The Angry Hand of God: I look forward to this.  Clerks and Clerks 2 were very funny.  I don't understand all the hate.

I don't think it's hate towards the movies, it's hate towards Kevin Smith.  I can't say I hate him because you can't hate something that is irrelevant.

timujin: MurphyMurphy: /I pretend Chasing Amy never happened

Aw, come on, without Chasing Amy, we'd never have had this

Never seen Chasing Amy but that was fairly amusing.

I liked both Clerks

Soulcatcher: GloomCookie613: Lsherm: I'm looking forward to it, but since he pissed off Harvey Weinstein I'm not sure where he's going to get the money for it.

Red State wasn't very good.

Agreed on Red State. It felt confused to me. Like the film was having an identity crisis over being horror or black comedy. Entire movie had me doing the notsureifserious.jpg face.

I agree that Red State was unfocused, but I think he got spectacular performances out of his actors. Michael Parks and Melissa Leo were on fire, dancing with wild abandon and doing shots of everclear Jesus on top of the crazy train.

I think many people dislike Red State simply because it spends most of its time on bat shiat crazy fundies.

/Anytime fundies are involved it IS a horror story.

No, it was a bad movie.  It built up to an ending he didn't have the money to film, so instead of a shootout we got John Goodman talking about it.  It was the biggest letdown since the end of Gladiator, which should have been two armies fighting, not two idiots in a ring.

I think Kevin is awesome.

MurphyMurphy: "I think I like this" territory.

I know I like Clerks, but "I think I like this" describes my feelings for every Kevin Smith movie.

It's not the sophomoric humor which is holds me back, but his college sophomore gender/racial/sexual/political philosophy bogs down the movies. I wish he would get it out of his system.

I was a big Kevin Smith fan until I read a couple of his books (well.....blog posts wrapped up and published as books), and they kind of made me sad. Smith seems like a really interesting guy, but he's got his friends, he's got his wife, he's got the life he wants, and that's it. He almost seems like he doesn't need to push himself or fight or do anything interesting. He's comfortable. He's got things to lose.

That being said, "Clerks II" was better than it had any right to be.

This.

His podcasts were fun and interesting, but as he increased his pot intake, they became almost unlistenable. The Comic Book Guys show comes off as a cheap cash grab, shows no love of comic books at all. I think I might be done with Kevin Smith.

Half the movie was a shootout. What we didn't get was the Rapture that Smith was actually thinking about putting in as an ending.

I'm sure he'll miss your $10 at the box office.

I'm an on again off again fan. He can be hit or miss, but I think he's more hit with his own material.

chapman: This man is on a mission to make sure that nobody respects him as an artist by the end of his career.  Though I'm not sure which would be worse, Clerks 3 or more episodes of that crap reality show.

I can't even bear the commercials for that terrible show. Who's the target audience, people too lazy to turn the channel?

It's nice to him maturing and growing as a filmmaker and baby hippo.

This isn't Reddit news. I got it first-hand from Kevin Smith's Facebook. Reddit is just a third-rate 4chan wannabe where all the kiddies go to feel like they aren't as big of a frakkup with frakked up viewpoints as they think they are.

You sound old. (and bitter)

You're probably a Reddit kid so anyone over 21 would be "old" to you in which, yes, I would be "old". Not bitter. What is there to be bitter about? The day I become "bitter" over something as insignificant as Reddit and it's failures of humanity is the day I get a sex change operation, become the star of a travelling donkey show in Mexico, and walk only using handstands.

L.D. Ablo: So he's coming out of retirement from making movies to make another movie and then will go back into retirement.  Again.

To be fair, that's not the case and never was.  He wasn't planning on retiring completely, he still wanted to work in TV and smaller Internet projects and live shows.  After his last movie a couple of years ago he said he wanted to do one more then retire.  Problem was the movie he wanted to make was a hockey movie and he had about zero chance of getting a movie made on that subject.  Jason Mews suggested making it a TV miniseries instead, which is now in production.  Smith still wanted to make one more movie though and decided it might as well be Clerks 3, as he's had ideas for it floating around in his head for some time now.

It's easy to be confused if all you read were the breathless headlines a while ago "SMITH RETIRES ZOMG!"  Even some of the guys writing those articles didn't bother to check for the details.  Personally I find his movies "meh" except for Clerks 2 which I really liked.  I listen to his podcasts regularly, when he goes into his "ANYONE CAN DO THIS!" rants I tend to fast forward.  No, Kevin, not everybody can do that and have any hope of success, even if you are good and the tools are more accessible than ever.  Plus I think his views on critique are childish at best.

As for Clerks 3?  Whatever, I might buy a ticket.

It is a tad ironic that Kevin Smith's "Intervention Podcast" with a now smack-free Jason Mewes is conducted while he's high as a goddamn kite.

Smith footed the bill for MULTIPLE rehabs when Mewes was spiraling into a crack and heroin abyss and very well might have saved his life.

Loved his early stuff, but started to lose interest at Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back.

You don't know his little podcast empire. Dude's farkin' funny when he wants to be, but he spends all his time pimping his other shows out these days each show is just an advertisement for the others.

:(

Forgeticus had me howling.

That was awesome, thanks for sharing!!!!

26. The day you identify with a website and start hating on another is the day that you become one of the failures of humanity you refer to. Geeze, who honestly gives this much of a flying fark? I feel sorry for you if this isn't an otherwise successful troll.

I think he got spectacular performances out of his actors because they read a different script.

He WAS spoofing the fundies, and he did that great at the beginning of the movie.  He didn't follow up with a great ending, because he didn't have the money for it.
