Yet another way Mao St.Bama is hiding his evil liberal plots to enslave the hardworking, god-fearing white people of this great land.  Most transparent administration my ass!

2013-03-10 09:47:16 AM
And already the conservative friends have an image up on their facebook posts about how Obama is cancelling White House tours because 'it costs too much to pay volunteers.'

2013-03-10 09:50:48 AM
Dammit. I was hoping to do the tour for a chance at Jill Biden.  I'd like to put my West Wing in her Oval Office if you know what I mean, and I think you do.  I bet she keeps that North Lawn nice and trim

Why did Fartbama cut the tours?  He should only cut the stuff that is waste that people don't want.  Like, you know, stuff that benefits the blah, hispanic, and poors.

2013-03-10 10:18:11 AM
well, good to know that they didn't cut the free food for staffers.

Boehner showed that at least the House knows how to budget, plan ahead and be responsibile.  Leadership, not whiny-ness.

"In the House...planning for the possibility of sequestration has been underway for some time," and "alternative spending reductions have been implemented within the Capitol complex to ensure public tours and other regular activities can proceed as they normally would."

Yeah, that is a stupid statement!
Oh noes!  You need to make tradeoffs and decisions instead of having a blank check.   Carney has lost it.

I did the tour back when I was in grade school. I remember we wore orange plastic construction hats so the teacher could easily identify the group.

Or is that just for food stamps and not for rich DC tourists?

It means that, initially, they probably did have it cut, but when they saw the White House was doing it they restructured the funding to stick a finger in the President's eye.

Look, you assholes want austerity, so fark off and go to hell. I am sorry if this is screwing up your bullshiat narrative of "the government doesn't do anything useful so let's drown it in a bathtub". And no, the secret service should not be cutting back on core services for the sake of tourists when half the tea party wants Obama dead.

The reason Congress kept their tours open is not because they "planned" we'll, it is because they don't want anyone to notice how big of a fark up their stupid Sequestration plan is, and they are willing to sacrifice actual useful things in order to shield the public from seeing the results. They are content to cut actual operations and when things go south say "oh yeah the government sucks, huh?"  No reason that the White House should provide cover for these sociopaths.

Write to your congressman while you are at it. Right now they are hoping people are thinking that Obama sucks for shutting the whitehouse. If they figure out that people think they suck for feeding us the poison pill, maybe we have a chance.

"Even though our budget's been cut like everyone else's, thanks to proper planning, we're able to avoid furloughs amongst Capitol workers, and tours are going to remain available for all Americans," Boehner told reporters on Thursday.

Couldn't you save more money for real, hardworking Americans by eliminating the tours altogether? Tours are not a necessary expense.

Shutting Down White House Tours Saves The American Taxpayer $18K A Week.

You understand that whatever the Pres or FL do, requires Secret Service detail, and security screening.  Which ends up costing taxpayers money.  So to have a lavish party featuring A-list stars would require their staff and crew to go through security screening.  Not to mention Secret Service screening their bags and set equipment, then of course whatever how many guests are attending.

Let's not forget Obama's golf outings which he takes AF1 to go to.  And the Secret Service detail required for those little trips.  All in all, cancelling WH tours is a drop in the bucket compared to what Dear Leader is costing this country.

What a bunch of whiners.  Frivolous things, things that are not required for the government to function, go first.  Not essential programs.  This isn't like cutting funding for schools, libraries, and public safety.  Those things are essential, and people should get upset when they are cut.

The only reason this is a high profile cut is because the Republicans are making it one.  The $74,000 a week ($3,848,000 a year) saved might be a infinitesimal drop in the federal budget, but again, these are not essential to the functioning of government.  I'm more surprised they've kept them open in the face of all the threats the president gets.

//My White House tour got canceled back in Spring 1994.  Don't know why, just knows they were canceled that day.
