Yeah, I don't get this whole "Adele is the fattest person to walk the planet" shiat. She's overweight, sure, but holy Christ, people need to get some perspective, she's not THAT heavy, yet some asshole's always making her sound like she's giving Honey Boo-Boo's mom a run for her money or something. I remember the days when it was the chick from Wilson Philips who was the fat one, at least that made sense... I just don't understand why this Adele chick is the focus of everyone's scorn. Is she a bad singer or something?

Might be a titch of the Skyfall theme thing too,  other that this wasn't even a little close 2.5x the distance to the moon...
And to the size yahoos "big as a football field" sucks as measurement of a three dementional object. Big as a football stadium makes more sense, and in this case, is more accurate dimensionally too.

Some wonderful reporting there:

Earthlings have been especially excited about space bodies as of late, after the planet was hit by a huge meteorite last month.

"Huge"???  We got hit by a pebble that blew up well up in the stratosphere.  Now, if you want huge look at C/2013 A1 (Siding Spring).  At the low end of it's size estimate it still packs a bigger punch than the dinosaur killer and at the high end it could sterilize a planet.  It's also on a possible impact trajectory--fortunately a hit will only cost us Curiosity & Opportunity and probably their attendant communications satellites.

have any of you jaggoffs ever managed to get a bag of antlers "hottie"? Cuz I gotta tell you that the overall effect can kinda be uncomfortable. forget about sharp knees, I'm talking sharp hips!

I'll take average body shape, maybe a little plump any day of the week.

there is nothing wrong with Ms. Adele.

also.. she has a great deal of personal wealth, and I for one would be quite honored to let her buy me stuff.

That comet will probably cost us every Mars asset we have right now, even if it doesn't impact. It's going to brush so close that the coma will envelop the planet, it'll be like orbiting through a shotgun blast.

A direct hit on Mars would not only be something to see, but it would make a nice wake up call to properly fund NASA so they can start the planned asteroid rendezvous missions. I'm really glad those are prioritized over going back to the Moon, since they would basically be a dress rehearsal for a deflection mission.

The tail is expected to be pointing away from Mars with a 0.08% chance of hitting it. It may mess with the orbits of the comm sat's that are relaying information from the rovers but the good money bet would be that nothing of consequence is going to happen outside of some pretty spectacular images as it passes by.

Oooo an Adele is fat joke, how edgy.

Here's another one, Adele is fat, so people made jokes about how she would be all sad and desperate and forever alone and unwanted by men due to her fatness when her first album came out, but she went on to have a happier and more stable life (love and otherwise) than Britney, Christina, or Taylor.

Oh, and she's roughly the same age as Taylor Swift too, so just look at them and compare them maturity wise. Size isn't the only thing Adele has more of.

The key here is that she's not that fat.

Slightly overweight + seemingly good personality + seemingly stable mentality = top tier pussy among 20-30 year old pop "stars".

/ plus there's the whole thing where I'm significantly her senior...

Indeed.

It's like... this isn't a universal case, obviously, but some musical acts have longevity precisely because they evolve and branch out (one example off the top of my head being Billy Joel).

To that effect, I'd like to see Adele experiment and branch out and so on and so forth.

Adele has a great face and a great face. Taylor Swift songs just don't make me cry. I mostly like Adele's attitude to the things people say about her- basically she likes herself.

She isn't claiming to be a picture of health or an athlete or a model- she says she is a singer and her weight doesn't have much to do with it. She even said she would lose weight if it affected her health (but doesn't it not affect your health until it DOES affect your health?).

I estimate if she is 5'8" and 175 her BMI is 26.6. 25 is overweight, 30 is obese... but that is just a guess.

1. Aretha Franklin

Put that one on your thumb. I'll be back to cover the remainder of the digits and possibly a few other appendages.

/Seriously, you actually posted that? You do understand that physical ideals have absolutely nothing to do with music performance talent, right?

Yes, I do. I didn't say it was right, and I didn't say I liked it. Don't forget meat loaf for your list, and the one chubby guy in Sonic Youth, and Blues Traveller and BB King :p

While I like Popper (and I have no clue about this member of SY), I'm trying to limit my list to bonafides.

/So, thanks for 6. Meat Loaf

OscarTamerz: The chubby chasers are out in force on Fark white knighting with bags of King Arthur flour at the ready for any opportune moment.  Might as well because if it's the size of Adele that means it's a planet killer.

Nah, Adele's not heavy enough to be a fetish and/or fringe interest. She retains her attractiveness not only because she has a pretty face but because she carries herself well, dresses nicely, has an unusual (but dignified) hairstyle, etc. Mind you, it might be that I'm just grateful to finally see both a singer who doesn't have her rapidly aging tits and backside hanging out all over the place, and an overweight woman who doesn't feel the need to go about in revealing clothes designed for a much thinner woman. It's all about presentation, I suppose.

Both may be bigger now, but I would hardly have called them fat when they first rise to fame.

And I'm taking that into consideration also. Said star must have hit the scene in a husky configuration.

I was listening to Pavarotti on Youtube the other day and was reminded of a funny story I heard when Princess Diana died. Joplin was chunky. Not fat by any means, but chunky. To be fair, Reba doesn't even fit in my own narrative, since she's just a great singer rather than a powerful voice.

spidermilk: Adele has a great face and a great face.

Well, her weight does suggest that she's not on cocaine or anything. That would make her quite a bit healthier than a good portion of the pop music industry, in spite the BMI. Wouldn't it?

Anyway, she's an excellent singer. More power to her!

Well, shiat. I just double-checked and Joplin was indeed rail-thin. My mental image of her is from Johnny Carson, where she was kind of husky, but I guess that must have been closer to her death.

Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener: Yogimus: Meh, I've watched worse...

It's not so much the watching as it is the hearing...

ambercat: Oooo an Adele is fat joke, how edgy.

You might appreciate TV show host Adam Hills tearing Joan Rivers a new one over her lazy "DURR HURR HURR ADELE IS FAT" jokes. (pops, not-safe-for-work language, the fun begins at 0:47)

I saw that, and I agreed with him on pretty much all points. Adele is a better role model than most pop stars, and not just because of her weight. Obsession with weight and appearance to the degree that many popstars/actresses have seems to cause nothing but trainwrecks of crazy. I'm not saying everyone should just hoverround around Walmart and be 500 lbs, but I think there's a happy medium that's psychologically better.

phamwaa: Just to stray off-topic for a moment: you don't think Reba has a powerful voice? Hmmm.

Powerful, as in fill a room with the full, rich volume of her voice? Power out 120 dB and still be singing rather than shouting? No. She has an amazing smoky, bluesy voice, but I wouldn't call it "powerful" in the same way as Mama Cass, or Janis Joplin, or Aretha Franklin. Or, for that manner, Adele. Hell, I don't even really like Adele's voice, but damn if it isn't powerful.

I'd advise her to see a doctor but damn has she got some pipes and the ability to use them to create art rather than go continuously up and down scales with endless overembelishments Like some "singers". Also, like that runon sentence

Preach it, mammajamma.

Coastalgrl: Apparently, her next album has a more "edgy and raw sound" but I agree, I hope that isn't more of the same. As much as I adore 21,more of the same would be....more of the same.

Indeed.

It's like... this isn't a universal case, obviously, but some musical acts have longevity precisely because they evolve and branch out (one example off the top of my head being Billy Joel).

To that effect, I'd like to see Adele experiment and branch out and so on and so forth.

Id like to see her experiment with some jazz, & blues. Maybe some soul.

I will admit Ive been listing to the Sunshine band in the morning. Great way to start the day.

EXACTLY THAT.

The emphasis on thinness in show business can be... disturbing, to say the least.

Those could be boss directions to go, aye.

And this may be a bit TOO experimental, but maybe going with a bluegrass sound might be interesting.  (I have unusual ideas, so consider the source.)

Cerebral Knievel: there is nothing wrong with Ms. Adele.

<ding> Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems.

It was wrong when Janis drank herself to an early death, and it's as equally wrong for someone as talented as Adele to eat herself to an early death. But as has been pointed out already in this thread, it makes for album content and it sure is tasty corn this year.

Anorexia, bulimia, drug abuse and alcoholism are all health problems too. Adele may not be as healthy as a female athlete, but compared to her peers (pop stars and actresses) I don't think she's unhealthy. I don't think she'll have a lower life expectancy than other singers/stars.

Mikey1969: WTF Indeed: Who knew asteroids could be fat but still have a pretty face?

Yeah, I don't get this whole "Adele is the fattest person to walk the planet" shiat. She's overweight, sure, but holy Christ, people need to get some perspective, she's not THAT heavy, yet some asshole's always making her sound like she's giving Honey Boo-Boo's mom a run for her money or something. I remember the days when it was the chick from Wilson Philips who was the fat one, at least that made sense... I just don't understand why this Adele chick is the focus of everyone's scorn. Is she a bad singer or something?

She's quite popular, so she could be a very positive role model instead of the very negative role model that she currently is.
Her fans see her and go "being fat's OK!" which is a very very horrible thing to think.

Ironically, if she ever loses the weight, the amount of hate heaped on her from bitter fatties ("she's a traitor to her size!") will eclipse whatever you see here. So she's kind of screwed either way.

Being "fat" is NOT a "negative" type of role model. Being OBESE is an issue. People need to get off of this whole "Looking like a scarecrow is healthy" jag. Sure, we have an obesity problem in the US, what people keep ignoring is this unhealthy obsession with scrawniness also. Too skinny is as unhealthy and dangerous as too fat, if not more so.

From the pictures I've seen, this woman's state of "fat" is not something that wee need to start beating the drums of hate over.
