2001-11-27 12:54:03 PM
Still as much of a cancer stick as ever...

I hate cigarettes and cigarette smoke...

Horrid stuff, not worth getting into at all...

Maybe cigars, but not cigarettes...

2001-11-27 12:54:38 PM
Bad habit... not healthy at all.

2001-11-27 12:55:25 PM
Enough nagging... time for fast food...

he he...

2001-11-27 12:55:55 PM
Really? Man, I better switch back to cigars then...

What about smoking tobacco though a hookah or waterpipe?
The imporant details are always left out... Grrr...

my original title for this post: "Low tar cigarettes will kill you" w/ [obvious]. Adding the word "still" was overkill. WE'RE JUST PUPPETS IN YOUR WORLD, AREN'T WE DREW!!

2001-11-27 12:59:14 PM
That's assuming that you don't get shot by a crack-head, electrocuted by the Texan government, or find yourself suddenly on the wrong end of being a US-Sponsored "Freedom Fighter".

I just love it when my co-worker comes in smelling like a stinking cigarette butt. It makes me want to puke. Goddammit, I hate that farking stinch!

2001-11-27 01:03:36 PM
Guess I'll switch back to Marlboro Reds then.

2001-11-27 01:06:02 PM
"We agree that there is no safe cigarette," company spokesman Brendan McCormick said.

Nice. "We agree that this product is unsafe." And I read in today's paper, the cigarette companies are appealing the 147 [drevil]BILLION[/drevil] dollar judgement against them in the Florida courts.

We admit our product is unsafe, but we shouldn't have to pay for the healthcare problems caused by the use of our product - even to people who were unwillingly exposed to it. Yeah.

2001-11-27 01:06:43 PM
I hate all you non smokers with your biatchin' and eating while i'm smoking. I pay approx $6.30 a day for my fix and you whingers are getting it for free. A bit of gratitude wouldn't go astray.

2001-11-27 01:09:59 PM
I can't get healthier, no matter how many Marlboro Ultra Lights I smoke.

2001-11-27 01:11:12 PM
*wheeeeeeeezzzzz*
Hi, my name is Erv Zimmerman
*wheeeeeeeezzzzz*
I used to smoke 5 packs of cigarettes a day.
*wheeeeeeeeezzzz*
Since I lost a lung
*wheeeeeeeeezzzz*
I've cut my smoking in half
*wheeeeeeeeeezzzz*

The taxes you pay won't come close to covering your health care expenses caused by tobacco over your lifespan, freeloader. The only thing you can do to help out financially is to kick off early and reduce your fiscal deadweight.
On the plus side, your habit keeps me employed. So smoke up....

2001-11-27 01:12:15 PM
Brisvegas_boy: I'm a non-smoker, but you won't hear me biatching about smokers. It's your right to smoke, at least until the anti-smoking Nazis find success in taking it away. Smoke away.

2001-11-27 01:14:55 PM
I've been smoking 4 packs a day of those because I thought they were safe! DAMN YOU PHILLIP MORRIS!

2001-11-27 01:21:14 PM
Peaches - Don't you read the news?

That should be "I've been smoking 4 packs a day of those because I thought they were safe! DAMN YOU ALTRIA!"

No shiat idiots. They put more tar and nicotine in the light and ultra light cigs because they are afraid that you are trying to quit and they have to keep you hooked!!!

WAKE UP DULLARDS!

2001-11-27 01:22:20 PM
I've always wondered how come none of the enviro-wackos bust on the cigarette companies for putting all that smoke into the air. Furthermore, did you ever notice how much of the litter on the streets is cigarette butts? How come the clean-planet brigade doesn't get after the smokers? Huh?

2001-11-27 01:22:26 PM
Hopefully my welfare bonuses will cover my healthcare.

"It's your right to smoke, at least until the anti-smoking Nazis find success in taking it away. Smoke away."

I, for one, don't like smoke because it makes my clothes stink. Health effects aside, I don't want to come home after a night out reeking of someone else's habit. Find an odorless cigarette and we'll let you back into the restaurants.

Hmm... perhaps a cigarette brand made by Speed Stick would be a better alternative. I know some bars where it would improve matters if it seemed like the patrons bathed...

who'd a thunk that the heavy chemical treatments and extra long fiberglass filters they use to make smokes "light" doesn't make em better for you?! try non-filters, kids. you can taste the natural goodness. like inhaling a naturally occuring forest fire.

2001-11-27 01:26:02 PM
Brisvegas_boy: Guess we're the lone smokers in Farkistan.

2001-11-27 01:26:50 PM
Some "Double-Speak" from the article:

"In addition, smokers can inadvertently cover ventilation holes in the filter that are designed to lower tar levels.

"When they do that, they get a full dose of tar and they don't have any risk reduction," said Dr. David Burns, the study's lead author.
"

WAIT ONE MINUTE! I thought the whole point of the article was that there was NO reduction of risk by smoking "low tar" ciggies?

But ... IF one inadvertantly covers up those little air holes, then they don't get any risk reduction?

I need another cup of coffee.

2001-11-27 01:34:06 PM
I'll stop smoking when they pry my cigaretts from my cold, dead, uh nevermind

2001-11-27 01:34:24 PM
"WAIT ONE MINUTE! I thought the whole point of the article was that there was NO reduction of risk by smoking "low tar" ciggies?"

Yeah, even those who know, don't.

2001-11-27 01:45:14 PM
Labman - Sorry I did read the news but I blame Phillip Morris for all my woes. It's easier that way. For example:

"Ouch I stubbed my toe! DAMN YOU PHILLIP MORRIS!"
"My cat died?!? DAMN YOU PHILLIP MORRIS!"
"Gonnorhea, you say? DAMN YOU PHILLIP MORRIS!"

2001-11-27 01:45:18 PM
It's obvious that everyone who smokes knows it's unhealthy, so I don't see the point in trying to make smokes less bad for you. The only way to completely avoid smoke related illness is to not smoke. Let the people smoke, it's their right to do whatever they want to with their bodies.

2001-11-27 01:45:19 PM
and just this morning i bought Benson Hedges ultra light 100's instead of my usual Marlboro Red or Camels im trying to quit.

2001-11-27 01:48:08 PM
If you're a real smoker, like me, this article made you want to...go have a smoke.

Back in a minute.

2001-11-27 01:58:04 PM
Why smoke cigarettes when you can just go smoke some tar?
Huh?

2001-11-27 02:01:22 PM
I don't think smokers could take that much fun. Besides, the next thing you know, they'd be stealing asphalt trucks to feed their habit.

2001-11-27 02:02:31 PM
And if you're a non-smoker, this article probably inspires you to have a large bowel movement.

I don't care what you are doing to your own bodies, but I'd really rather not smell what you are doing to your body.

"We agree that there is no safe cigarette," company spokesman Brendan McCormick said.

DOH! Hola, McFly, no one esta en casa, pepito?

My doctor told me to take up smoking because I wasn't getting enough tar in my diet.

If you've ever smoked you know it's bad for you. Don't sue cigarette companys cuz you made a bad choice.

2001-11-27 02:38:02 PM
This is news? Researchers have known for years that smokers smoke enough to keep a certain level of nicotine in the blood. Reading the tar & nicotine numbers on the packs yields the data concerning ratio of nicotine to tar (about 1:12). Ergo a smoker ought to (either quit or) purchase a brand with the high nicotine content per cigarette. This way the smoker gets the optimal dosage of nicotine per unit of smoke and per unit of dollar spent per cigarette. More nicotine for the smokers, and less smoke for the rest of us to breath second hand. Ergo filterless Camels are better for you than Marlboro Lights (e.g.). Also, non-filters don't leave non-biodegradable filter butts all over the place. Ban cigarette filters!

2001-11-27 02:43:20 PM
What is a stinch?

2001-11-27 02:44:09 PM
Even if the report is new, the knowledge is not. We've known seemingly forever that people who switch to lights smoke more of them to feed their monkey. Great, more of those 400 (or 600, or is it 800 now) chemicals that they add to cigarettes get into the smoker's lungs.

Why is smoke being deliberately drawn into the smoker's lungs anyway? Who said that that was a good idea? The manufacturer? Hollywood? Your doctor? Who? If you can answer that in the affirmative, let's narrow it down to, oh, say, your lifetime.

Oh, and I am not an anti-smoker. I smoke pipes and the occasional cigar. I can't stand the smell of cigarettes, though. (Other people's stogies often smell nasty too) At least not those which most people here in the states smoke. The exception would be a friend who smoked Djarums. Mmmmm, clovey...

2001-11-27 02:44:24 PM
Smoking, BAD...

2001-11-27 02:44:33 PM
OMG!!
IM SUING WTF

2001-11-27 02:47:32 PM
I'm convinced the only way I can quit smoking is to actually die... so, I'm smoking three Newport's as i write this. At least I'm making an effort. Oh, and in my will I have requested that my family sue all tobacco companies on my behalf. Not because their products were addictive, but rather their lack of being a pleasurable addiction. I mean, the least they can do is put a crack rock in every carton... or, maybe soak the tobacco in some heroin. I'm not asking for a lot here... really....

2001-11-27 02:52:04 PM
400, 600, 800 chemicals per cigarette? At $3.50/pack (average) that's a hell of a deal!!

2001-11-27 02:52:38 PM
Hahahahahaha!
Paradoxically, Klofkorn, you've stumbled onto the truth!

;^)

2001-11-27 02:52:38 PM
and, yes, I smoke. I like to get my money's worth of chemicals.

2001-11-27 02:56:25 PM
ummm...the whole argument about "switching to lights makes you smoke more" is hogwash.

i know. I did it, and i actually smoke a little less now, because the hit isn't nearly as powerful, and ergo, desirable. My brain doesn't conjure up the image of the huge rush I'd get anymore, really.

There IS a limit - I tried taking the next ste to extra lights, but no luck. I sucked the HELL out of those. However, it is NOT automatic than smoking something lighter makes you smoke more of them.

2001-11-27 02:56:49 PM
Fat-free/low-fat food will still make you fat, too. So, let's ban obesity. Being fat is just as bad for you as smoking.

I quit smoking about 2 weeks ago. I quit because I want to be around to play with my kids and grandkids someday. However, I wouldn't dare tell someone else that he or she must quit or that smoking should be banned. And for you dolts that want to outlaw smoking in private clubs; fark-off. You DON'T have to go there if you don't want to. There are plenty of smoke free establishments for you to frequent.

Let's ban Big-Macs, french fries and anyone who is more than 15 lbs. overweight. farking hippos (gee, that works out great!!!)

2001-11-27 03:01:40 PM
Kerouac: I agree, extra lights blow. Felt like I was smoking an unlit cig. I think I'm a habit smoker. I can give them up for days at a time, as long as I don't get bored or depressed.

2001-11-27 03:02:53 PM
Majestic: How did you quit?

2001-11-27 03:02:58 PM
cigarettes don't kill people. people that smoke cigarettes kill people!
