Ya'll just have to teach the controversy. It's right there in the Constitution you pinko commies haven't read. I find it rather offensive that you so-called Americans can't understand that Jesus did, in fact, ride a dinosaur and fend off an alien invasion with laser rifles.

I'm mostly on board with the teach your children thing, but stuff that doesn't line up fact wise, shouldn't there be a line in there somewhere? I mean, at what point does lying to your kids become a crime against civilization?

This thread shall be filled with rational discussion and friendly discourse...lol who am I kidding? This thread shall be filled with outrage and crying, and most of it will most likely be completely pointless.

Ladies and gents, let me say this:

Yes, there is a baseline of knowledge a voting public should be exposed to and have. If we were a dictatorship, I wouldn't really care. We're not.

The thing I don't get about homeschooling is folks must think pretty highly of themselves and their capabilities if they think they can teach a well rounded curriculum. Sure, many educated people could teach up probably even through middle school. But how many people are really good at all of the upper high school levels of calc, physics, chemistry, world history, computer science, US history, sociology, etc... to feel confident their high school age kids are getting a solid education from them?

I'm curious, did the saddle have stirrups? Because stirrups were a major technological innovation. Well, I guess saddles themselves were, too. I'm assuming that in this fairy-tale the dinosaurs came pre-domesticated, rather than spending thousands of years working with us in tandem to co-evolve. I can only assume that we must have reached some point thought that we decided that a servant species that we had saddled and harnessed became to much work for us and we butchered them globally...a dinosaur genocide on a global scale. Or is the "wisdom" that some flood killed them, but not us? Because we were assholes and decided to leave them off the boat? And nevermind that some of them lived in the water already?

Oh who am I kidding, people who believe this tripe will never think critically about it.

They can't and their kids don't get a good education because of it. I had a relative call me about a simple math problem (story problem involving percentages - probably something from a 6 or 7th grade math level) - it boggled my mind that they would ever continue "teaching" their children when their inadequacies were glaringly obvious.

If these home school youngsters are reading books about dinosaurs in the Garden of Eden, at least they're learning to read.  They found out that 80% of NYC public high school grads can't even read at grade level.  I think they're the ones who are worse off.

no.

They found that 79ish percent of NYC high school grads who went on to one of NYC's community colleges, took remedial classes in english, and math.

It says that 79.3% haven't mastered the basics of reading, writing, and math.  Those things are more important for job skills.

False.

Much better to know a fun story AND be able to read it( Kristoph Waltz ) than to be very boring and illiterate to boot (Tom Cruise)

Ok, let's accept your premise.  Then how does cutting education funding make the students better?  If they can't learn in a classroom of 25, how can they learn better in a classroom of 35?

Right, so let's just teach our kids that Jesus rode a dinosaur and that the Trail of Tears was good because it brought Native Americans to Jesus.  I'm sure the Chinese will be oh so impressed with our children's ability to read.

I don't think that money is the problem with public education.  NYC spends $19,000 per student and look what they get.  There is obviously something wrong with the system.  They're not focusing on the basics.

Right, because the cost of living in NYC is identical to the cost of living in Bumfark, Nebraska. Might have something to do with costs.

And how does a system get more efficient when you take away integral parts of it? How exactly does that work? I'm quite familiar with the magic cut everything and suddenly it works better, but I've never experienced it in my life or heard an actual explanation.

So tell me, since you propose the solution, how does it work? If you are so sure cuts are necessary, you must have access to all sorts of detailed information to identify those magic cuts that make everyone work better. Who are they? And who is going to do their job when you cut them? How are you going to make school books cost less? Computers? Desks? You must have some kind of detail, so hand it over. I'm sure we'd all like to see it.

Here's the thing: We don't live in a world where we can throw those people aside and live our lives in scientific harmony. Not to mention that corporate entities love dimwits like this and - counter to all of the social science theory in the world - they thrive... long live the Peter Principle.

Ironically, nowhere does Lady Liberty beckon the world for "its irrational dumbshiats", yet we happily accepted tons of Puritans in some bizarre twist on the idea of liberty, in the name of liberty -- 'welcome, rationale-immune dolts who love to throw proverbial fists and hit noses everywhere'.

And they're still a pain in our collective asses, from censorship to jesusing the fark out of everything to farting out loads of stupid spawn.

/yes i know that 'puritans in america' predates 'the new colossus placard' by quite a long time
