okay, what's the point of this article?  To reinforce my opinions about Seinfeld or to make me more interested in the HBO show Girls? If the former, then A+.  If the latter, nah thanks.

What if people talked about this article like the do about mentally handicapped people?

pueblonative: the HBO show Girls

oh, I thought TFA was talking about actual girls.  I guess I'm a little confused now since I can assume there's evidently articles giving shiatty reasons for not liking this HBO show Girls?

/ hey, at least HBO doesn't edit it.. you ever watch the USA edited version of Showgirls?  Not a single boob the whole time.

2013-03-09 06:42:15 PM
I like the show Girls, a lot.  I also like Seinfeld.

2013-03-09 06:42:27 PM
The fans of the show are trying their damnest to justify the show.

2013-03-09 06:44:58 PM
My exposure to this show is one friend who likes it and then an almost daily barrage of articles like this one that makes me wonder why it "needs" such staunch defenders like in the article. If people don't like it why the hell does anyone care?

Never watched it, and have no real plans too. Just enjoy your show and ignore the opinions you don't like.

2013-03-09 06:52:02 PM
I've never seen either series.

I now feel no need have to see Seinfeld ever, and have found out there's a series called Girls. Which I also feel no need to ever watch.

+1 article. Informative.

2013-03-09 06:58:04 PM
TV being full of unlikeable characters is the main reason I don't watch much TV anymore. So...shrug. Not sure what my point was.

Is this another Firefly or MLP thread?

The author of this article must be AWESOME to hang out with.

So how many years has Seinfeld been over?
Is the next College Humor article going to compare and contrast ' I Love Lucy' and 'The Big Bang Theory'?

OtherLittleGuy: Is this another Firefly or MLP thread?

Firefly died because most people didn't know it existed till after it was canceled. Fox refused to support the show; ultimately undermining the show. As a result it died. The fans(most of whom saw the show after it was dead) were upset about missing out on it.

MLP has a sizable fanbase that ensures it continues. They have fun with it but they don't seem to have the need to defend the show.

No one can say that Girls is not getting enough support from the network. Everyone knows the show is out there. It's not the next Seinfeld. It's in no way comparable to Seinfeld.

2013-03-09 07:20:52 PM
I think the main problem is that the show sucks. If you lasted more than 10 mins watching it your a better person than me

Or just a moron

2013-03-09 07:23:32 PM
Yeah? Well I slept with your wife.

2013-03-09 07:24:08 PM
The author's got a point. The only real difference between the two shows is that Seinfeld is funny.

Oh, and Jerry didn't get naked every episode. I'd want to see Jerry naked about as much as I want to see Lena Dunham. Which is is not at all.

Seriously, she's frackin gross.

I hope so!

Seinfeld never tried to sell itself as the "voice of a generation" deconstruction of modern young people that Girls does. It just said "Hey, does this shiat happen to you too? It's pretty funny." Pretense invites pretense.

2013-03-09 07:56:00 PM
The comments from TFA claim this a satirical post, i.e. College Humor.

Maybe this point of view/complaint about the show is now cliché and...that's the joke?

2013-03-09 08:03:42 PM
Seinfeld is shiat.  No realism at all.  And shiatty graphics.

They both suck.   There I said it.

2013-03-09 08:32:08 PM
It's almost as if Seinfeld was a straight comedy with characters explicitly meant to be unlikeable cartoons, whereas Girls is a comedy-drama hybrid with characters that are supposed to be real, three-dimensional human beings but aren't.

2013-03-09 08:34:08 PM
Girls, much like "Sex in the City" and "Nurse Jackie" aren't comedies.  Seinfeld's characters were brash and on the surface, unlikeable, but at least we could relate to the scenarios they presented.  Plus, almost every episode was funny.  "Girls" isn't funny at all, and the fat chick is annoyingly p.c. just so she can suck up to everyone in Hollywood.

Mrbogey: The fans of the show are trying their damnest to justify the show.

Why do they need to justify it beyond enjoying it? I like the show, though it's a little strange if you're looking for pure comedy. I think that the biggest problems a lot of people have with it are: a. you're not supposed to like the characters (except for Shoshanna), just enjoy watching them; and b. straight males sometimes have trouble watching shows about women (porn doesn't count) for some reason which I'm sure there's a wealth of psychological and sociological research on.

The annoyingly PC stuff is part of the comedy. Sorry you didn't laugh.

You got me. I hate the show because I'm a straight male. You exposed the truth.

2013-03-09 08:53:24 PM
This is 100% true. Girls farking rules and is also a show about nothing.

2013-03-09 09:16:55 PM
O_o

Does the author of that terrible article realize that most people don't have HBO and don't know what the f♥ck they're talking about?

Besides, everyone knows that the only show on HBO worth giving a shiat about is Game of Thrones.

I never heard of "Girls" (the show) until just this moment. Today. Because of this thread.

So it's not that popular. Or well-known. Or accessible. Seinfeld was on network, for free.

So, this "Girls" thing is a teevee show or something?

The show is horrible, but Allison Williams is gorgeous. I'd watch just about anything if she's in it. I think the fact I manage to watch Girls proves that point, good god that show is awful.

/Did I mention that Allison is mind-blowingly attractive?
//And that the show is bad?

And this is an accurate enough example of my only exposure to the show the last month - neatly summed up.

And we are done here. Lena Dunham has talent, but perhaps she might be better served to apprentice anonomously in a few writer's rooms and hone her craft for a few years before everyone annoints her the freaking savior.

2013-03-09 11:14:28 PM
Reading that article was like sitting next to a woman who is butthurt because she didn't get to watch Girls and instead had to watch Seinfeld because that's what everybody else in the room wanted to watch.
She'll just continue to biatch and talk shiat until she gets her way either by everyone leaving or just giving up and handing her the remote.
I need a beer, I'm going to the bar, be back later.

Unless you're not white and on tumblr.  Then Girls is yet another symbol of our inherently racist society pretending that white is "normal" and completely ignoring People of Color.

2013-03-10 12:36:19 AM
never heard of a show called girls. if there isn't anything on beside a re run of seinfeld, which ended 15 years ago, i will watch. over the years i have watched them in syndication. many times over.

it isn't the best show ever but i wouldn't watch a show called girls, let alone 30 rock or community. can't say i have watched more than 10 minutes of those two shows combined.

i am to assume that this girls show is only white girls? so a show about only white people is racist tyler perry?

Hanna dated a black republican in one episode.

As a straight guy, I actually enjoy Girls because it shows young women doings the horrible, reckless, selfish shiat that women do, but without glamorizing it in a c'est la vie/laugh about it over coffee kind of way.

A lot of other shows have this message that being dishonourable to get what you want is an intrinsic part of being a woman, and that all that really matters is that you do it with enough poise that you can live with yourself later.

It's nice to see the effects of "I'm a woman, I'm not SUPPOSED to know what I want" coming home to roost for once.

2013-03-10 03:09:45 AM
Sigh...  There are shows that air on Monday's at 10PM about taxidermy that get equal, or better ratings than "Girls."

Girls gets about 750,000-850,000 viewers each episode, which is still low, even for cable.  Girls will also be totally forgotten after it gets cancelled.  It will never become popular with the masses like "Sex in the City," for a great many reasons, but the primary one is the farking ugly-ass fat-too on Lena Dunham's right arm, combined with her "short-shorts"/dresses that make her look like an overstuffed tubby in pjs.

Ah, that explains it.  Do you also hate other people of questionable talent and attractiveness who attained success in film, like George Lucas and Kevin Smith, or do you just reserve your vitriol for women?

I don't get all the hatred for girls. I probably wouldn't watch it if my girlfriend didn't, but I do like it. Yea, maybe you don't like it and can't relate to anything on the show, cool, but that doesn't mean that it's the worst thing ever. Also, "I think Lena Dunham's ugly, and she's fat, too!" is not a legitimate complaint about the show, damn.
