune.

I'd take the works of Girl Talk over this, and I don't like Girl Talk very much.
