So a bottom-line player on a bottom-half team in a league for players who couldn't make it to a pro league or an NCAA program gets banned for life?  Honestly, given his hockey 'future' was the Senior leagues anyways, if that, I don't think this is a major life-breaker.

Also, what is it with guys named Cook(e)?

Well a lifetime ban from the Ontario University Athletic League.... if he's really good he'll find a spot on a pro roster.  There are enough teams out the with a win at any cost attitude that someone will risk him.

But yes, he did cross the line that you just don't cross.

More people should punch the refs. Your team should get like three punches per game, like timeouts.

I'd argue for a video review request (perhaps one per period but at a minimum one per game) as a first step.  If after being shown video evidence of their being completely wrong & really blowing the call they STILL refuse to budge off of their 'I called it so I'm right' stance, THEN you can punch him.

Perhaps a combination of the two systems will help clean up the atrocious reffing that has been going on this season.

2 regular punches and 1 package shot, for when shiat really is miscalled. That would be fabulous.

I was doubly confused because the ref front and center punches the player he takes down to the ice. I thought they were talking about banning him for life for punching a player.

I've certainly seen goonish stuff happen in the NCAA before, but players there often have a future. Our Goalie turned around and slugged a guy in the face right after the play stopped once, which was absolutely hilarious. Best part was that the refs completely missed it. Or chose to ignore it, the guy had been acting like a jackass all game, which might have been why he took a blocker to the face.
And of course, stuff like leaping hits, suspiciously high checks (and by that I mean headhunting)- it happens.

So I was on youtube last night, trying to find that David Legwand goal from centre ice. I stumbled on a Senior League from Quebec that prided itself on the hockey fights instead of trying to score goals.

I'm genuinely surprised that they even put a puck on the ice.

CIS is damn good hockey. Mostly players from the CHL and CJAHL. The only reason some of these guys don't play NCAA is because of the stupid ncaa rule declaring that if you play just one exhibition game in the CHL, you are considered a professional, and therefore ineligible.

I led my High School league in penalty minutes. Out of the 14 different schools we played in high school, 4 other people in the league and myself were actually good at checking and the refs punished the hell out of us for it. I thought about punching one of them many times. The difference of penalty minutes between us 5 and the rest of the league was comical. Good clean open ice hit? Charging. Player is AGAINST the boards and turns his back to you at the last second? 10 minute major checking from behind. Get physical on the face off? Interference. I actually had a ref threaten me with a penalty if I touched the other guy on the face off. GAH making me mad just thinking about it.

Not to say I was always innocent, but the bad reffing (and too many games at 4 in the morning) killed my love for playing.

That turning into the boards should be penalty. Used to see it all the time in the Dub.

I wouldn't go as far as calling it that. Looked to me like the guy who got hurt tried to preemptively check the bigger guy and got run over. He happened to be the perfect distance from the boards to make it a poor choice. That's not to say that the checker was innocent of hitting, but to say that was a blatant penalty is incorrect.

Thank you for forming your response as a question. The answer is that you are completely wrong---the incidental contact of Keller does not constitute a "pre-emptive check". Under no circumstances is it legal to dump someone from behind into the boards in the manner which was done there, even if a "pre-emptive check" had occurred---even if the guy is Swiss! It was a blatant play and regardless of the result, Schnyder should be suspended for a number of games. Considering the result, perhaps a season.

Probably you did not see the video in question and are relying on word of mouth by some drunken, blind, earthworm that claims to have seen the game. Here is a link to the video which should clear up the issue:

In the late 80's early 90's the Peoria Rivermen had a player named Tony Twist. He checked a goalie into the net and broke his neck on the crossbar. He was suspended a year or two then came back. But he could never play that team again.

Also, some refs need to be punched.

I don't know about that. I can picture some of the more physical AHL teams at least taking a flyer on him.
